A prayer for Nigel

October 23, 2009

2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Holy Spirit,
Breathe into Nigel’s nostrils the breath of life. Whisper Your love into the bronchial airways and alveoli of his lungs, and free him from the bondage of this illness. Amen.

***** Date: Thu, 22 Oct 2009
From: Robert F Haskell
Subject: Nigel
As of 7 pm on Thursday, Nigel’s condition is about the same as yesterday, “critical, but stable”. He continues to breathe a 90% oxygen mixture. The family asks that we continue to pray for his healing.

Good morning, Torre….blessings to you and to Jean.

A prophetic friend of mine, a pastor from MA, who has met with Nigel and has joined in this prayer effort had the following for me.
It supports your sense to press on with the prayer schedule. I pass this on to you, especially if you have been having a sense about continuing the 24/7 support.

I should mention that when he first began praying for Nigel urgently, he saw the death angel. He did not see that Tuesday night. This morning:
‘Happy to hear the positive progress being made. However it is not a time to let up- I think I see the enemy pulling back only to regroup, to lull the prayer teams into a victory mindset but thus must remain vigilant. ‘

I pass this on to you only because I sense I should.
God bless you greatly, and keep you both close, close, close to Him,
love Susan and Ralph

Subject: Prayers for Nigel that you might want to post
Torre,
I have been so thankful for your blog posting updates on Nigel’s condition. Attached and below please find three prayers that I have written or adapted for Nigel. I just sent one to your blog, but it is more beautiful in its original form, below. The text below is an e-mail that I sent out to all of the members of our OSL chapter in Winston-Salem, NC.
I’m just telling you this so that you can tell your friends in New York that the people of North Carolina love Nigel. We have sent him a very special symbol of our love in this small Bible. I believe that the Lord is going to work powerfully through the prayers of His people to bless Nigel and many others in years to come.
Thanks again for your very helpful blog!
With hope and expectancy for what the Lord is going to do, Elizabeth Allen
P.S. Below is the text of the e-mail that I sent to our OSL members on 10/20/09. Feel free to post any of my prayers for Nigel.

Dear friends,
Rev. Nigel Mumford is fighting for his life. Nigel is the former Royal Naval commando and drill instructor who has devoted his life to healing prayer. He is one of the leaders in Christian healing ministry in the US today. Several of us heard him (and experienced healing) in Greenville a few weeks ago. He was to speak at Healing Winds this past weekend, but developed a very serious pneumonia. He is in the ICU, on ventilator requiring 90% oxygen (improved from 100% earlier today). His oxygen saturation has stabilized in the 90′s. He is on antibiotics, though his pneumonia may be viral.
Spiritually, it seems to be a pitched battle. I am writing these words to give voice to the prayers that so many people are lifting up for Nigel. Let us pray, and keep praying, all through the night and day. Let us ask our friends to pray and ask their friends to pray, so that there is a circle of prayer surrounding Nigel that extends all over the world. For an update and to join the 24-hour prayer vigil for him, go to http://anglicanprayer.wordpress.com/. You might also like to read more about Nigel and print out one of the pictures in the attached file, so that you can look at his picture as you pray for him.

May the Spirit of the Living God
breathe life into Nigel’s lungs.
May He encourage Nigel in every fiber of his being
to keep fighting the good fight.
May the Lord Jesus gently pick Nigel up,
hold him close, and carry him through.
For He who is in Nigel
is greater than he who is in the world.
May the healing love that Nigel has given to so many people
return to him in good measure, pressed down and running over.
May we all, along with Nigel,
know the fearless peace of the Lord.
And may we rejoice with him in years to come,
celebrating the awesome way
that the Lord answered the prayers of His people
with His great compassion and unfailing love.

When I was thinking about how to pray for him tonight, I kept thinking of Nigel enthusiastically shouting, “God is BRILLIANT!” I looked up “brilliant” in the concordance and found it in the passage from 1 Timothy 6 that is attached and below.
I’ve also attached a brief passage from Acts, calling us to great boldness and asking God to stretch out His hand with healing power. Feel free to forward whatever you would like.
With the FEARLESS PEACE that Nigel talks about, Elizabeth Allen

THANK YOU, FATHER, FOR YOUR BELOVED SON NIGEL,
a man of God whom we love very much.
His life is a godly life, filled with
faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.
Help him to
KEEP FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT
for the true faith.

We earnestly pray, Father, that You will help Nigel to
HOLD TIGHTLY TO THE ETERNAL LIFE
to which You have called him,
which he has confessed so well
before so many witnesses.

