Deliver us from rebellion

June 14, 2009

Revelation 12:11 (New International Version)
They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

O Lord, we cry out for the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion. We confess our rebellion, willfulness, stubborness, and disobedience. We have resisted Your authority over our spirits, our souls, and our bodies. Your Son Jesus Christ has atoned for these sins by His blood. We claim the blood of Jesus Christ against the spirits of rebellion, willfulness, stubborness, disobedience, and resistance to Your authority, and we testify to the vastness of His power, which surpasses the power of these enemies of our church. Deliver us, we pray.

2 Corinthians 13:11-14

June 13, 2009

Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. (2 Corinthians 13:11)
Holy Spirit, please help us grow in maturity. Help us daily receive your comfort; help us grow into the mind of Christ and know his love and peace.

Greet one another with a holy kiss. (2 Corinthians 13:12)
Jesus, help us truly be at peace with one another in this diocese and in our parishes.

All the saints send their greetings. (2 Corinthians 13:13)
Thank you for surrounding us with this great cloud of witnesses: the saints alive today and those who have gone on before.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. (2 Corinthians 13:14)
Father, help us abide in your love.

Jesus, help us abide in your grace.

Holy Spirit, help us abide in your fellowship.

      Thank you.

A word received: Wait on me — look to me for help in the storm.

You laugh

June 13, 2009

O God in heaven,
Look at all the corporation executives, demagogues, and governmental delegates that deny You and defy the Messiah. They try to shut Jesus out of the public square, and they devise mean plots against the Christians.
You laugh at them in derision.
Your sons and daughters are not slaves. They are Your heirs, and joint-heirs with Christ Jesus. You bless their obedience.
We ask You, Lord, for our inheritance. We ask You to bless those who hearken to Your voice–overtake them with blessings. Bless their businesses. Bless their families. Bless their churches. Bless them with long life, we pray. Amen.
Psalm 2 MSG, Romans 8:15-17, Deuteronomy 28:1-2

Deliver us from the fear of authority

June 13, 2009

James 4:7 (New Living Translation)
So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

O Father, we submit to Your authority. We confess our rebellion, our fear of submission, our lying, and our deceit. We claim the name of Jesus against the fear of authority and ask that Your kingdom come to our hearts as it is in heaven. Amen.

Christian entrepreneurs

June 12, 2009

Deuteronomy 8:18 (New International Version)
But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.

O Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
You are a covenant God, a steadfast and merciful God, and we honor You. We lift up Christian entrepreneurs and stock traders in prayer, especially __________. May they, and their children, and their children’s children, listen to Your word and be careful to obey. May they fear You as long as they live and keep all Your decrees and commands. Grant them long life and increase them mightily. Amen.
Deuteronomy 6:2-3

Psalm 69:13-16

June 12, 2009

But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD, in the acceptable time; (Psalm 69:13a)
LORD, let this be the acceptable time — thank you for hearing our prayer.

O God, in the multitude of your mercy, hear me in the truth of your salvation. (Psalm 69:13b)
Father, thank you for the multitude of your mercy toward us.

Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink; (Psalm 69:14a)
Holy Spirit, guide our steps out of the mire in our culture and in the Episcopal Church.

Let me be delivered from those who hate me, and out of the deep waters. (Psalm 69:14b)
Jesus, please guide this diocese out of the hands of those who hate your ways — guide us out of the deep waters.

Let not the floodwater overflow me, nor let the deep swallow me up; (Psalm 69:15a)
Lord, we are sending our deputies to the General Convention — to a hostile environment; do not let the flood waters overwhelm them.

And let not the pit shut its mouth on me. (Psalm 69:15b)
Hear me, O LORD, for your lovingkindness is good; turn to me according to the multitude of your tender mercies. (Psalm 69:16)

A word received: Come to me — let me be your guide and strength. Come to me for light in the darkness. Come to me.

All things work together for good to them that love God

June 12, 2009

It is a mercy. There has been much shaking going on within the church for years and much shaking within the economy for months. God is purifying His bride in America. He is shaking us loose from that which is not of Him, from false pride and man-made security. He is trying to protect us. He desires us to lean on Him and not on our own understanding. He is anxious to show Himself strong on our behalf. It is a mercy.

Thank You, Lord, for Your mercies.

Ezekiel 37:6-7 (King James Version)
And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.

Romans 5:3-5 (New Living Translation)
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

For government officials

June 11, 2009

Lord God Almighty,
You have made this nation for Your glory, to serve You in freedom and in peace. You have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives. Give the government officials and employees—city, county, state, and federal—a zeal for justice and the courage to contend against evil. Guard them from harm.
May they give themselves to the service of others. We specifically request that they be intentional in creating environments conducive to business prosperity. Help them in fighting crime and in carrying out those regulations that are necessary to the common good. Guard them from fostering unnecessary regulations. May all that they do be for the glory of Your name. Amen.

Psalms 61, 62; Deuteronomy 31-32; Luke 19

June 11, 2009

Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to you, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. (Psalm 61:1-2)

Truly my soul silently waits for God; from him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved. (Psalm 62:1-2)

In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. (Psalm 62:7)
Father, lead us to Jesus. He is the rock I want to stand on.

A word received: I want your attention on me.

Then Moses spoke in the hearing of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song until they were ended: (Deuteronomy 31:30)
LORD, please help us to hear and receive what your servants are saying to us.

“Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.” (Deuteronomy 32:1)
LORD, please give your servants your word to speak to me.

“Let my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as the dew, as raindrops on the tender herb, and as showers on the grass.” (Deuteronomy 32:2)
Holy Spirit, let your words spoken by the mouth of your prophets refresh me.

“For I proclaim the name of the LORD: ascribe greatness to our God.” (Deuteronomy 32:3)
Jesus, please help me proclaim your name and ascribe greatness to you.

