Prayer Table Reports

July 12, 2009

Christ Church Schenectady Prayer Table report July 11, 9:20-10:30AM Torre Bissell and Don Foust
+–indicates received wooden cross made by Dennis Adams of North Carolina.

+Darrell — Pray for my wife (Parrietta) who has kidney failure.

+Eric (and his dog Randy)–Eric is looking for work and has trouble with alcoholism. Eric is trying to make his neighborhood a better place–The dog he was walking belonged to his neighbor’s grand-daughter who just passed away. The neighbor is 82 years old and cannot take care of the dog. Eric helps the single mothers in the neighborhood with handy work, but he is becoming the target of the “nastier” side of the neighborhood. People kicked-down his door; when he tried to defend himself with a baseball bat, they called the police and had Eric arrested. We prayed for protection and for God to show Eric direction in his life.

+Peter– for a job. Several months ago Peter left a personal journal in the side-door at Christ Church. The journal detailed how Jesus had made a difference in Peter’s life during his stint in jail. Peter wanted to know if anyone had read his journal.

+Eddiberto and +Lucinata– This older Hispanic couple has visited the Prayer Table several times in the past 2 months. They were on their way to the Iglesia De Dios yard sale. We prayed for their family (4 children–one child in the Navy) and especially for their son Manuel who is desperately looking for a job so he does not lose his house. On their return, Eddiberto and Lucinata told us they had been to the Friday night service at Iglesia DeDios and “felt the Spirit”.

+Carol– For protection and safety

+Walter– For healing of the “pain in his skin”

+Kim– This young woman had visited the Prayer Table 2 weeks ago. At that time she was staggering–very high and physically beaten. Today she was high again, but not as bad as before. We prayed for freedom from drugs and from prostitution.

+Rachel–A van across the street stopped, and Rachel got out and came to the Prayer Table. She asked for prayers for her family and for comfort in these difficult times. She may attend the 10:20 service on Sunday at Christ Church (she asked for the time when services began). Rachel is from Guyana.

—-We have observed that many people in the cars driving by on State Street have noticed the Prayer Table. Drivers and passengers often will wave to us. This is the second week in a row that a car has stopped, and the person inside has come for prayer.

+Mike–Second time this young man has come across the street for prayer. Mike asked for prayer for this family (his mother and father as well as his children) and for health.

Gary–walking by–did not stop–prayed for protection

Roxanne–In a hurry to do her laundry–stopped for a short time and asked for a blessing–said she already had a cross.

Jim–Jim is a regular visitor. Over the course of a year, Jim has gone from just walking by and saying hello, to sitting and praying with us. Each week he opens up a little more. This week, this older gentleman told us his father was an alcoholic and was violent–his mother had mental problems. Jim was raised by Catholic nuns. We prayed for healing of his childhood memories.

PRAYER TABLE REPORT
(Sat., July 11, 2009; 10:30 – 11:30 – Dianne Gambill and David Carlson)
[+ --indicates received one of the wooden crosses from Dennis Adams of North Carolina.]

+ Sean – prayer for finances – he and his wife had their phone and cable turned off because they couldn’t pay the bill; we prayed for God’s provision for them

John – has come before and said he already has 2 of our crosses – he asked prayer for “world peace” – we prayed for the peace of the world and for peace in John’s life – that he would know the Prince of Peace

Rumar – said he had already prayed this morning but stopped to speak to us briefly; we prayed after he left that the Lord would meet his needs and that he will be drawn close to God

+ Leroy – we prayed for his 11-year-old daughter in Connecticut and his 22-year-old son in Rochester; Leroy is a believer and asked prayer that he can be a blessing to others; after we prayed for him, he prayed for us

+ Eric – asked prayer for his leg – he was hurt in a car accident 2 years ago and had to have surgery on his spine; his leg has improved enough that he does need to walk with a cane

+ Millie – her friend brought her the table for prayer; the friend said that she and her husband had come for prayer earlier while Torre and Don were there, now she wanted prayer for her friend Millie; Millie’s ex-boyfriend was recently hit by a car while riding on a bike; they also asked prayer for a friend named Maria who is suicidal; Millie did not speak much English and her friend often had to translate; we gave Millie a Spanish-language Bible

+ Aisha – woman on her way to the bus stop – asked prayer for “everything”

+ + Mary — woman already at the bus stop hurried over to the prayer table, — “I want prayer too but my bus is coming so hurry!” – we prayed for her, with our eyes open, keeping an eye on the bus as it made its way up State St. – she asked for 2 crosses, 1 for her and one for her fiancé

+ Nathan – teenager who sometimes attends Christ Church – stopped to get a cross

Note: Dianne and I are looking for a source of inexpensive Bibles (both English and Spanish) that we can purchase to give out to those who ask for one – if anyone knows where we can get them please let us know.

