Torre,
I was telling someone about Nigel and googled him to find the Guidepost article written last year. http://www.guideposts.com/story/healers-journey

One paragraph stands out:
Nigel gave up his business and comfortable home and began what he calls “a semi-monastic life” at a vacant church retreat house that has now become the Oratory of the Little Way. Some words he’d read in the bible now held great meaning for him: “The prayer of faith will save the sick…”
We definitely need to continue our prayers of faith – “The prayer uttered in faith will reclaim the one who is ill, and the Lord will “raise him up” (restore him to health). James 5:15.
(Someone may have already quoted this passage in a previous message, I don’t remember.)

Dear Torre and Jean,
Today at our service at Church of the Holy Trinity, Syracuse, we had a time of prayer for Nigel+. Afterwards, a woman came up to me to say that one night during this past week, she woke up with a severe cough and choking sensation. She immediately prayed for the Lord to heal her and it was relieved. She then thought of Nigel+, whom she had never met, but knew about him and his healing ministry, and began to pray for him. Following that, her sense was that the Lord was going to do something very powerful because of what he is going through-she has no idea what that might be, but the Lord is going to use it for His glory.
I just wanted to add this to the growing body of testimonies that I already see coming forth.

Dear Torre,
I have been in and around the Christian Healing ministry since I was a little girl, and I don’t believe I have ever seen anything like this……and I agree with Melissa Scoggins comment on your blog. I think the Lord is working through Nigel right now, and His power is being manifested in many ways. What the Lord gave me (also in a very powerful way!) was this scripture. He highlighted the opening and closing verses to me, so I have highlighted them here…..
Nigel always speaks of the power of God and having “Holy Boldness” when we approach him. I believe that the thousands of us are the “cloud of witnesses” now….and the Lord is doing amazing, remarkable things in all of this. He WILL heal Nigel. His will for us is that we be healed, and we claim that. We have faith. We believe. We will run this race with Nigel with perseverance.
Blessings, Liz Forman, Richmond, VA
Hebrews 11-12:1 (New International Version)
Hebrews 11
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2This is what the ancients were commended for. 3By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. 4By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead. 5By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. 7By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. 8By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. 11By faith Abraham, even though he was past age–and Sarah herself was barren–was enabled to become a father because he[a]considered him faithful who had made the promise. 12And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore. 13All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. 14People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. 15If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. 16Instead, they were longing for a better country–a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. 17By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, 18even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring[b] will be reckoned.”[c] 19Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death. 20By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future. 21By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff. 22By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and gave instructions about his bones. 23By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. 24By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. 26He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. 27By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. 28By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel. 29By faith the people passed through the Red Sea[d] as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned. 30By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the people had marched around them for seven days. 31By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.[e] 32And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets, 33who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies. 35Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection. 36Some faced jeers and flogging, while still others were chained and put in prison. 37They were stoned[f]; they were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated– 38the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground. 39These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. 40God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
Hebrews 12
1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Torre I had taken the 11p to 12 a slight. I’d like to change to 8-9p. The last 2 nights I’ve fell asleep during the 1 hr span and feel I’m not doing justice to the prayer commitment. Thank you. Lucille Wheater

[Note from Torre: I am no longer trying to track specific times -- it got overwhelming. There are over 1,000 people praying daily and all hours of the day and night. I am awed by the outpouring of prayer for Nigel and his family and ministry. Don't worry about falling asleep -- I do that regulary. Then I wake up and start praying again.]

Yesterday I was thinking about the passage in Daniel where the angel, Michael, was delayed for three weeks because he was involved in another ferocious battle against the rulers of Persia (I think!).
So, I was wondering if in Nigel’s case, the angels are also delayed. I started to pray that if this is what is happening, then the Lord would give those warrior angels victory in the battles they are currently fighting so they can be released and come fight for Nigel.
I prayed from 11:39 to 12:09 last night. I felt tension, then peace. I got plenty of sleep, but today it is harder to pray and to concentrate. I wonder if anyone is experiencing anything similar.
It’s been a privilege to pray with you all.