LORD GOD, YOU GIVE LIFE TO ALL.
Nigel has obeyed Your command without wavering.
You are the blessed and only almighty God,
The KING of all kings
and LORD of all lords.
You alone can never die.
All honor and power are Yours forever.

SHINE YOUR BRILLIANT LIGHT
into Nigel’s lungs, body, mind, and spirit,
for You are light
and in You is no darkness at all.

Guard Nigel, just as he has guarded
all that You have entrusted to him.
RICHLY GIVE HIM EVERYTHING THAT HE NEEDS
for his trust is in You, Lord Jesus.

Adapted from 1 Timothy 6: 11-20 and 1 John 1: 5 (NLT)

O Lord, give us, your servants,
GREAT BOLDNESS
as we pray for Your beloved son Nigel Mumford.

Stretch out Your hand to him with HEALING POWER;

May MIRACULOUS SIGNS AND WONDERS
be done in Nigel’s life, restoring him to vibrant health
through the name of
YOUR HOLY SERVANT JESUS.

South Carolina

October 22, 2009

In the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina, concerns over the recent actions taken in July at the General Convention, and over matters of Scripture, polity and authority, have prompted diocese officials to call for a special Oct. 24 convention at which five resolutions will be considered.
Resolution No. 2 calls on Bishop Mark Lawrence and the Standing Committee “to begin withdrawing from all bodies of The Episcopal Church that have assented to actions contrary to Holy Scripture, the doctrine, discipline and worship of Christ as this Church has received them.”

Dear Father,
Our church stands in the fog of spiritual war. Open the heavens over South Carolina’s special convention. Send Your holy angels to encamp around them and shelter them with their wings. Enlighten the understanding of the delegates that they may perceive the next right step. Draw them closer to You. Amen.

Matthew 12:15-21

October 22, 2009

Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against him, how they might destroy him. But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew from there. And great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all. Yet he warned them not to make him known, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: (Matthew 12:14-17)
Holy Spirit, there is a time and a place for everything: a time to speak and a time to be silent. Help us know and follow your guidance in speaking and being silent.

“Behold! my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased!” (Matthew 12:18a)
Father, help us all know the pleasure you find in your son Jesus.

“I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will declare justice to the Gentiles.” (Matthew 12:18b)
Jesus, please declare and establish your justice in this nation.

“He will not quarrel nor cry out, nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.” (Matthew 12:19)
Jesus, please help us cease from anger and forsake wrath and fretting — it only causes harm. (See Psalm 37:8 )

“A bruised reed he will not break, and smoking flax he will not quench, till he sends forth justice to victory;” (Matthew 12:20)
Holy Spirit, please help all of us who are bruised and smoldering to find new life and strength in you.

“And in his name Gentiles will trust.” (Matthew 12:21)
Jesus, I place my trust and my hope in you and in the power of your name. Thank you for what you are doing in Fr. Nigel Mumford’s life. I bless what you are doing in and through him right now. Thank you.

A word received: Come to me; I will bless you.

Fr. Nigel update

October 22, 2009

Fr. Nigel update, 8:30 pm, October 21, 2009
I just talked with Fr. Haskell. He gave me the follow update on Fr. Nigel. This report was given to him at 5 pm.

There is no appreciable change in Fr. Nigel’s condition. He is still “critical but stable.” He is still getting oxygen at 90%. The nurses reported that last night “was the best night he has had.”

Pray that the fluid in his lungs would go away. Pray that Jesus would be in charge of this whole situation and that Fr. Nigel would be returned to the ministry that God has prepared for him.

The wife of a deacon in the diocese received this prayer for Fr. Nigel: “The glorious light of the Resurrection encircles and empowers me, destroying all death.

Over 140 people that I know of have been praying for him. I also know that many others in this and other countries have been praying for him.

The Anglican Digest

October 21, 2009

Rev. Kendall Harmon has requested our prayers for the annual meeting of the The Anglican Digest board.

Dear Father,
We speak Christ over the grounds and the buildings at Hillspeak. As the editors, Kendall and John, the publishers, and the board convene, grant them the mind of Christ. Christ be in their thoughts as they seek to understand what You would have them do, Christ be in their words as they speak, Christ be in their ears as they listen to one another, Christ be in their hands as they pray for one another and break bread together, Christ be in their feet as they depart. Amen.