Psalm 149

July 12, 2009

Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, and his praise in the assembly of saints. (Psalm 149:1)
Help us, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, to praise you in the assembly of your people today.
Let Israel rejoice in their maker; let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. (Psalm 149:2)
Holy Spirit, help us find our joy in Jesus.
Let them praise his name with the dance; let them sing praises to him with the timbrel and harp. (Psalm 149:3)
Father, please help us sing the praises of Jesus today.
For the Lord takes pleasure in his people; he will beautify the humble with salvation. (Psalm 149:4)
Jesus, help us come into the beauty of holiness and humility.
Let the saints be joyful in glory; let them sing aloud on their beds. (Psalm 149:5)
Jesus, we want to praise you from our first waking in the morning until our falling asleep at night.
Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand, (Psalm 149:6)
LORD, arm your faithful deputies and bishops at General Convention as you did of old with praise of you in their mouth and the sword of your Spirit, which is your word, in their hands.
To execute vengeance on the nations, and punishments on the peoples; (Psalm 149:7)
Holy Spirit, please help the deputies and bishops do your work at General Convention.
To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; (Psalm 149:8 )
Jesus, bind the leaders and teachers of the Episcopal Church with bonds of love. Help them speak and do only what your love would desire.
To execute on them the written judgment — this honor have all his saints. Praise the Lord! (Psalm 149:9)
LORD, bring your faithful servants at General Convention into the joy that comes from praising you and doing your will. Thank you.
A word received: Come to me; I will give you rest.

Petition for intercessors

July 12, 2009

O Lord,
Raise up intercessors for Your children in the Epsicopal Church, especially those in Anaheim. May they have the faces of lions and the feet of deer. Make them confident in Your might and swift to obey. May they put to flight the principalities, powers, and rulers of darkness in the valley of despair. Amen.
1 Chronicles 12:8-15, Ephesians 5:12

Petition for godly deputies and bishops

July 12, 2009

Dear Heavenly Father,
Your hand was upon King David, and You gave him understanding of all the details in the building of the temple, to the glory of Your name. He instructed his son Solomon to be careful to follow all Your commands that he may possess the land and pass it on as an inheritance.
Lord, You search every heart and understand every motive behind the thoughts. We cry out for bishops and deputies that seek You and follow Your commands. May they gain understanding of what You would have them do in this time in Anaheim to bring Your kingdom in, all to the glory of Your name. Keep Your hand upon them. Amen.
1 Chronicles 28:8, 9, 19

Rosebud Indian Reservation

July 11, 2009

A year ago, Rev. Timothy Fountain on the Northern Plains Anglicans blog led a 40-day prayer campaign for the Rosebud Indian Reservation because of the high suicide rate. This was held concurrent with the prayer campaign for Lambeth Conference, and we now routinely post prayers for the afflicted during campaigns for church meetings.
(I can’t do a decent theological explanation as to why, but it just feels right. Remember the children of Israel were commanded to give different types of offerings–sin offering, peace offering, consecration offering, etc. Something along that line, I think.)–JW

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts. The whole earth is full of His glory. Holy, holy, holy is His name. The Rosebud Indian Reservation is full of His glory.
You, O Lord of hosts, are the desire of the nations. You are our desire for the Rosebud Indian Reservation because only You can bring deliverance, peace, and safety. Rosebud is full of Your glory.
You, O Lord of hosts, hold the silver and the gold. Reveal to Your chosen leaders the hidden treasure in the reservation. Reveal the spiritual and the material treasures. Bless them with spiritual and financial resources. Bless them, we pray. Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts. Amen.

Isaiah 6:3, Haggai 2:7-9

Pray for Sweeping Revival in The Church –

Righteous Lord, we ask You to send sweeping revival even if it takes hard times and great trials to prepare the soil of our hearts. Father, we pray not for shallow selfish ends, but for Your great glory and kingdom. Cause us to come to You in true humility, brokenness and contriteness of heart.
(Matthew 26:39; James 4:1-4)

Deliver us from our enemies

July 11, 2009

Ephesians 6:12 (New Living Translation)
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Father,
The Anglican Communion is part of the Body of Christ. It is under the protection of the blood of Jesus. We stand in agreement and make this claim against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against the mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Deliver us from our enemies at Anaheim, we pray. Amen.

Release

July 11, 2009

“Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” The evil spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.
Mark 1:25-26

O Jesus, speak to the evil in our hearts, we pray. Release into the atmosphere that sound which will break through the strongholds of Satan. Amen.

