While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear him!” (Matthew 17:5)
Father, please help us hear Jesus.

Holy Spirit, please give us listening hearts and listening ears to hear Jesus.

Jesus, please speak to us — help us hear what you are saying.

A word received: Keep listening. Keep listening for my word.

Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. (Acts 13:1)
LORD, raise up prophets and teachers in the Diocese of Albany and the Diocese of Down and Dromore. Let them be named among us.

As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” (Acts 13:2)
Jesus, please help us minister to you by worship and fasting. Separate out among us men and women and youths for the work to which you have called them.

Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away. (Acts 13:3)
Holy Spirit, please restore to our common life throughout these dioceses fasting and prayer and laying on of hands to initiate ministry.

So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. (Acts 13:4)
      Holy Spirit, send us out.

And when they arrived in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They also had John as their assistant. (Acts 13:5)
Father, as we go forth at your bidding, help us preach the word.

Now when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus, (Acts 13:6)
Jesus, please help us recognize false prophets and sorcerers for what they are.

who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. (Acts 13:7)
Father, please help us respond to everyone who seeks to hear your word.

But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. (Acts 13:8 )
Holy Spirit, please show us how to defeat every attempt to turn people away from the faith.

Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him (Acts 13:9)
Fill us anew, Holy Spirit, as you filled Paul. So transform our lives that we are worthy of a new name in Christ.

and said, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?” (Acts 13:10)
Jesus, please stop all those who pervert your straight ways.

“And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.” And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand. (Acts 13:11)
Help us see your hand at work, Jesus. Help people recognize the darkness they are walking in.

Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord. (Acts 13:12)
Father, we pray that those who see Jesus’ works will believe in him.

LORD, raise up intercessors in our two dioceses.

      Notes from the Front Line

***** Your prayers that the Lord would visit the Diocesan Convention were answered! There was anointed worship and preaching, healing and wonder and awe at what God was doing in our midst. What I personally took away from the Diocesan Convention: When the Holy Spirit prompts you to do something — to minister to someone: do it. Start that ministry up as quickly as you are able. You will find that Jesus is even more faithful than you ever imagined. Take up the cross and follow Jesus immediately. It doesn’t matter if anyone else hears the call, God will raise up companions along the way as you follow Jesus. That is what I heard at the Diocesan Convention from witnesses from Ireland and this diocese. [Obviously, discernment is needed in all this.] Torre