Bethany prayer for Nigel

October 21, 2009

For several weeks, the word Bethany has repeatedly come up for my family–hence, John 11. JW

Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
Dear Lord, so many people have been touched by the ministry of Nigel Mumford, we are like a town. So many people he has ministered to have knelt at Your feet in adoration.
Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
Dear Lord, Nigel, whom You love, is sick. We claim this sickness for the glory of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was. Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
Dear Jesus, You love the intercessors who have cried out for Nigel. We see that You are the light of the world. Go to the Sarasota Springs Hospital again.
These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
Yes, Jesus. Nigel has been in a coma for four days. Go unto him.
Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellow disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
O Jesus, may we have the boldness of Thomas to crucify our worldly desires. We confess our sins (Name them, now.); forgive us, we pray.
Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.
Nigel has been on a ventilator for four days.
And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
We thank You for the many people who have comforted Nigel’s family in this ordeal.
Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
Oh how we love You, Jesus. You are the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We know, that even now, whatsoever You ask of God, God will give it to You.
Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
Jesus, we know Nigel shall rise again. You are the resurrection and the life. Nigel believes in You. Though he is in a coma, yet shall he live. Nigel lives in You and believes in You, and shall never die.
And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.
Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him. The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there. Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled. And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
Jesus wept.
Dear Jesus, the Convent of St. Mary falls at Your feet and weeps for Nigel. Take pity.
Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him! And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid.
Jesus, how You love Nigel! Jesus, command the stone to be taken away. We believe and expect to see Your glory.
And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
Father, we thank You for hearing Jesus and we understand that You hear Him always. We believe that You sent Jesus.
And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
We come up under the authority of the Blood Covenant, the authority of Your Word, and the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, and we cry out with a loud voice, Nigel, come forth.
And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
May the health care professionals loose him from this coma and the ventilator. Amen.

1 Corinthians 15:51-58

October 21, 2009

Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed– (1 Corinthians 15:51)
Lord, we long for that day of change when we shall put off the old man and put on the new.

in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. (1 Corinthians 15:52)
Lord Jesus, we cry out to you for your little ones: that none of the wheat will be lost with the chaff.

For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. (1 Corinthians 15:53)
Father, clothe us in your righteousness — help us put on incorruption and immortality.

So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” (1 Corinthians 15:54)
Jesus, we long to see your victory in Nigel: swallow up everything that would defeat or kill him.

“O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55)
Lord Jesus, just as you burst forth with new life from the tomb and defeated death and the grave, we ask you to bring Nigel Mumford to new life and victory over death and the grave.

The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. (1 Corinthians 15:56)
*      May the Name of Jesus, the Son of God, who is mightier than all the hosts of Satan, and more glorious than all the angels of heaven, abide with Nigel in his going out and his coming in; by day and by night; at morning and at evening; at all times and in all places.
*      May the Name of Jesus, the Son of God, protect and deliver Nigel from the wrath of evil persons; from the assaults of evil spirits; from foes invisible; from the snares of the Evil One; and from all low passions that beguile the soul and body.
*      May the Name of Jesus protect and deliver Nigel.
*      And the blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be with Nigel this day and always. Amen.
*      [Blessing adapted from the Anglican Christian community in Ceylon, Pakistan, and India]

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57)
Thank you, Father, for giving us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:58 )
Holy Spirit, please help us to be steadfast, immovable, and abounding in the work of Jesus: he ever lives to make intercession for us; help us join with him in interceding for Nigel and all those in need of our prayers. Thank you.

A word received: Pray for my little ones — the lost and the least.

24-hour prayer vigil for Fr. Nigel Mumford

October 19, 2009

Dear Intercessors:

We are beginning a 24-hour at-home prayer vigil for Fr. Nigel Mumford. His condition is stable. The following information is from Fr. Robert Haskell. It has been determined that the infection in his lungs is viral (and not a fungus). His blood/oxygen level is stable and is lower 90s and at a satisfactory level. He is still getting 100% oxygen and is still on the ventilator. The doctors are optimistic. His brother has flown in from England.

Fr. Mike Flynn at the Deacons’ Retreat urged people to pray Scripture, specifically Genesis 2:7 — “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
      1. Pray that the Holy Spirit will breathe into Fr. Nigel the breath of life.
      2. Pray that his blood/oxygen levels will stay at this level or improve (but not go down).
      3. Pray that the viral pneumonia will be defeated.
      4. Pray for strength and peace and a sense of the Lord’s presence for Fr. Nigel and Lynn.

Listed below are half-hour segments from 9 PM to night to 9 PM tomorrow evening. Please pick one or more half-hour segments to pray for Fr. Nigel. Please let me know which segment(s) you have picked. Let me know by email as quickly as you can. My email is torre.bissell@verizon.net. It is already 5 PM and we need people to sign up through the night hours. Torre Bissell (Albany Intercessor)

Psalm 25:1-7

October 19, 2009

To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul. (Psalm 25:1)
LORD, I look to you to heal and cleanse my soul.

