Israel

June 15, 2010

Romans 9:4-5
. . . the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption as sons; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.

Father,
We thank You for allowing us to be grafted on to the covenants and promises of Israel, Your chosen people. We thank You for the means of grace and the hope of glory through the sacrifice of Your Son. We pray for the peace of Jerusalem. We pray for the peace of Your chosen people. We pray for the peace of Israel. Amen.

College students

June 14, 2010

Father,
I am tired of watching young people who are brought up by faithful parents go off to college and lose their faith. I am asking for the opposite. I am asking that our college campuses undergo a religious revival. I am asking that those faculty members who attempt to destroy the faith of their students have a change of heart or a change of career. I am asking that the cloud of Your presence cover these campuses, that the Holy Spirit spread like fire, and that the hearts of the young people be marked by obedience. I am asking that young people who are not brought up in the faith undergo conversion when they go to college.
Come to our colleges, Lord Jesus. Come. Amen.
Numbers 9:15-23

Psalm 107:1-9

June 14, 2010

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, * and his mercy endures for ever. (Psalm 107:1)
Thank you, LORD, for your enduring mercy.

Let all those whom the LORD has redeemed proclaim * that he redeemed them from the hand of the foe. (Psalm 107:2)
Holy Spirit, please help us proclaim what you have done for us.

He gathered them out of the lands; * from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. (Psalm 107:3)
Father, thank you for the great gathering at the Diocesan Convention: you gathered us from all parts of this diocese, from Ireland, from Peru, and from the Caribbean. Thank you.

Some wandered in desert wastes; * they found no way to a city where they might dwell. (Psalm 107:4)
Jesus, we pray for our brothers and sisters who are wandering in desert wastes: bring them back!

They were hungry and thirsty; * their spirits languished within them. (Psalm 107:5)
Holy Spirit, come and renew them: once again make streams of living water flow in the desert places.

Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, * and he delivered them from their distress. (Psalm 107:6)
Thank you, Jesus, for hearing us when we cry out to you.

He put their feet on a straight path * to go to a city where they might dwell. (Psalm 107:7)
Thank you, LORD, for putting our feet on the straight and narrow path that leads to your city, the City of God.

Let them give thanks to the LORD for his mercy * and the wonders he does for his children. (Psalm 107:8 )
Thank you, LORD, for your mercy and the wonders you did for your children at the Diocesan Convention.

For he satisfies the thirsty * and fills the hungry with good things. (Psalm 107:9)
Thank you, Jesus, for giving drink to the thirsty and filling the hungry with good things.

Matthew 17:5 and Acts 13:1-12

June 13, 2010

A word received: I AM. I AM with you.

6/12/10
While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear him!” (Matthew 17:5)
Father, please help us hear Jesus.

Holy Spirit, please give us listening hearts and listening ears to hear Jesus.

Jesus, please speak to us — help us hear what you are saying.

A word received: Keep listening. Keep listening for my word.

6/13/10
Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. (Acts 13:1)
LORD, raise up prophets and teachers in the Diocese of Albany and the Diocese of Down and Dromore. Let them be named among us.

As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” (Acts 13:2)
Jesus, please help us minister to you by worship and fasting. Separate out among us men and women and youths for the work to which you have called them.

Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away. (Acts 13:3)
Holy Spirit, please restore to our common life throughout these dioceses fasting and prayer and laying on of hands to initiate ministry.

So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. (Acts 13:4)
      Holy Spirit, send us out.

And when they arrived in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They also had John as their assistant. (Acts 13:5)
Father, as we go forth at your bidding, help us preach the word.

Now when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus, (Acts 13:6)
Jesus, please help us recognize false prophets and sorcerers for what they are.

who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. (Acts 13:7)
Father, please help us respond to everyone who seeks to hear your word.

But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. (Acts 13:8 )
Holy Spirit, please show us how to defeat every attempt to turn people away from the faith.

Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him (Acts 13:9)
Fill us anew, Holy Spirit, as you filled Paul. So transform our lives that we are worthy of a new name in Christ.

and said, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?” (Acts 13:10)
Jesus, please stop all those who pervert your straight ways.

“And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.” And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand. (Acts 13:11)
Help us see your hand at work, Jesus. Help people recognize the darkness they are walking in.

Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord. (Acts 13:12)
Father, we pray that those who see Jesus’ works will believe in him.

A word received: Pray for a spirit of thanksgiving for all that I have done.

LORD, raise up intercessors in our two dioceses.

Sunday: 34; Num. 6:22-27; Acts 13:1-12; Luke 12:41-48
Monday: 77, [79]; Num. 9:15-23, 10:29-36; Romans 1:1-15; Matthew 17:14-21

      Notes from the Front Line

***** Your prayers that the Lord would visit the Diocesan Convention were answered! There was anointed worship and preaching, healing and wonder and awe at what God was doing in our midst. What I personally took away from the Diocesan Convention: When the Holy Spirit prompts you to do something — to minister to someone: do it. Start that ministry up as quickly as you are able. You will find that Jesus is even more faithful than you ever imagined. Take up the cross and follow Jesus immediately. It doesn’t matter if anyone else hears the call, God will raise up companions along the way as you follow Jesus. That is what I heard at the Diocesan Convention from witnesses from Ireland and this diocese. [Obviously, discernment is needed in all this.] Torre

The Holy Spirit, two angels, and four intercessors

June 13, 2010

Many thanks to Georgia for her input. My parish is currently putting together several intercessory prayer teams of four.