Praying in South Carolina Says:
October 24, 2009 at 12:41 am | Reply edit
This morning I was awakened at 6 to pray. I decided to do it outside to watch the sunrise. The sky was riddled with thick, smokey gray clouds–and yet, the sun still came up, brilliant, casting its golden yellow light everywhere. Black ravens scattered as I walked near them, but the Great Blue Heron, which usually flies away from me as I get even within thirty feet, remained at ease as I passed just inches away from it. This has never happened to me before.
We had four rain storms today. Following each one the sun shined brilliantly again, with not even a hint of rain in the air. A few vultures flew around me as I prayed for Nigel, but they too, left. White herons and egrets then flew in, as well as a few doves as I continued to pray. And I saw several swarms of yellow butterflies all day, too.
As I witnessed these things today, I thought about all the comments written here because in the sky I saw the themes of recurring darkness and light, as you would see in a battle with two (almost) equal adversaries wrestling with each other, each gaining the upper hand momentarily. And in the animals, I saw death but then life, and then ultimately resurrection in the form of the butterflies.
These events/signs reminded that among the many things Christians are, we are warriors. I forget this so often, but since nature itself reminded me that we are indeed engaged in a vicious battle, it seemed right to make a humble but bold declaration of war against the enemy today. Through the Holy Spirit we do have all authority over the evil one and his purposes.
But I do pray for you all who are also praying for Nigel. I pray that as you continue to do battle, you will be protected from fatigue, discouragement, and fear, and that you will be strengthened and encouraged as you fight against all the powers of darkness for Nigel’s precious life.
      In your Name, Jesus. Amen.

Subject: Nigel is “Cared for and Carried” by the Lord Jesus
Torre,
As I was praying for Nigel and Lynn this morning, I had a very peaceful and distinct feeling that the Lord cares deeply for them and is carrying them through:
Cared for and Carried

I have cared for you since you were born.
Yes, I carried you before you were born.
I will be your God throughout your lifetime –
until your hair is white with age.
I made you, and I will care for you.
I will carry you along and save you.

I will feed my flock like a shepherd.
I will carry the lambs in My arms,
holding them close to My heart.
I will gently lead the mother sheep
with their young.

I will surround you and watch over you;
I will guard you as I would guard My own eyes.
Like an eagle that rouses her chicks
and hovers over her young,
so I will spread My wings to take you up
and carry you safely on My pinions.
I, the Lord, alone guide you.

I, the eternal God, am your refuge,
and My everlasting arms are under you.

Adapted from Isaiah 46:3-4 & 40:11, and Deuteronomy 32: 10-13 & 33:27 (NLT)

To Lynn, Nigel, and all of your loved ones,

with prayers that the Lord will tenderly care for you and carry you all,

Elizabeth Allen October 24, 2009
May we continue to remember and give thanks that Jesus’ everlasting arms are under Nigel and Lynn, holding them up.
In the fearless peace of the Lord,

Torre,
I wanted to tell you about an experience I just had praying for Nigel. I was telling God I was worried about Nigel and a bit peeved (I’m pretty transparent before my Lord) and frankly just wanted Him to GET ON with healing my brother Nigel. And I said I felt a bit like giving up…at which point I heard this voice inside my head say, “DON’T YOU DARE! Never give up on God, all things are possible with God, God acts when and how God chooses. BUT YOU BELIEVE AND PRAY.” Well, all right then. My attitude changed immediately to one of trust and I began praying again — I believe, help my unbelief. And I said, “God, Nigel’s body is wounded but his spirit is perfect and saved and whole — so please make his body like his spirit, whole and healthy and able to work for You.” What was really interesting about this was that I didn’t feel it was God chastising me — but NIGEL, talking to me spirit-to-spirit. I really felt Nigel encouraging me to persevere for him — or rather, to persevere for God. I’ve never experienced anything like this.

Torre & Jean,

While praying a few minutes ago the idea of Christ Church community prayer meeting for Nigel came to mind and stuck. What I mean is a gathering set aside purely for prayers for Nigel as Christ Church community and those who can’t attend could pray at same time as group from wherever they are.

It has been mentioned before to pray and fast but also strong sense that we must look within ourselves, “clean house” so to speak, so the evil one has less to throw in our face in an effort to weaken our prayer resolve and discourage us, leaving nothing to take away the power of our prayers.

We MUST not stop praying for Nigel when he begins to recover. From a nursing standpoint and personal history, it is not unusual for pneumonia to lie relatively dormant and relapse is not infrequent. My first pneumonia with sepsis three years ago nearly killed me and quickly. It took six months for my chest x-ray to clear and I had a relapse. Vigilance is required for all involved including prayer warriors.

God Bless, Flo

Prayer Table Report

October 24, 2009

Christ Church Schenectady Prayer Table Report October 24, 9:20-10:30 AM Torre Bissell and Don Foust
+–indicates received wooden cross made by Dennis Adams of North Carolina.

The torrents of rain let up between 9 and 11 am on Saturday so that the Prayer Table experienced only spotty showers. While the weather was damp and grey, people stopping by were smiling and enthusiastic that the Prayer Table was available for them. Even cars passing by would sound their horns in encouragement.

The Prayer Table has become a regular stop for a number of folks in the Neighborhood, and we have added their names to the bottom of the Prayer Table Report.

