A call to fast for the defeat of the LRA

January 3, 2009

Joseph Kony, the leader of the evil Lord’s Resistance Army, is thought to be hiding in the jungle between the Garamba National Forest and North of Maridi town in South Sudan. Also gone underground are his deputies, Okot Odhiambo and Dominic Ongwen. The most current report, filed in Kampala, Uganda, can be found at the Daily Monitor. Military forces from Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Southern Sudan are conducting a joint effort to eliminate the LRA.
Anglican bishop Justin Badi in Maridi, Sudan, has communicated with intercessors, asking for prayers of protection. The LRA is now just 3 miles away, mutilating and killing as they move. “It is a very miserable situation here in Maridi.” His most recent communication can be found at the bottom of this post. UK intercessor Jane Corbett has called for fasting on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Sudan. I ask American intercessors to join her.

Lord, who are Joseph Kony, Okot Odhiambo, and Dominic Ongwen that they should bring reproach on Your Holy Name? Who are they to profane the name which is above every name?
You have highly exalted Your Son Christ Jesus, and at His name every knee shall bow in heaven, in earth, and under the earth. Every demonic spirit operating in the LRA throughout Garamba National Forest, Maridi, and the land between, must yield to the Holy Name of Jesus.
You are Jehovah-Sabaoth, the Lord of Hosts. Commission the heavenly hosts to Maridi and Garamba National Forest to defend Your people. Just as You raised up David to slay the Philistine Goliath, send Your Holy Spirit upon Your warriors to bring the downfall of Kony, Odhiambo, Ongwen, and the Lord’s Resistance Army. Amen.

UPDATE:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Your Holy Scripture teaches us that nothing is secret that shall not be made manifest. We humbly beseech You to reveal the hiding places of Kony, Odhiambo, and Ongwen. Bring the knowledge of these hiding places to Your warriors. Uncover these fugitives that justice may be done.
We cry out for mercy for the inhabitants of Maridi, especially Bishop Justin, Mama Joyce, and their flock. Deliver them from destruction. Deliver them from violence. Amen.

Primates

January 3, 2009

O God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
Prepare the hearts of the primates of the Anglican Communion for the establishment of Your kingdom in the Anglican Communion. Set up a ladder beside each one, with the top reaching to heaven, and commission Your angels to ascend and descend upon it. Amen.
Genesis 28:12

Adoration

January 3, 2009

Dear Heavenly Father,
After Jacob received Abraham’s blessing, he departed, came to a certain place, and stopped to sleep. In his sleep, You stood beside him and blessed him. You gave him a place to call home.
We have received Jesus’s blessing and are on a journey to a heavenly home. In this moment we come to a certain place, before Your throne in prayer. Just as Jacob rested his head on a rock, may we rest our minds in Jesus. He is our Rock.
Stand beside us, Lord. Your presence is our blessing. Your presence is our home. Stand beside us, we pray. Stand. Amen.
Genesis 27:27–28:19

John 10:7-14

January 3, 2009

Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.” (John 10:7)
Lord, all other “doors” are marked, “No Exit”. Grant to your people the wisdom to know the true from the false.

“All who ever came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.”(John 10:8 )
Holy Spirit, please help us in our generation tune out the thieves and robbers among us.

“I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.”(John 10:9)
Jesus, you are the good shepherd; please help us daily stay in the pasture you have marked out for us.

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”(John 10:10)
Jesus, please help us throughout this diocese enter into the abundant life of your Holy Spirit.

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.”(John 10:11)
Jesus, thank you for laying your life down for me; please shepherd me day by day.

“But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them.”(John 10:12)
Father, please intervene in the life of the Episcopal Church: the wolves are daily scattering the flock and the hirelings do nothing to protect the sheep.

“The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep.”(John 10:13)
Holy Spirit, please guide Bishop Bill, the Standing Committee, the Commission on Ministry, and the vestries of this diocese so that they will choose only true shepherds as deacons and priests to lead the flock.

“I am the good shepherd; and I know my sheep, and am known by my own.”(John 10:14)
Jesus, please help us know you better.

A word received: Don’t be afraid. I AM in the midst of you and I will hold you up.

Terrible news continues to come from our friends. Keep praying. Jane Corbett

[Note from Jean Bissell: LRA stands for "Lord's Resistance Army" a murderous group that has caused great devastation in Uganda for many years and is now marching and murdering in Sudan toward Maridi. It is anything but the Lord's!]
