Episcopal Women’s Caucus

March 22, 2008

What I see brings grief to my soul because of all the women of my city.  Those who were my enemies without cause hunted me like a bird.  Lamentations 3:51-52

The Episcopal Women’s Caucus has announced plans to target at least eleven dioceses for uninvited visitations.  The dioceses allegedly hostile to the ministry of women are:  Albany, Central Florida, Dallas, Fort Worth, Pittsburgh, Quincy (Illinois), the Rio Grande (New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle), San Joaquin (California), South Carolina, Southwest Florida and Springfield (Illinois).   The plan is named the Angel Project.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We lift up our hearts and our hands to You.  Look down and behold us.  Do not close Your ears to our cries.

You know the needs of the Episcopal Women’s Caucus and of Your Church far better than we.  Commission Your holy angels to guard and protect and to heal us.  Amen.

Lamentations 3:37-58

He said his family was very religious. He said he had stopped drugging and drinking two nights ago. I told him his mother was probably with Jesus and asked him if he wanted to end up with his mother and Jesus. He said, “Yes.” He confessed his sins to Jesus and accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Deacon Alan anointed him with oil.

Romans 8:1-11

March 22, 2008

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:1)
Lord, the Episcopal Church has embraced the flesh and has not listened to your Spirit; have mercy on us and help us be in you so that we may escape the just condemnation that is coming.

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:2)
Father, there are only two choices: the law of your Spirit in Christ Jesus or the law of sin and death; help us throughout this diocese to choose the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.

For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: he condemned sin in the flesh, (Romans 8:3)
Father, you loved us so much that you gave your only begotten son so that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. (From John 3:16)

that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:4)
Father, you did not send your son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. Have mercy on us in the Episcopal Church and help us receive the salvation he offers. (From John 3:17)

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. (Romans 8:5)
Holy Spirit, please help all of us in the Episcopal Church to believe in Jesus so that we will not be condemned. (From John 3:18)

For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (Romans 8:6)
Father, you have sent the light of the gospel into the world, but we have loved darkness rather than light, and our deeds are evil; have mercy on us. (From John 3:19)

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. (Romans 8:7)
Jesus, everyone who practices evil hates your light and does not come to your light in repentance, lest their deeds should be exposed. Have mercy on the leaders and teachers of the Episcopal Church: help them walk in the light of your word. (From John 3:16)

So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. (Romans 8:8)
Holy Spirit, please help us do the truth of Scripture so that we may come to the light and our deeds will be clearly seen to be done in God. (From John 3:21)

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his. (Romans 8:9)
LORD, the leaders of the Episcopal Church are choosing the law of the flesh rather than the law of the Spirit as they seek to stop the ministry of those who are faithful to the gospel; have mercy on us.

And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. (Romans 8:10)
The LORD is our light and our salvation; whom shall we fear? (From Psalm 27:1a)

But if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. (Romans 8:11)
The LORD is the strength of our lives; of whom shall we be afraid? (From Psalm 27:1b)

Jesus, thank you for giving me the Spirit of adoption whereby I may cry out, “Abba, Father!” (From Romans 8:15)

A word received: Grieve for my people; they are being led astray. Pray for faithful shepherds to be raised up for them.
