Notes from the Front Line 10-25-2009

A word received by a member of Christ Church Schenectady as the congregation was praying for Fr. Nigel this morning: What if Nigel’s life depended only on your prayers and no one else’s? That is how I want you to pray.

  1. Kelly in SC says:

Much emphasis has been appropriately put on the praying aspect but let us not forget to fast, too.

But my purpose for commenting was to post a prayer for Nigel, so here we go:

Father, in my sanctified imagination, I see your son, Nigel, sitting on your knee high in the heavenlies. Angels encircle Your throne, keeping watch and defending Nigel from his enemies.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation–whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life–of whom shall I be afraid? When evil men [and spirits] advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.

Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.”

    Psalm 27:1-3

I believe You are doing a deep work of healing in Nigel’s heart and so this is what I pray for my brother:

Lord Jesus, we know Nigel’s PTSD first began when he lost the men he commanded. I cannot imagine the guilt Nigel has been carrying ever since that day. Out of that guilt I believe he became another kind of shepherd, another kind of protector, and another kind of warrior. But regardless of the reason he became your servant we thank you, most Gracious Father, for his dedicated service to you. Through him You have healed so many of us.

But the enemy has no doubt tormented Nigel with memories and flashbacks since he was a young man. So, what I would like for you to do, Father, is to call forth any and all of those men Nigel lost years ago to your side, so Nigel can see with his own eyes the lives they live with you in Heaven. I pray that upon seeing some of his men, Nigel will instantly understand he is absolutely and totally forgiven for the death of those soldiers. I pray most Holy Father that this healing will be completely sealed in the heavenlies so when Nigel’s health is restored, he will never again be tormented by his past. He will never again jump at the sound of car backfiring. He will never again wrestle with a startle reflex that won’t quit. Never again will he flinch if someone accidently touches him as they come up behind him.

Deliver your son from this torment! Deliver your son from guilt! Deliver your son from any unforgiveness and contempt he might have toward himself! Fill your child with unspeakable joy. Lance the deep but infected wounds in his heart. Expose them so they can be healed. THIS IS LIFE, Father. So much more than just a healed body. We want Nigel to return to us whole in so many more ways than one.

And we know there is nothing, Lord Jesus, that you cannot do. There is no place you cannot go with someone. There is no darkness that can hide You and there is NO power that can defeat You. And that is why we rejoice today over your loving kindness for your son. We know you will do this, Jesus. From everlasting to everlasting you are God, and WE BELIEVE YOU.

In Your Mighty, Most Awesome and Glorious Name, the Lord Jesus Christ, we pray these things. Amen and Amen!