Exodus 25:17-22 (New International Version)
“Make an atonement cover of pure gold—two and a half cubits long and a cubit and a half wide. And make two cherubim out of hammered gold at the ends of the cover. Make one cherub on one end and the second cherub on the other; make the cherubim of one piece with the cover, at the two ends. The cherubim are to have their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover with them. The cherubim are to face each other, looking toward the cover. Place the cover on top of the ark and put in the ark the Testimony, which I will give you. There, above the cover between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the Testimony, I will meet with you and give you all my commands for the Israelites.

The ark of the covenant held the Ten Commandments, a golden bowl of manna, and the flowering almond branch of Aaron. It was carried by four priests holding two poles that were inserted in four rings on the sides of the chest.
The deceased son of the widow of Nain was carried by four pallbearers holding two poles projecting at each end from the corners of the bier (Luke 7:11-18). The paralytic was carried by four friends, presumably on a stretcher (Mark 2:1-12).
All three were adjacent to a narrow place: the slit in the veil that separated the Holy of Holies from the Holy; the gate of Nain; and the hole in the roof.
When the concealed ark was moved in the wilderness, we do not know which priests carried it. All three–the ark, the bier, and the paralytic’s mat–were carried by four people who are anonymous.
All three involve a confrontation between good and evil. The high priest would enter the Holy of Holies once a year to sprinkle the blood of atonement–iniquity vs holiness. The funeral party ran into Jesus and His companions–death vs life. The Pharisees were listening to Jesus when the men made a hole in the roof–hardness of heart vs faith.
I believe this is a model for evangelism and healing–the Holy Spirit, two angels, and four intercessors.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Just as incense was continually offered before the opening in the veiled covering of the Holy of Holies, we offer our prayers for (name). Just as Moses encountered You at the mercy seat covered with gold, we cry out for (name) to encounter Jesus in a place of mercy, covered with the blood of the Lamb.
Underneath the mercy seat were the symbols of Your covenant, Your provision, and Your priestly office. We claim the blood of Jesus over (name), the word of God for (him/her), and the outward and visible signs of Your inward, invisible grace in (his/her) life.
We ask You to commission a holy angel to assist in bringing to order (name)’s spirit and soul, including the beliefs, motives, appetites, and will. Bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. We ask You to commission a second angel to assist in bringing (his/her) body into alignment with Your government, guiding (his/her) works and footsteps.
Father, we seek Your superior wisdom and ask You to guide us to the particular scriptures You wish us to pray for (him/her) in each season. You know (his/her) needs far better than we; bless (him/her). We surrender (name) to You and trust in Your ways, Your thoughts, and Your timing. We give You praise, thanksgiving, and glory for all that You will do in (name)’s life. Amen.

Alabama

June 13, 2010

Alabama does not have an official nickname. It is commonly referred to as “the Heart of Dixie.”

John 17:17 (New Living Translation)
Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.

May “the Heart of Dixie” be a pure heart, we pray.

From the constitution:

Section 1:
That all men are equally free and independent; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

“Audemus jura nostra defendere” has been translated as: “We Dare Maintain Our Rights” or “We Dare Defend Our Rights.” This Latin motto is on the state coat of arms.

O Lord, may the people of Alabama seek their life, liberty and pursuit of happiness in You. Amen.

The power of the Blood

June 12, 2010

Exodus 15:13 MSG
But the people you redeemed,
you led in merciful love;
You guided them under your protection
to your holy pasture.

O Lord,
How gracious You are. You have chosen to remain in covenant with me, a disobedient and rebellious soul.
The grace of the Blood.
You have redeemed me by the Blood of the covenant and granted me new life in Christ.
The freedom of the Blood.
You are rich in compassion. Guide me when I’m lost.
The mercy of the Blood.
Protect me when I’m weak. Bring me into Your holy habitation where I can hear Your voice and be fed by Your word.
The courage of the Blood.

Song of Solomon 4:16a KJV
Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out.

O Lord,
Cause the breath of life to enter into Nigel’s lungs. Blow through the garden of his spirit. Let the sweet smelling aroma of Your Son’s sacrifice flow, like pomegranates, pleasant fruits, camphire, spikenard, saffron, calamus, cinnamon, frankincense, myrrh, and aloes. Let the sweet smelling aroma of Your Son’s sacrifice flow through Nigel’s spirit, soul, and body. Let the sweet smelling aroma of Your Son’s sacrifice reclaim his lost pulmonary parenchyma.
Come, O Breath of Life. Come!
