Bishops-elect

March 31, 2008

Canon Eugene Sutton was elected bishop of Maryland, and Canon Paul Lambert was elected bishop suffragan of Dallas.

Father,

We pray that Eugene and Paul will be made holy through Your Spirit, will be obedient to the gospel, and will have their sins covered by the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ, so that grace and peace may be multiplied to Maryland and Dallas.  Amen.

1 Peter 1:2

The Anglican Communion

March 31, 2008

O God, be with Your people in the Anglican Communion as they walk through a  deluge of wordly cravings, envies, and boasts.  May their shepherds hear You speak, act in faith, and lead them on dry land in the midst of the sea.  Amen.

Exodus 14:29, 1 John 2:16

Speaking out

March 31, 2008

Several brave souls have challenged the validity of the depositions of Bishops Cox and Schofield.

Dear Jesus,

Come to Bishop Howe, Bishop Lawrence, the Standing Committee of South Carolina, Father Eaton, Mr. Sutton, and Ms. Busch.  Do not leave them orphaned.  Love them and bless them, we pray.  Amen.

John 14:18-21

John 14:15-18

March 31, 2008

“If you love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)
Holy Spirit, please help our love for Jesus overflow into keeping his commandments.

“And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another helper, that he may abide with you forever–” (John 14:16)
Father, we join with Jesus in asking for the help of the Holy Spirit today.

“the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; but you know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” (John 14:17)
Jesus, please set the Episcopal Church free from looking to the world for what it should do so that we may receive your Holy Spirit of truth.

“I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” (John 14:18)
Father, please help all of us in the Episcopal Church receive your Spirit of Adoption by whom we may cry out to you, “Abba, Dad.” (From Romans 8:15)
