Blessings over Sudan

Excerpts from Numbers 23 and 24

Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, but you have done nothing but bless them!”

He answered, “Must I not speak what the LORD puts in my mouth?”

Christ, be in the mouth of all who speak of Sudan.

Then [Balaam] uttered his oracle: 
“Arise, Balak, and listen; hear me, son of Zippor.  God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind.  Does he speak and then not act?  Does he promise and not fulfill? I have received a command to bless;  he has blessed, and I cannot change it.  . . .  The LORD their God is with them;  the shout of the King is among them.

Father, may Your shout be among Your children in Sudan.  Indeed, may all the earth shout for joy to You.  Raise up shouts that resound through the heavens over Sudan.

When Balaam looked out and saw Israel encamped tribe by tribe, the Spirit of God came upon him and he uttered his oracle: ” . . . . May those who bless you be blessed and those who curse you be cursed!”

Holy Spirit, bless the intercessors for Sudan.  Vivify their spirits that their intercessions will be multiplied manifold. 

Triune God, we speak blessings to the enemies of Sudan because that is what Jesus taught us to do.  You know their needs far better than we.  Bless the Muslim government in Khartoum and the military.  Bless the international oil companies.  Bless the Chinese arms dealers.  Bless the janjawid.  Bless the Lord’s Resistance Army.  Bless the animists and the witch doctors.  Lord, bless all of the enemies of Your Sudanese children.  Bless them at their point of need.

We see through a glass darkly.  This land has known heartache for millenia.  It has suffered greatly by the rulers, the authorities, the powers of this dark world and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Devour these unseen forces in Sudan.  Amen.
