For our opponents

A prayer by Rev. Canon Frank Colquhoun.

Heavenly Father,

We bring to you in prayer David Booth Beers and his law firm, Presiding Bishop Schori and her staff, the Executive Council, and the House of Bishops.  In simple trust we commit them into your hands.  We thank you that you love them more than we do and understand their every need.  Do for them, O Lord, what we cannot do, and what you see is most for their good; for Jesus’ sake.  Amen.

San Joaquin

Psalm 94:19 (New International Version)

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul

Dear Heavenly Father,
Your people of the diocese of San Joaquin have been buffeted about by heresies and ecclesiastical conflict.  Their standing committee has been dismissed and their bishop deposed in violation of canon law.  Help them to keep their eyes on Jesus.  He is the head of the body, the church.  In Christ all Your fullness lives in bodily form.  Guard them from all assaults of the enemy and grant them the grace of forgiveness.   May they find peace within the storm.  Amen.

Mark 11:15-18

March 17, 2008

So they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. And he would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple. (Mark 11:15-16)
Jesus, please come into every parish in this diocese and drive from them everything that is an offense to you. Come into our hearts and souls and cleanse them of every impurity as well.

Then he taught, saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’” (Mark 11:17)
Holy Spirit, restore to the common life of the Episcopal Church a life of prayer to the Father.

And the scribes and chief priests heard it and sought how they might destroy him; for they feared him, because all the people were astonished at his teaching. (Mark 11:18)
Even now, Jesus, the leaders and teachers of the Episcopal Church seek how they might destroy your faithful witnesses.

Father, have mercy on us, for the Episcopal Church has gone off the rails; draw us back to you and your ways. Thank you.