Tony–This is the third consecutive week Tony stopped by the Prayer Table. Tony is 26 years old and from Guyana. He is struggling to resist the “negative” side of the Neighborhood. He knows the difference between right and wrong and trying to avoid those doing evil. He is paying a price for his attitude; young men in the Neighborhood try to start fights with him because he will not join them. He has a hard time forgiving those who do not see life as he does. Tony describes the Prayer Table as a “welcome site” on his journey on State Street. We prayed that the Lord would meet his needs this week. Please pray for Tony and his daily struggle to keep on the right path.

+Tamara– teen-age girl. Prayed for protection for her family.

Jim–regular–Jim thanked the Lord for his home. We thanked God for Jim’s heart of thanksgiving and prayed for continuing healing of his memories.

+Joe–On his way to the bus. We prayed for blessings on his family.

+Youseff — This is the second week in a row that Youseff stopped by the Prayer Table. Youseff was wearing his cross from last week. He walked out of his apartment and came directly to the Prayer Table. Youseff said that the Prayer Table is a blessing in his life. We prayed for his wife Erica and his son Youseff, Jr. He took a cross to give to a friend and spread the Word of God. We also gave Youseff a Bible. We thank God for Youseff’s zeal.

Will–This was also the second consecutive week that Will has stopped for prayer. Will attended Adult Sunday School at Christ Church last week. He is an intense young man and is seeking a stronger relationship with God. We prayed for another week full of blessings.

+Cesar–Cesar has also stopped by the Prayer Table previously. We prayed for his sister Linda in Birmingham, Alabama who just had surgery. Cesar also came directly from his home to the Prayer Table. He is learning to give his problems over to the Lord. Please pray for a continuing faith for Cesar.

+Sarah–This young woman was very cautious as she approached the Prayer Table. We prayed for provision and protection. This was clearly not what she expected. As she crossed State Street, she put on her new wooden cross.

Man riding by on a bicycle– “God bless you”

+Brother Steve–handing out flyers for a program on October 31 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Swan Street. We prayed for his witness to the Neighborhood.

+Bobbie–This middle-aged man walked by the Prayer Table on the opposite side of the street. We called out to him, but he kept walking. Then a minute later he suddenly stopped, crossed the street, and came for prayer. We prayed for blessings on his life and that he would turn to God when he was seeking answers to his questions.

Prayer Table Regulars

Kayla– Pray for healing in her life after being raped. Pray for her mother Laura, her son Nassir, her brother Josh, and Josh’s son Deanthony.

Jim–Pray for healing in his life from abusive parents and for his personal peace after the death of his 31 year old son Robert.

Bill–Pray for his health and no more epileptic seizures.

Lucinada and Eddiberto–Pray for protection for their family

Paulette and her children Monique and Taishawn–Pray for provision for this family

Clarence–Pray for direction as he seeks to change his life.

Linda–Pray for her family in Guyana

      11:37 AM, Oct. 24, 2009
Nigel’s fever came up again some during this morning.
Still critical and fragile, KEEP PRAYING.
Lynn Mumford has asked prayer that the fever would go down and that Nigel’s lungs would clear.
Lynn also remember the passage where Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law and she was able to immediately serve them: “Now when Jesus had come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother lying sick with a fever. So he touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them. When evening had come, they brought to him many who were demon-possessed. And he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: ‘He himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.’” (Matthew 8:14-17)
Jesus, we pray that you will touch Nigel and raise him to serve you once again.

Dear Prayer Warriors-
As of 10 pm on Friday, our brother Nigel’s condition has been described as critical and fragile. On the good side, his blood oxygen levels have come up this evening. However, he has also developed a fever. Please pray that the fever go down and that he be filled with health by the power of our Lord Jesus.

Hello Torre,
This morning in prayer the Lord gave me there would be 7 days of completion of Father Nigel’s attack. That on the 6th day the enemy would powerfully counter attack. I had two forms of confirmation during the day, one of which was Psalm 12:6.
I believe God is calling us to a time of declaration over Nigel that God is in control, that God’s purpose for Nigel here on earth will be completed, that every day the enemy comes against Nigel the Lord is purifying His anointing in Nigel and will turn instead what the enemy intends to steal to a powerful victory for the Lord.
The anointing on Nigel will continue to grow as a testimony for the living Christ. It will spark a new fire of the Holy Spirit in this area.
I do not know when the oxygen tent was started but I believe that would be the beginning of this season.
So I just call on a state of declaration that Jesus came to turn back the intentions of the enemy as He declared in Luke 4:18, and we are called to do so as well.
This is a time of declaration of the nature of our Living Christ as His sons and daughters on earth. Now.
      Blessings. Michael Hales.

I don’t have time email all the details. Something beyond awesome has happened this past week and it’s all flowed out of Nigel’s sickness. There’s a powerful river of healing flowing from Nigel, even though he is seriously ill.

