Genesis 1:3 (New International Version)
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Your word brought forth light. It created something out of nothing. Grant to the leaders of the Epsicopal Church of Sudan an apostolic anointing to bring forth illumination and to create Your kingdom in Sudan as it is in heaven. Amen.

Matthew 4:17-20

September 15, 2009

From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” (Matthew 4:17)
Lord, please help us heed your call to repent; help us recognize the signs of times.

And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. (Matthew 4:18 )
Jesus, please come and meet us in the work place as you did Simon and Andrew.

Then he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19)
Holy Spirit, help us daily follow Jesus.

They immediately left their nets and followed him. (Matthew 4:20)
Father, please help us have the same immediate response to Jesus that Simon and Andrew had. Thank you.

A word received: Hear me, my people: seek my face.
      Pursue holiness and righteousness.
      Pursue me; seek me out.
I AM there — waiting for you.
Come into my arms and I will bless you.

Primate election

September 15, 2009

Tomorrow, Tuesday September 15th, the Anglican Church of Nigeria will hold elections to nominate a candidate to the position of the Archbishop of All Nigeria. The enthronement of Archbishop Akinola’s successor as Primate will not occur for months to come, but the House of Bishops will convene to decide tomorrow. As one of the leading provinces in the Anglican Communion,
this election is immensely important. Please join our Nigerian brothers and sisters in prayer tonight and tomorrow as they pray for the House of Bishops during these elections.

Some specific prayer points include travel to and from the meeting, protection of families and dioceses left behind, unity, clarity, and ears to hear the Lord. As the Lord calls the next Archbishop, pray that the Lord will equip and guide him. One of the Nigerian bishops emphasized that there is much work to be done ahead, but they are not willing to give up. May we join with them in his prayer that Nigeria will continue to “shine forth, stand up for truth, pursue righteousness and justice.”
