***** The Christ Church Sunday School lesson for this coming Sunday has been posted on http://christchurchsundayschool.blogspot.com/.

Words received for a Sunday School lesson in December:

“Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’” (John 20:19) A word received: Pray for my peace. Let my love come into your heart. My love casts out fear. (James 4:19)

“When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.” (John 20:20) A word received: I want you to experience their joy in seeing me.

“So Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace to you! As the Father has sent me, I also send you.’” (John 20:21) A word received: Go forth in my peace. It is not the peace that the world gives; it is the peace that flows out of my relationship with my father.

“And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’” (John 20:22) A word received: This is the way to my peace — to have my Holy Spirit in your heart.

“‘If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’” (John 20:23) A word received: My peace should lead you to forgive others. As you have received my love and peace and forgiveness, let others receive your love and peace and forgiveness.

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.” (Isaiah 9:2) A word received: I want my light to shine forth so that men and women and children will know my peace.

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder. and his name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) A word received: I came as a child. I came without strength or position, but I came with peace that drew people to my father. Pray for my peace to shine forth in your lives.

Spiritual warfare for Nigel

November 19, 2009

I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. Luke 10:19

Dear Jesus,
We claim the authority that You have granted us for the establishment of Your kingdom on earth. We claim the authority to trample any snakes and scorpions, young lions and adders of the spirit realm that have gained access to Nigel’s spirit, soul, and body. We crush them underfoot.
Dear Jesus, how we love You. How gracious You are to give us this authority. If, through our sinfulness or our ignorance, we have not fully appropriated this precious gift, we humbly ask You to do it. We invite You to visit Nigel and to trample the snakes, scorpions, young lions, and adders.
Render null and void any curses, hexes, or spells that have been sent against Nigel. Anoint him with Your Holy Spirit. Jesus, if persons engaged in the occult have sent curses, hexes, or spells against Nigel, bless them, each and every one.
In Your name, dear Lord, we speak, Healing! Healing! Healing!

Fr. Nigel Update 3:33PM

November 18, 2009

Update on Fr. Nigel 3:33 PM

Wednesday 11/18/09

Fr. Nigel Mumford continues to be in the ICU and he continues to be stable. He is still on the ventilator but a part of the breathing is on his own now while the machine is doing some. That is a wonderful step forward – thank you Lord for answering our prayers.

He is having Physical Therapy (PT) each day and he is getting better in that area also – nothing major but still it’s progress in the right direction. The PT is extremely wearing on him and he gets exhausted from trying to lift his arms and legs, so prayer for that would be welcome. Fr. Nigel has been in the hospital for 40 days. That’s long enough. Let’s pray him out of there!

Please pray for:

Full healing of his lungs so that he can come off the ventilator [I can hardly wait to send out that email!]

Strength and stamina so that he can build up his muscles so that he can leave the hospital [I can’t wait to send that email also!]

Give Praise and Thanksgiving to our Lord for the healing and the protection of Fr. Nigel that has taken place so far, and that will take place

Strength and comfort for Lynn and for all the Mumford family

Your prayers are a comfort to Fr. Nigel and Lynn. Please keep them coming. Bless you all for your faithfulness to our Lord.

Malachai 1:6-11

November 18, 2009

It is apparent to a number of our intercessors that there are serious spiritual warfare issues in Fr. Nigel’s prolonged illness. Fr. Nigel’s ministry has taken him onto many battlefields with “principalities and powers”. Because of this I ask you to pray this blessing adapted from the Anglican Christian community in Ceylon, Pakistan, and India:
May the Name of Jesus, the Son of God, who is mightier than all the hosts of Satan, and more glorious than all the angels of heaven, abide with Nigel in his going out and his coming in; by day and by night; at morning and at evening; at all times and in all places.
May the Name of Jesus, the Son of God, protect and deliver Nigel from the wrath of evil persons; from the assaults of evil spirits; from foes invisible; from the snares of the Evil One; and from all low passions that beguile the soul and body.
May the Name of Jesus protect and deliver Nigel.
And the blessing of God Almighty, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be with Nigel this day and always. Amen.

