Pray for a Spirit of Brokenness and Repentance

Righteous God, please send overwhelming conviction of sin, deep brokenness and genuine repentance among Your people. Grant to us the true godly sorrow that leads to repentance. Fill us with holy fear and reverence for Your name. Purify the Bride of Christ for His Glorious Second Coming. Please prepare and cleanse us for the marriage supper of the Lamb of God.
(Psalm 51:17; Proverbs 28:13; 2 Corinthians 7:1, 10;)

Psalm 132:9a (King James Version)
Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness.

Genesis 15:6 (King James Version)
And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

Deuteronomy 6:25 (King James Version)
And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.

Psalm 5:7-9 (King James Version)
But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple. Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face. For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.

Psalm 17:15 (King James Version)
As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

O Lord, may Your priests in Anaheim believe in You, observe all Your commandments, fear and worship You, seek Your guidance, and behold Your face. Amen.

Psalm 132:1-10

LORD, remember David and all his afflictions; (Psalm 132:1)
LORD, remember all your faithful servants and their afflictions.

How he swore to the LORD, and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob: (Psalm 132:2)
Holy Spirit, help us keep all our vows to God. Give your people steadiness in their marriage vows. Help your bishops, priests and deacons keep their ordination vows.

“Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house, or go up to the comfort of my bed; I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the LORD, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.” (Psalm 132:3-5)
Father, please help us make your work and your will the priorities of our lives.

Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of the woods. (Psalm 132:6)
Jesus, please help us seek you out day by day.

Let us go into his tabernacle; let us worship at his footstool. (Psalm 132:7)
Lord Jesus, please give me a heart to come into your presence and worship you daily and honor you by my words and deeds.

Arise, O LORD, to your resting place, you and the ark of your strength. (Psalm 132:8 )
Holy Spirit, make our hearts tabernacles of your presence.

Let your priests be clothed with righteousness, and let your saints shout for joy. (Psalm 132:9)
Jesus, clothe the priests of this diocese with righteousness and let your people shout for joy.

For your servant David’s sake, do not turn away the face of your anointed. (Psalm 132:10)
Father, for the sake of your son Jesus, do not turn away those you have anointed to lead us in government. Thank you.

A word received: Wait on me, I will show you the way. Look to me for guidance and direction. Look to me and I will guide you in the storm.

Tamar bore the twin sons of Judah. While she was in labor, one twin put out his hand. The midwife tied a scarlet thread around his wrist, thinking he would be the firstborn. He drew back his hand, and and out came his brother! “What!” the midwife exclaimed. “How did you break out first?” So he was named Perez, which means breaking forth. Perez was an ancestor of Christ.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Like Tamar in travail bearing twins, the Episcopal Church is in travail bearing two contradictory theologies. Break through, Holy Spirit, and bring us Christ. Amen.
Genesis 38:27-30

Petition for wisdom

July 2, 2009

O Lord,
You have taught us to distingusih the clean from the unclean, righteousness from iniquity, the sacred from the profane. Your commands guard and protect us, and we thank You for them.

Strengthen the Christians in the marketplace, the merchants and sales representatives, the stock traders and the investors. Grant them wisdom that they may keep Your holy laws and bring honor to Your name. Guard them from squandering their spiritual legacy in impatience. Amen.
1 Samuel 13:5-14

Rev. Rob Eaton’s call to intercession

July 2, 2009

Rev. Eaton of St. John’s, Tulare, CA, has called us to intercession for the General Convention. The whole essay is superb, and I encourage you to read it all.

But whereas in previous years the Lord might have directed intercessors to be engaged in the daily details in the struggle of that ministry of governance, we are this year, this Convention, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, called to look to the Lord until he show us his mercy, praying as the Spirit “gives utterance”, both in mind and spirit.

He has done yeoman’s work, setting up a website for GC intercession. Please go over to the site and sign up for a time slot. Anglicans of any stripe are welcome to sign up.