Subject: A prayer for Nigel Mumford as he passes through the waters
Torre,
Attached [see below] is a prayer for Nigel as he passes through the waters of fluid in his lungs. May our gracious God carry him safely through the deep waters to dry ground. As Nigel rests safe and secure in the strong arms of the Lord Jesus, may he be blessed with the joy of deep, intimate fellowship with his Savior.
In the fearless peace of the Lord, Elizabeth Allen

Save Nigel Mumford, O God,
for the waters have come up to his neck.
He has come into the deep waters;
the floods engulf him.
He and his family are worn out calling for help;
his throat is parched.

Rescue Nigel from the mire.
Do not let him sink.
Deliver Nigel from those who hate him,
from the deep waters.
He is in pain and distress.
May Your salvation, O God, protect Nigel
and all those who love him and are praying for him.

But now, this is what the Lord says –
He who created him.
“Fear not, for I have redeemed Nigel.
I have called him by name;
he is Mine.

When Nigel passes through the waters,
I will be with him;
And when he passes through the rivers,
they will not sweep over him.
When he walks through the fire,
he will not be burned.
For I am the Lord, his God,
The Holy One of Israel, his Savior.”

Adapted from Psalm 69 and Isaiah 43: 1-3

To Nigel and Lynn,
With ongoing prayer for Nigel’s full and rapid recovery,

Dearest Lord, Your dear son Nigel continues to struggle in his fight for life and breath while your people fight in prayer to win against the enemy. Lord, the thread that runs through the posted scriptures and prayers seem to indicate that this is not the time for our brother to come home to You, but rather to regain his ministry. Lord, we ask you for an indication that You have turned the tide. Specifically, we pray that the pathogens that have caused this pneumonia will be utterly destroyed and leave his body. While Brother Nigel rests, speak to his spirit. Tell him what You want his future to be.
Lord, today as I read Daniel 9, I saw that Daniel (vs. 20) was speaking and praying and confessing his own sin and the sin of his people Israel and presenting his supplication before the Lord. Then, Daniel received his vision. But Daniel’s instructions did not come until after confession of sin — not only his own, but those of his people. Perhaps this would be a good time for us as the people of God to confess our sins and truly humble ourselves before You, oh, Father. We rest in your grace and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. Hear our prayer, O, Lord. In the name of our wonderful Savior and Lord Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

South Carolina

October 23, 2009

Today’s lectionary reading includes Psalm 31, which makes for an apt prayer for the diocese of South Carolina, if you adapt it from the first person to the third person. In the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina, concerns over the recent actions taken in July at the General Convention, and over matters of Scripture, polity and authority, have prompted diocese officials to call for a special convention tomorrow.

Ezra 3:10-13

October 23, 2009

When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests stood in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the Lord, according to the ordinance of David king of Israel. (Ezra 3:10)
Jesus, we pray that the foundation of your church today will be built on no other foundation than the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. (From Jude 3)

And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the Lord: “For he is good, for his mercy endures forever toward Israel.” Then all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid. (Ezra 3:11)
But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. (Jude 20-21)

But many of the priests and Levites and heads of the fathers’ houses, old men who had seen the first temple, wept with a loud voice when the foundation of this temple was laid before their eyes. Yet many shouted aloud for joy, so that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people, for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the sound was heard afar off. (Ezra 3:12-13)
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling,
      And to present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
      To God our Savior,
      Who alone is wise,
      Be glory and majesty,
      Dominion and power,
      Both now and forever.
      Amen.
(Jude 24-25)

Hi Torre,
I agree that we would do well to continue 24×7 prayer support in an intentional and organized manner. I’d be happy to sign up for 1/2 hour to 1 hour per day. What do you think?
Blessings, -Scott

[I fully agree and ask all of you to continue praying for 1/2 hour to 1 hour per day while Nigel is critically ill. God is doing a major work here. I know of one person in our diocese who received a major spiritual healing while she was praying for Nigel. Torre]

Torre,
I am no where near as eloquent as many people’s prayers that you have shared with us but as I pray and it has been much more often than the “assigned times” I had chosen.
I have had dreams and day-time images that represented a ferocious, deadly serious battle for Nigel’s life, his soul, his very being. I get repeated senses of contrasts — dark and light, good and evil, etc. I also continue to get a sense of don’t stop, pray even harder and more deeply — the evil one is lurking, waiting for us to get tired or distracted.
God Bless, Flo

Torre -
Elizabeth Allen’s message mentions an attached picture of Nigel. None was attached to your message. Sally and I think it’s a nice idea and would helpful to those who may not know Nigel personally. Can you send out the one Elizabeth says is attached? If you don’t have it, can you come up with a picture of Nigel to send out to your list?
Thanks, Forest