“A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am the father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my reverence? Says the LORD of hosts to you priests who despise my name. Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised your name?’” (Malachi 1:6)
Father, please help us honor and reverence you. Please bring all the clergy of this diocese into a right relationship with you.

“You offer defiled food on my altar, but say, ‘In what way have we defiled you?’ By saying, ‘The table of the LORD is contemptible.’” (Malachi 1:7)
Jesus, please bring us all to a holy awe of your table and your sacrifice.

“And when you offer the blind as a sacrifice, is it not evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? Offer it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you favorably?” says the LORD of hosts. (Malachi 1:8 )
Holy Spirit, please help us daily offer the sacrifice of thanksgiving and obedience.

“But now entreat God’s favor, that he may be gracious to us. While this is being done by your hands, will he accept you favorably?” Says the LORD of hosts. (Malachi 1:9)
Father, help us daily seek your favor; be gracious to us and lead us in your ways.

“Who is there even among you who would shut the doors, so that you would not kindle fire on my altar in vain? I have no pleasure in you,” Says the LORD of hosts, “Nor will I accept an offering from your hands.” (Malachi 1:10)
Father, please help us come to you with clean hands and pure hearts.

“For from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, my name shall be great among the Gentiles; In every place incense shall be offered to my name, and a pure offering; for my name shall be great among the nations,” says the LORD of hosts. (Malachi 1:11)
LORD, thank you for making your name great to us.

Fr. Nigel Update 9:51 AM

November 17, 2009

Subject: Update on Fr. Nigel 9:51 AM

Tuesday 11/17/09

Fr. Nigel Mumford continues to be in critical condition but he also continues to be stable. Although there are only a few of his family and clergy who are able to visit Fr. Nigel because he is still in ICU and he is “isolated” to prevent any further infection, he recognizes them readily.

His oxygen numbers are slowly being reduced (which means he is becoming less dependent on the machine) – Our God hears our prayers- Thank you God.

He is getting physical therapy (PT) each day to help initiate movement in his arms and legs, which of course have lost their muscle since he has been immobile for such a long period of time. This will take some time and a lot of PT to get him built up again. The PT takes a lot of energy and saps his strength. Since Fr. Nigel is still not able to talk because of the ventilator, he is quite frustrated when trying to get a point across. So please pray for his patience with that and with his inability to move his arms or legs on his own. I find that imagining what that must be like helps in my prayers.

Please pray for:

Immediate healing for his lungs so that he can be removed from the ventilator

Stamina and strength so that Fr. Nigel can start to rebuild his muscles

God’s Peace to ward off frustration

Fr. Nigel to focus on Christ and His healing touch

Blessings to you all for your perseverance in prayer! Our Lord is listening- Thanks and Praise to our Lord!

Matthew 17:14-21

November 17, 2009

And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to him, kneeling down to him and saying, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. So I brought him to your disciples, but they could not cure him.” (Matthew 17:14-16)
Lord Jesus, you know the weakness of our ministry. Move in our hearts so that we can minister the healing you desire for your people.

Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to me.” (Matthew 17:17)
Jesus, we ask you to stick with us as long as it takes for us to get it right. Continue to teach and guide us by your Holy Spirit.

And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. (Matthew 17:18 )
Jesus, in your name and in the power of your name we rebuke whatever is attacking Fr. Nigel and we command that it leave him. Heal him and restore him to full health.

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” (Matthew 17:19)
Holy Spirit, please help all of us who minister in this diocese come to you for your guidance in how to minister.

So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20)
Father, please bring us all to this level of faith and belief.

“However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” (Matthew 17:21)
Father, bring us all to an active life of prayer and fasting.

A word received at Christ Church Schenectady (11/15/09): What are you doing? Are you seeking me? Are you worshipping me? Check yourself. Ask yourself — Am I seeking the Lord? Am I worshipping my God? Listen to me; hear me; then do what I say. Don’t just hear me — do what I tell you to do. Then you will be seeking and worshipping me.