Financial Goliaths

July 11, 2009

Lord God Almighty,
The uncircumcised Philistines in the marketplace come against Your children with many weapons of destruction. They disgrace Your name and defy You.

Arm Your children with the five stones of worship, Holy Scripture, prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. The battle is Yours, and You will hand the Philistines over. Amen.

Pray for Salvation and Wisdom in Government Leaders –

Holy Father, we humbly ask for a mighty move of conviction and salvation in government leaders and others who influence culture. We ask You to pour out convicting, saving power upon Washington, D. C., colleges, universities, media networks and the Hollywood movie industry. We ask that you so move that millions will be converted to Christ in these strategic communities of cultural influence.
(Psalm 2:8; 1 Timothy 2:1-4)

Mysterious tremors

July 10, 2009

From Fox News–

LOS ANGELES — Scientists have detected a spike in underground rumblings on a section of California’s San Andreas Fault that produced a magnitude-7.8 earthquake in 1857.

What these mysterious vibrations say about future earthquakes is far from certain. But some think the deep tremors suggest underground stress may be building up faster than expected and may indicate an increased risk of a major temblor.

Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Even at night

July 10, 2009

I will praise the LORD, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
I have set the LORD always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.
Psalm 16:7-8

Dear Lord,
Gideon built an altar to You and called it Jehovah-shalom. That same night You instructed him to pull down the altar of Baal, use the wood to build an altar to You and offer a burnt sacrifice.
When Gideon asked for a sign, twice You visited the fleece at night.
At night You came to him again and told him to meet the Midianites in battle. You gave him yet another sign. He overheard someone recount a dream about a loaf of bread tumbling into the Midianite camp and overturning a tent.
At night, Gideon routed the Midianite camp, by blowing the trumpets, breaking the pitchers, holding the lamps, and shouting, ‘The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.’
We thank You for visiting the faithful at night. Stay close to Your sons and daughters in Anaheim, Lord. Give them instructions. Grant their requests for signs. Speak to them in dreams. Release the sound of the trumpet. Overturn the tents of the enemies. Hold up the light of Christ. Wield the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Amen.

Acts 10:34-48

July 10, 2009

Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.” (Acts 10:34)
Thank you, LORD that you do not judge as man judges.
“But in every nation whoever fears him and works righteousness is accepted by him.” (Acts 10:35)
Holy Spirit, visit the bishops and deputies at General Convention and give them an enduring fear of you and guide them into doing works of righteousness.
“The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ–he is Lord of all–” (Acts 10:36)
Jesus, please help us hear and receive the word you preached.
“that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached:” (Acts 10:37)
Father, help us hear that converting word which you spoke through your servant John.
“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.” (Acts 10:38 )
Jesus, we ask you to work in the hearts of those at the General Convention and set free all who are oppressed by the devil.
“And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree.” (Acts 10:39)
Jesus, thank you for your willing sacrifice on the cross for us.
“Him God raised up on the third day, and showed him openly,” (Acts 10:40)
Holy Spirit, thank you for enabling us to know that Jesus is alive and ministering to all his people today.
“not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with him after he arose from the dead.” (Acts 10:41)
Jesus, thank you for your faithful witnesses who still speak to us through your Holy Spirit and through the pages of Scripture.
“And he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is he who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead.” (Acts 10:42)
Father, please help your people truly heed your command to preach Jesus, and him crucified.
“To him all the prophets witness that, through his name, whoever believes in him will receive remission of sins.” (Acts 10:43)
Holy Spirit, thank you for the witness of your prophets. Help all those at the General Convention, through the name of Jesus, believe in him and receive remission of their sins.
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. (Acts 10:44)
Jesus, let your word be proclaimed at General Convention and have your Holy Spirit fall on all those who hear it.
And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. (Acts 10:45)
Father, astonish us with what you will do among us and at General Convention by the gift of your Holy Spirit.
For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered, (Acts 10:46)
Holy Spirit, please pour out your gifts on your people now.
“Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? ” (Acts 10:47)
Jesus, help us respond to the work of your Holy Spirit as Peter did.
And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days. (Acts 10:48 )
LORD, thank you for the work you are doing right now throughout your church and at General Convention.

A word received: Pray for my people; pray for their courage to be restored. They are like the army of Israel that quaked before Goliath of Gath. Pray that I will raise up champions who will speak and do my word. (1 Samuel 17:1-11)

Friday: 16, 17; 1 Samuel 17:17-30; Acts 10:34-48; Mark 1:1-13
Saturday: 20, 21:1-7(8-14); 1 Samuel 17:31-49; Acts 11:1-18; Mark 1:14-28
