South Carolina

October 22, 2009

In the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina, concerns over the recent actions taken in July at the General Convention, and over matters of Scripture, polity and authority, have prompted diocese officials to call for a special Oct. 24 convention at which five resolutions will be considered.
Resolution No. 2 calls on Bishop Mark Lawrence and the Standing Committee “to begin withdrawing from all bodies of The Episcopal Church that have assented to actions contrary to Holy Scripture, the doctrine, discipline and worship of Christ as this Church has received them.”

Dear Father,
Our church stands in the fog of spiritual war. Open the heavens over South Carolina’s special convention. Send Your holy angels to encamp around them and shelter them with their wings. Enlighten the understanding of the delegates that they may perceive the next right step. Draw them closer to You. Amen.

Matthew 12:15-21

October 22, 2009

Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against him, how they might destroy him. But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew from there. And great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all. Yet he warned them not to make him known, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: (Matthew 12:14-17)
Holy Spirit, there is a time and a place for everything: a time to speak and a time to be silent. Help us know and follow your guidance in speaking and being silent.

“Behold! my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased!” (Matthew 12:18a)
Father, help us all know the pleasure you find in your son Jesus.

“I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will declare justice to the Gentiles.” (Matthew 12:18b)
Jesus, please declare and establish your justice in this nation.

“He will not quarrel nor cry out, nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.” (Matthew 12:19)
Jesus, please help us cease from anger and forsake wrath and fretting — it only causes harm. (See Psalm 37:8 )

“A bruised reed he will not break, and smoking flax he will not quench, till he sends forth justice to victory;” (Matthew 12:20)
Holy Spirit, please help all of us who are bruised and smoldering to find new life and strength in you.

“And in his name Gentiles will trust.” (Matthew 12:21)
Jesus, I place my trust and my hope in you and in the power of your name. Thank you for what you are doing in Fr. Nigel Mumford’s life. I bless what you are doing in and through him right now. Thank you.

A word received: Come to me; I will bless you.

Fr. Nigel update

October 22, 2009

Fr. Nigel update, 8:30 pm, October 21, 2009
I just talked with Fr. Haskell. He gave me the follow update on Fr. Nigel. This report was given to him at 5 pm.

There is no appreciable change in Fr. Nigel’s condition. He is still “critical but stable.” He is still getting oxygen at 90%. The nurses reported that last night “was the best night he has had.”

Pray that the fluid in his lungs would go away. Pray that Jesus would be in charge of this whole situation and that Fr. Nigel would be returned to the ministry that God has prepared for him.

The wife of a deacon in the diocese received this prayer for Fr. Nigel: “The glorious light of the Resurrection encircles and empowers me, destroying all death.

Over 140 people that I know of have been praying for him. I also know that many others in this and other countries have been praying for him.