A word received: I love you.

Nigel’s lungs

November 17, 2009

Our Father in heaven,
You have set the earth on its foundations, and You have numbered the hairs on Nigel’s head. Holy is Your name. You are sovereign over all the earth and all that is therein. You are sovereign over Nigel’s lungs.

O Jesus,
Like the four friends who carried the paralytic to You on a mat, as intercessors from the four corners of the earth, we lift up Nigel to You in faith. Take pity and forgive us our sins (name them) and any unconfessed sins of Nigel.
If the immune cells and immune pathways responsible for clearing up the inflammation in Nigel’s lungs are paralyzed, release and restore them to wholeness, we pray.

Holy Spirit,
Continue to hover over Nigel’s lungs. Redeem the time. Orchestrate the resolution of the pneumonia in such a way that scarring is avoided. Bring order to his pulmonary parenchyma. Amen.

For Nigel’s lungs

November 16, 2009

Creator God,
You are enthroned on praise. We praise the delicate beauty of the created order of Nigel’s lungs. We extol the beauty of the airways branching like a tree–the trachea, the bronchi, the bronchioles, and the alveoli. We praise the delicate interface of the capillaries and the airspaces and the intricacies of exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide.
We praise You, Lord. Nigel’s lungs are fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works.

O Jesus, You are the Lion of the tribe of Judah. If there are any organisms that inhabit Nigel’s lungs, devour them now.

O Holy Spirit, Breath of Life, hover over Nigel’s lungs. You covered Nigel in his mother’s womb. Cover him now. If there are any dysfunctional immune responses that are contributing to his illness, bring order out of the chaos. Cleanse and purify his airways. We pray that the rhythmical sweeping motion of the cilia will move the mucus and debris out of his lungs. May the movement of the cilia throughout his airways be like a celebration, a dance of joy. Amen.

Monday 11/16/09

Fr. Nigel Mumford is stable- thank you LORD! — but he continues on the critical list because he is still on the ventilator. He is receiving brief sessions of physical therapy to help him regain use of his arms and legs and his general mobility. He is unable to communicate, so that is extremely frustrating for him, so please keep that in your prayers.

*      Please pray for healing and rejuvenation of his lungs so that he can be removed from the ventilator.

*      Please pray for the sedation to leave his muscles and tissues so that he can regain use of his body.

*      Please pray for God’s peace to be with Fr. Nigel as he struggles to understand his situation.

*      Please pray for strength for Lynn as she travels this long road.

*      We praise you and thank you Lord for the immense healing that has taken place and for the healing that will take place. May Your Will be done.

*      The following is a message from Fr. Nigel’s parents in England:

If somehow there is a chance of you saying an ENORMOUSE Thank you from David and me and our family and so many concerned friends over here for their devotion to prayer. We are absolutely sure that every word is used and put into action by The Father, through His Son Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit. and that none of this suffering will be wasted, but when it is handed back to Him He will recycle it to His greater Glory… with very much love and thanks, David and Jean.

*      Blessings on all of you for your continued prayers. Fr. Nigel continues to need them and will need them for the long recovery ahead.

Day of judgment

November 16, 2009

Revelation 20:12-15
And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

May God have mercy on us all.

Psalm 89:1-4

November 16, 2009

I will sing of the mercies of the lord forever; with my mouth will I make known your faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 89:1)
Father, please help us daily speak of your faithfulness.

For I have said, “Mercy shall be built up forever; your faithfulness you shall establish in the very heavens.” (Psalm 89:2)
Jesus, establish your faithfulness in our hearts.

“I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn to my servant David:” (Psalm 89:3)
Holy Spirit, please help us fully enter into this covenant life.

“‘Your seed I will establish forever, and build up your throne to all generations.’” (Psalm 89:4)
LORD, establish your throne in our hearts.

