Ugandan and Sudanese Christians pray and fast for the end of LRA violence

September 9, 2009

Christians in violence-hit Western Equatoria State conducted three days of fasting and prayer for peace in the region this week. Hundreds of Christians took part in a 20 kilometer march for peace from Nzara to Yambio, led by Catholic Bishop Edward Hiiboro Kussala and by Bishop Peter Munde of the Episcopal Church of Sudan.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Part the heavens over Uganda, Sudan, and Congo. Mount the cherubim and soar on the wings of the wind! By Your hand, save Your children. By Your hand, deliver them. By Your hand, eradicate the Lord’s Resistance Army. Amen.
Psalm 17:14, 18:9-10

Philippians 2:1-11

============ 9/9/2009, #77, 3rd Quarter 2009

Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, (Philippians 2:1)
      Jesus, please help us seek after and find the consolation you offer, the comfort of your love, the fellowship of your Spirit, and your affection and mercy.

fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. (Philippians 2:2)
      Holy Spirit, fulfill Bishop Bill’s joy by helping us be like-minded in Christ, having Jesus’ love for one another, being in one accord, and of one mind, directed by you.

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. (Philippians 2:3)
      Father, help us today lay aside our agenda, our ambitions and seek after the mind of Christ.

Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. (Philippians 2:4)
      Holy Spirit, guide us in seeking the true welfare of each other in this diocese.

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:5-8 )
      Jesus, please help us have your mind and your sense of direction about the issues which plague and divide the Episcopal Church.

Therefore God also has highly exalted him and given him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11)
      Holy Spirit, please help us in humility submit ourselves to Jesus’ will and purposes for our lives and for this diocese.