“He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all his ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is he.” (Deuteronomy 32:4)
Jesus, you are our rock and all that you do is perfect. All your ways are justice, truth, and righteousness.

“They have corrupted themselves; they are not his children, because of their blemish: a perverse and crooked generation.” (Deuteronomy 32:5)
Father, so many have wandered away from you and have become corrupted by the world.

“Do you thus deal with the LORD, O foolish and unwise people? Is he not your father, who bought you? Has he not made you and established you?” (Deuteronomy 32:6)
Father, we are your children; establish us in your ways and set us free from folly. Thank you.

A word received: Wait on me; look to me for guidance. I AM the Good Shepherd. I want my people to turn to me for leadership and guidance. Pray for my people to return to me and my ways.

Then, as he was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, (Luke 19:37)
Holy Spirit, thank you for all the praise and worship at the Diocesan Convention. Thank you for the multitude of your disciples who raised their voices in praise of Jesus mighty works.

saying: “‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the LORD!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” (Luke 19:38 )
Jesus, we bless you and thank you for coming to reveal your father’s love to us.

And some of the Pharisees called to him from the crowd, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” (Luke 19:39)
Father, thank you that the Diocesan Convention did not heed those who want to go back to the old ways of the diocese.

But he answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.” (Luke 19:40)
Holy Spirit, help us repent of being silent about Jesus and all he has done for us in the face of political correctness and opposition.

Now as he drew near, he saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.” (Luke 19:41-44)
Jesus, we weep for the Episcopal Church. We pray for those faithful deputies to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church that you will guide and comfort them.

Then he went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it, saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house is a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’” (Luke 19:45-46)
Jesus, enter into the life of the Episcopal Church and into the General Convention and drive out from them all that does not belong there. Thank you.

Your presence is provision

June 11, 2009

O Great I AM,
We praise Your holy name. How gracious You are to provide us with an abiding place, a resting place in You. We praise You for the joy of fellowship.
Your presence is love, a love that never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance–a living love. Your presence overcomes, and we praise You. Your presence is joy, and we praise You for the hope that endures.
You are Jehovah-jireh, and Your presence is provision. Amen.
1 Corinthians 13:7

Our natural resources

June 10, 2009

Dear Heavenly Father,
You have blessed us in so many ways—productive soil for agriculture, ready access to navigation routes, and a topography conducive to building.
We thank You for our rivers. We pray that they will be rivers of life—spiritual life, natural wildlife, and commercial life. Guard the rivers from pollution.
We thank You for the wetlands, which store and slowly release water over a long period of time, recharge our aquifers, filter our pollutants, create habitats for plant and animal life, and help bring the atmosphere into equilibrium. Bless these habitats. May they continue to cleanse the land and the air and be a source of water for the farmers and townspeople.
May there be an abundance of wildlife, including deer, turkey, and waterfowl, and an abundance of fish in the rivers, lakes, and seas. Raise up godly fishermen and hunters.
We thank You for the timber that grows along the rivers, on the hills, and over the plains. Bless the hardwood trees and pines; guard them from pestilence and destruction by fire and wind. May the Christians in the timber industry have economic success.
We thank You for the rich alluvial soil deposited in the floodplains. Grant the landowners wisdom to protect the soil from erosion and mineral depletion. Grant the farmers good health. Guard their crops from pests, weeds, and unseasonable weather. We pray Your gracious providence for bountiful harvests for those farmers who honor You.
May we, who receive so much from Your hand, always give You thanks for these blessings, especially the gift of Your Son Jesus, the author of eternal life. Amen.

The songs of Moses and the angels

June 10, 2009

For the LORD’s portion is his people, Jacob his allotted inheritance.
You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.
In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste.
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive glory.
He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye,
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power.
like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions.
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive strength.
The LORD alone led him; no foreign god was with him.
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive honor.
He made him ride on the heights of the land and fed him with the fruit of the fields.
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive riches.
He nourished him with honey from the rock, and with oil from the flinty crag,
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive wisdom.
with curds and milk from herd and flock and with fattened lambs and goats, with choice rams of Bashan and the finest kernels of wheat. You drank the foaming blood of the grape.
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive blessings.

Deuteronomy 32:9-14, Revelation 4:11, 5:12

Deliver us from bitterness

June 10, 2009

Matthew 6:14-15 (New International Version)

For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Dear Heavenly Father,

The Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion are in conflict.  We confess our bitterness, resentment, hatred, unforgiveness, violence, temper, anger, and retaliation.

We bless our enemies and ask You to forgive us our sins.  In the name and through the blood of Your blessed Son, the Prince of Peace, we speak against these spirits.  Deliver us from the spirits of bitterness, resentment, hatred, unforgiveness, violence, temper, anger, and retaliation, we pray.  Amen.

For godly business people

June 9, 2009

Dear Lord,
We lift up the godly business people, especially __________. We pray that whatever work they do, they will do it all to the glory of God. You have entrusted them with talents and with money. Deliver them from the service of self alone. May they serve the common good in their workplaces and throughout the community, working to establish Your kingdom in _________. May You be pleased by their faithfulness in what You have entrusted to them and prosper them greatly. Amen.
Matthew 25:14-30

For godly business people

June 8, 2009

O Lord,
We magnify You and exalt Your name. May the godly entrepreneurs and stock traders bless You at all times. May Your praise be continually in their mouths.
When the poor man cries, You hear him and save him out of all his troubles. Send Your holy angels to encamp around business men and women who fear You, especially ________. Deliver them from economic lack.
Your word is sweet as honey. Keep them close to Your word so that they may know Your goodness and place their trust in You. May they lean on You and not on the world’s wisdom. There is no want for them that fear You. Amen.
Psalm 34