Sunday 11/15/09
Fr. Nigel Mumford continues on the critical list but he is stable, which is a huge blessing. The ups and downs of the past 37 days have been a bit of a rollercoaster ride, so the stability of the past week or so is truly a blessing. His ventilator settings have been reduced a smidgeon, so that is heading in the right direction in order to get him off of the ventilator. Thank you Lord for the healing that is taking place.

*      Please continue your prayers for a rejuvenation of his lungs that they may be healed so that he may be removed from the ventilator.

*      Please give Praise and Thanksgiving to our Lord who hears our prayers and answers them and that His will may be done.

The Mumfords have sent a message that they would like to pass on to all of you faithful in your prayers:
“If somehow there is a chance of you saying an ENORMOUSE Thank you from David and I and our family and so many concerned friends over here for their devotion to prayer. We are absolutely sure that every word is used and put into action by The Father, through His Son Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit. and that none of this suffering will be wasted, but when it is handed back to Him He will recycle it to His greater Glory… with very much love and thanks, David and Jean.”

Blood shed in the Mohawk valley

November 15, 2009

Dear Heavenly Father,
How beautiful is Your creation in the Mohawk valley. How we have sinned by spilling blood throughout this valley. Forgive us our sins. Forgive the sins of our Native American, Dutch, French, British, and American ancestors who shed blood in multiple wars. Forgive our sins–the blood shed in violence and in abortion. Have mercy, Lord. Have mercy.
May every site in this valley where blood spilt in hate cries out be planted with seeds of love. Open portals for Your angels to ascend and
descend at these sites. Love! Love! Love! We speak a sowing of love throughout the Mohawk valley. Amen.

Mark 13:14-23

November 15, 2009

“So when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not” (let the reader understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.” (Mark 13:14)
Holy Spirit, please help us recognize the signs of the times we are in.

“Let him who is on the housetop not go down into the house, nor enter to take anything out of his house.” (Mark 13:15)
Holy Spirit, please help us leave behind anything that would ensnare us.

“And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.” (Mark 13:16)
Lord Jesus, no possession is as important as our lives. Please help us have a right perspective on things.

“But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!” (Mark 13:17)
Jesus, have mercy on all refugees, especially pregnant women and nursing mothers.

“And pray that your flight may not be in winter.” (Mark 13:18 )
Father, we pray that the time of destruction will not come upon us, but if it does come, that you will give us strength by your Holy Spirit to endure.

“For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be.” (Mark 13:19)
Jesus, you have warned us of times of tribulation and we are still surprised by them.

“And unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake, whom He chose, He shortened the days.” (Mark 13:20)
Father, please shorten the days of our times of tribulation.

“Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘Look, He is there!’ do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” (Mark 13:21-22)
Jesus, many false prophets and teachers have risen up both inside and outside your church; have mercy on us and help us walk only in your ways.

“But take heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand.” (Mark 13:23)
Jesus, please help us take heed of your warnings. Thank you.

Lord, my times are in your hand; you are the stability of my times. You are my hiding place; you are my refuge, and underneath are your everlasting arms. Thank you. (Ps 31:15, Is 33:6, Ps 32:7, Dt 33:27)

Prayer Table reports from Schenectady and Lake Luzerne–please pray for these people!

November 14, 2009

Christ Church Schenectady Prayer Table Report November 14, 9:25-10:30 AM Torre Bissell and Don Foust
+–indicates received wooden cross made by Dennis Adams of North Carolina.

It rained constantly during this Saturday. Sometimes the rain was so hard, that it was difficult to hear the prayer requests. Yet people still came in search of prayer. Many people who stopped were not seeking prayers for themselves, but for others. We are always amazed at the tremendous need and the tremendous faith of the residents of Hamilton Hill.

The Prayer Table has become a regular stop for a number of folks in the Neighborhood, and we have added their names to the bottom of the Prayer Table Report.

Jim–regular–”I am doing well”. We thanked God for the change in Jim’s life and prayed for continual healing of Jim’s memories.

