Matthew 9:9-13

As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And he said to him, “Follow me.” So he arose and followed him. (Matthew 9:9)
Jesus, thank you for making my life a daily adventure by following you. Thank you for asking me to follow you. Please give me steady footsteps as I do this.

Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. (Matthew 9:10)
Jesus, please let our home be a haven of peace and blessing for all who come here.

And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” (Matthew 9:11)
Father, please help us keep our home as a place of welcome to the lost and the least.

When Jesus heard that, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” (Matthew 9:12-13)
Holy Spirit, thank you for helping us answer Jesus’ call.

Thank you, Father, for giving me Jean as my wife to help me each day answer Jesus’ call. Thank you for the blessing of these 46 years!
