Subject: Update on Fr. Nigel 9:51 AM

Tuesday 11/17/09

Fr. Nigel Mumford continues to be in critical condition but he also continues to be stable. Although there are only a few of his family and clergy who are able to visit Fr. Nigel because he is still in ICU and he is “isolated” to prevent any further infection, he recognizes them readily.

His oxygen numbers are slowly being reduced (which means he is becoming less dependent on the machine) – Our God hears our prayers- Thank you God.

He is getting physical therapy (PT) each day to help initiate movement in his arms and legs, which of course have lost their muscle since he has been immobile for such a long period of time. This will take some time and a lot of PT to get him built up again. The PT takes a lot of energy and saps his strength. Since Fr. Nigel is still not able to talk because of the ventilator, he is quite frustrated when trying to get a point across. So please pray for his patience with that and with his inability to move his arms or legs on his own. I find that imagining what that must be like helps in my prayers.

Please pray for:

Immediate healing for his lungs so that he can be removed from the ventilator

Stamina and strength so that Fr. Nigel can start to rebuild his muscles

God’s Peace to ward off frustration

Fr. Nigel to focus on Christ and His healing touch

Blessings to you all for your perseverance in prayer! Our Lord is listening- Thanks and Praise to our Lord!

Matthew 17:14-21

November 17, 2009

And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to him, kneeling down to him and saying, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. So I brought him to your disciples, but they could not cure him.” (Matthew 17:14-16)
Lord Jesus, you know the weakness of our ministry. Move in our hearts so that we can minister the healing you desire for your people.

Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to me.” (Matthew 17:17)
Jesus, we ask you to stick with us as long as it takes for us to get it right. Continue to teach and guide us by your Holy Spirit.

And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. (Matthew 17:18 )
Jesus, in your name and in the power of your name we rebuke whatever is attacking Fr. Nigel and we command that it leave him. Heal him and restore him to full health.

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” (Matthew 17:19)
Holy Spirit, please help all of us who minister in this diocese come to you for your guidance in how to minister.

So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20)
Father, please bring us all to this level of faith and belief.

“However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” (Matthew 17:21)
Father, bring us all to an active life of prayer and fasting.

A word received at Christ Church Schenectady (11/15/09): What are you doing? Are you seeking me? Are you worshipping me? Check yourself. Ask yourself — Am I seeking the Lord? Am I worshipping my God? Listen to me; hear me; then do what I say. Don’t just hear me — do what I tell you to do. Then you will be seeking and worshipping me.

A word received: I love you.

Nigel’s lungs

November 17, 2009

Our Father in heaven,
You have set the earth on its foundations, and You have numbered the hairs on Nigel’s head. Holy is Your name. You are sovereign over all the earth and all that is therein. You are sovereign over Nigel’s lungs.

O Jesus,
Like the four friends who carried the paralytic to You on a mat, as intercessors from the four corners of the earth, we lift up Nigel to You in faith. Take pity and forgive us our sins (name them) and any unconfessed sins of Nigel.
If the immune cells and immune pathways responsible for clearing up the inflammation in Nigel’s lungs are paralyzed, release and restore them to wholeness, we pray.

Holy Spirit,
Continue to hover over Nigel’s lungs. Redeem the time. Orchestrate the resolution of the pneumonia in such a way that scarring is avoided. Bring order to his pulmonary parenchyma. Amen.
