1 Corinthians 2:1-5

September 16, 2009

And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. (1 Corinthians 2:1)
Holy Spirit, please help us lay aside excellence of speech and wisdom, and come to people in humility when we desire to share the gospel.

For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. (1 Corinthians 2:2)
Jesus, please help us know you and the power of your cross.

I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. (1 Corinthians 2:3)
Jesus, help us to be in awe of you when we go to people with the gospel. Let your strength be made perfect in our weakness.

And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, (1 Corinthians 2:4)
      Holy Spirit, flow through us.

that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2:5)
Father, it is not by our might or power that we will win through to victory in the diocese, but by your Holy Spirit.

A word received: Come to me daily — seek me out while I may be found.
Look for me in the Scriptures.
Seek my Holy Spirit so that you can know me.

Fort Worth litigation

September 16, 2009

Judge John Chupp will reconvene the court hearing at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Many of the Psalms make suitable prayers (e.g. 70, 71, 73, 74).

Dear Lord,
The weight of our sins pulls us down. Demonic currents entrap us in a vortex of venom. Forgive us of the sin of cold love and save us from this deadly whirlpool.
Bless the church property under litigation in Fort Worth. Bless the land and bless the buildings. May it be used for generations to come for the glory of God. Bless each pulpit in Fort Worth. May each one be used to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ crucified.
Bless our enemies. You discern the thoughts and intents of the heart, Your word dividing spirit and soul. You alone know their inmost needs. Bless them in Your infinite wisdom. Amen.