O my God, I trust in you; Let me not be ashamed; Let not my enemies triumph over me. (Psalm 25:2)
Jesus, protect us from the wiles and traps of the evil one.

Indeed, let no one who waits on you be ashamed; let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause. (Psalm 25:3)
Father, we look to you, we wait on you for your mercy and protection for this diocese.
Please protect and heal your servant Nigel Mumford.
Bless and protect and multiply the healing ministry in this diocese.
Heal the many veterans who are wounded in body, soul and spirit who come to the Welcome Home Initiative.

Show me your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths. (Psalm 25:4)
Holy Spirit, guide and teach us.

Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; on you I wait all the day. (Psalm 25:5)
Jesus, you are the way, the truth, and the life — help us to be steady in you.

Remember, O Lord, your tender mercies and your lovingkindnesses, for they are from of old. (Psalm 25:6)
Jesus, please help us remember daily all that you have done for us.

Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; according to your mercy remember me, for your goodness’ sake, O Lord. (Psalm 25:7)
Lord Jesus, with the thief dying on the cross beside you I say, “Remember me,” and thank you for giving me the hope of resurrection and eternal life with you. Thank you for being my redeemer and for helping me know that you live. Thank you that even in the midst of life’s sorrows and can concerns I can say with Job, “I know that my Redeemer lives, and he shall stand at last upon the earth, and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God. I myself shall see him and not as a stranger.” (Job 19:25-27)

Subject: Prayers for Fr. Nigel Mumford
Dear Torre,
Thank you for getting this prayer request out. We were praying with the family this afternoon and they have requested prayers specifically focused for his lungs to be healed. In addition, all are encouraged to pray the passage from Genesis 2:7 “The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
Blessings, Beth Strickland

Spiritual warfare for Nigel

October 19, 2009

Rev. Nigel Mumford is director of the healing ministries at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center in the diocese of Albany and a popular speaker on healing prayer.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (Young’s Literal Translation)
For walking in the flesh, not according to the flesh do we war, for the weapons of our warfare [are] not fleshly, but powerful to God for bringing down of strongholds, reasonings bringing down, and every high thing lifted up against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of the Christ.

St. Patrick’s breastplate (pronouns modified)

We bind unto Nigel today
the strong Name of the Trinity,
by invocation of the same,
the Three in One, and One in Three.

We bind this day to Nigel forever,
by power of faith, Christ’s Incarnation;
his baptism in the Jordan river;
his death on cross for Nigel’s salvation;
his bursting from the spiced tomb;
his riding up the heavenly way;
his coming at the day of doom:
We bind unto Nigel today.

We bind unto Nigel the power
of the great love of cherubim;
the sweet “Well done” in judgement hour;
the service of the seraphim;
confessors’ faith, apostles’ word,
the patriarchs’ prayers, the prophets’ scrolls;
all good deeds done unto the Lord,
and purity of virgin souls.

We bind unto Nigel today
the virtues of the starlit heaven,
the glorious sun’s life-giving ray,
the whiteness of the moon at even,
the flashing of the lightning free,
the whirling wind’s tempestuous shocks,
the stable earth, the deep salt sea,
around the old eternal rocks.

We bind unto Nigel today
the power of God to hold and lead,
God’s eye to watch, God’s might to stay,
God’s ear to hearken to Nigel’s need;
the wisdom of our God to teach,
God’s hand to guide, God’s shield to ward;
the word of God to give Nigel speech,
God’s heavenly host to be his guard.

Against the demon snares of sin,
the vice that gives temptation force,
the natural lusts that war within,
the hostile men that mar Nigel’s course;
of few or many, far or nigh,
in every place, and in all hours
against their fierce hostility,
We bind to him these holy powers.

Against all Satan’s spells and wiles,
against false words of heresy,
against the knowledge that defiles
against the heart’s idolatry,
against the wizard’s evil craft,
against the death-wound and the burning
the choking wave and poisoned shaft,
protect him, Christ, till thy returning.

Christ be with him, Christ within him,
Christ behind him, Christ before him,
Christ beside him, Christ to win him,
Christ to comfort and restore him,
Christ beneath him, Christ above him,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love Nigel,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

We bind unto Nigel the Name,
the strong Name of the Trinity,
by invocation of the same,
the Three in One, and One in Three.
Of whom all nature hath creation,
eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
praise to the Lord of our salvation,
salvation is of Christ the Lord.
