Mark 10:35-39

Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him, saying, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask.” (Mark 10:35)
Holy Spirit, set us free of self-serving prayer; help us pray according to your mind.

And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?” (Mark 10:36)
Thank you, Jesus, for listening to us.

They said to him, “Grant us that we may sit, one on your right hand and the other on your left, in your glory.” (Mark 10:37)
Father, thank you for the true humility of Jesus; help us follow him in his passion and on the way to the cross this coming week.

But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” They said to him, “We are able.” (Mark 10:38-39)
Jesus, we are often pretty clueless in the things we ask of you; thank you for saying, “No,” to us when it is for our best welfare.

A word received: Pray for my people; pray that the captives will be set free.
