My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning? (Psalm 22:1)
Father, I have sinned, Jesus did not sin; thank you for his willingness to experience the horror of separation from you that sin produces.
O my God, I cry in the daytime, but you do not hear; and in the night season, and am not silent. (Psalm 22:2)
Jesus, please help us, as we look at the devastation that sin has caused in the Episcopal Church, cry out to your father day and night for mercy and relief.
But you are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel. (Psalm 22:3)
Father, you have chosen to dwell in the midst of our praise of you; help us by your Holy Spirit to fill our lives with your praise.
Our fathers trusted in you; they trusted, and you delivered them. (Psalm 22:4)
That was true then, Father, but it is not true now; show us where we went astray so that we may repent.
They cried to you, and were delivered; they trusted in you, and were not ashamed. (Psalm 22:5)
LORD, we cry out to you, please deliver us from the bondage of those leaders and teachers of the Episcopal Church who have chose sin and death; we trust that you will deliver us from their shame.
But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised by the people. (Psalm 22:6)
Father, it doesn’t matter what others think of us, it only matters what you think of us. We claim the blood of Jesus for our covering; when you look at us we trust that you will see his love and sacrifice for us.
All those who see me ridicule me; they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, “He trusted in the LORD, let him rescue him; let him deliver him, since he delights in him!” (Psalm 22:7-8)
Father, you did deliver Jesus from the power of the grave by raising him from the dead by your Holy Spirit; we trust that all of us who believe in him and confess his sacrifice and resurrection will be raised from the dead at that latter day. Thank you.
But you, O LORD, do not be far from me; o my strength, hasten to help me! (Psalm 22:19)
Holy Spirit, you are our strength and we look to you to guide us in this time of darkness in the church.
Deliver me from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog. Save me from the lion’s mouth and from the horns of the wild oxen! You have answered me. (Psalm 22:20-21)
Father, I know that my redeemer lives and that you will answer me; you hear my cries and see my tears and have not abandoned me. Thank you.