Steve–Wants to re-establish his driver’s license in order to obtain a new job; however because of a past accident, he must pay restitution for damages. In is a considerable sum of money for Steve to re-pay. Steve does not know what to do. We prayed for God’s intervention and guidance.

+Gwendolyn–This young woman recently had a miscarriage. Her baby was no be named Margaritte. We prayed for peace in her life and that she would have other children.

+Roxanne–repeat visitor–We prayed for her personal safety and the safety of her family.

+Donald–”I am a believer”. Donald hung up his cell phone in mid-conversion so that he could obtain prayer. We prayed for guidance in his life.

+Michael–young man–We prayed for healing. Michael is having difficulty breathing.

+Winnette–”Pray for my sister “Munch“. She is incarcerated and just went into a diabetic coma. We prayed for healing for Munch and thanked God for family members like Winnette who care for their siblings. We gave her a Bible. Pray for continuing strength in Winnette’s life.

+Joy–We prayed for protection.

+John–older gentleman–”Pray for peace. So many are losing their lives trying to keep the peace”. We prayed for peace in Iraq, Afghanistan, as well as on the streets of Schenectady.

David– repeat visitor–on his way to services at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Swan Street. We thanked God for David’s witnessing to others. David came back and said he would try to attend the 8:00 am service at Christ Church.

+Iris–middle-aged woman–As Deacon Alan Hart would say, “there is always one person who really gets to you“. Today that person was Iris. When asked if she needed prayer, Iris responded, “O Lord, YES”. She is raising 8 grandchildren and she has no husband. Four of the children are teen-agers. Iris was totally drained. She goes to Church nearly every day. We prayed for strength and provision for today. We also thanked God for women like Iris who will shoulder the burden of carrying for the relatives. We suggested that she pray for God’s strength “one day at a time”. During our time together, Iris was weeping. Please pray for Iris. She is in constant need of God’s strength. Pray also that her grandchildren would have hearts of obedience and would turn to God.

William– young man–opened his shirt to show he was wearing a Dennis Adams wooden cross. Said he had stopped by the Prayer Table on Wednesday. We prayed for continual blessings in his life.

+Judy– older woman– We prayed for health. Judy wanted to know if there were still AA meetings at Christ Church. We suggested she call the Church office for details.

+Sharon– young woman. We prayed for guidance and protection in Sharon’s life. After leaving the Prayer Table, a car stopped and Sharon got in. Please pray for a change in Sharon’s life “on the street”.

a–indicates anointed with Holy Oil.
t– indicates received wooden cross made by Dennis Adams of North Carolina.

(Note: This Prayer Table was held 45 minutes before our weekly Community Luncheon. It is the 5th or 6th Table we have hosted here in the past few months. There was light, steady rain today but it dod not prevent people from coming to His table for prayer.)

t–EDITH — She sought prayer for continued good health for herself and her family, and for our country to remain strong and under His watchful eyes.

t–SHARON — This woman, a repeat visitor to the Table, asked for prayer that she will be able to sell her property and move to another location in the Luzerne-Hadley-Corinth area. She, too, wanted prayer for continued good health.

t,t — CATHY and ALEXIS — Cathy, and adult, asked for prayer for the smooth transition of the sale of her house to a new home. Alexis, a delightful young schoolgirl, did not ask for prayer, but we prayed that she will come to know and love the Lord in a new, wonderful way and realize that God loves her sooooo much!

t,a — DAVITA — This bright, happy girl of perhaps 9 or 10 years old, came to the table by herself (she lives nearby) and smiled and came RIGHT over to the Table at the height of the rainstorm! She wanted prayer ” … just that everything will keep going so well.” We prayed that she would continue to do well in her schoolwork and that her family will have good health.

t–ANGIE — She is another repeat visitor. She continued to seek prayer for her husband DENNIS, who has been ill and needs prayer for return to good health. Angie, already wearing one of the wooden crosses, asked for a cross for Dennis.

t–MARY LOU — She asked for prayer and protection for her grandaughter, DODIE. Dodie has been ill and having trouble recovering from her illness.
