And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” (Acts 19:1-2)
Lord Jesus, please send your apostolic witnesses through all the regions of this diocese.
Father, so many have hardly heard that there is a Holy Spirit, let alone encountered him.
Holy Spirit, move the people of this diocese beyond repentance to the new life you offer them. Raise up leaders and teachers who will lead their flocks into the baptism you offer.
And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?” So they said, “Into John’s baptism.”(Acts 19:3)
Jesus, so many people have heard only of repentance and not heard about the power and new life your Holy Spirit brings. Anoint the preaching and teaching in this diocese so that all the people enter into the life of your Spirit.
Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”(Acts 19:4)
Holy Spirit, please bring people throughout this diocese to a personal knowledge of Jesus so that they may believe he is the Christ, the Messiah.
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.(Acts 19:5-6)
Father, we pray for all your people in this diocese that they may receive the ministry and gifts of your Holy Spirit.
Now the men were about twelve in all.(Acts 19:7)
Jesus, please help us to see that even small congregations can be seedbeds of the gospel and of your kingdom.
And he went into the synagogue and spoke boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading concerning the things of the kingdom of God.(Acts 19:8 )
Holy Spirit, send forth your witnesses to boldly proclaim the gospel to every synagogue and mosque in this diocese — send them forth to all the children of Israel and Ishmael — to all the children of promise.
A word received: Fear not, for I AM with you. Go forward without fear.
