Matthew 16:13-20

June 10, 2010

When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked his disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” (Matthew 16:13)
Father, please help us hear the question and give a clear answer about who Jesus is.

So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” (Matthew 16:14)
Holy Spirit, prepare our hearts to ignore what others say and be ready with our own answer.

He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:15-16)
Jesus, you are the Messiah promised by your father, you are the son of the living God.

Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 16:17)
Father, we pray for all in the Diocese of Albany and the Diocese of Down and Dromore that you will give each of us a fresh revelation of who Jesus is. Write this knowledge on our hearts by your Holy Spirit.

“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18 )
Holy Spirit, please help us to be rock-steady in Jesus.

“And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” (Matthew 16:19)
Lord Jesus, so much is bound up in our lives — there are so many places of bondage: set us free to loose on earth so that those things will be loosed in heaven. Help us get out of your way by letting you have charge of those things that have bound us in our lives. You have given us the keys to open the flood-gates of heaven: letting have charge of our lives. Jesus, once again I ask you to be Lord of my life.

Then he commanded his disciples that they should tell no one that he was Jesus the Christ. (Matthew 16:20)
Father, there is a time and a place for ever purpose under heaven: there is a time to keep silence and a time to speak. Please help us know and live out both times under the guidance of your Holy Spirit. Thank you.

Worshipful warriors

June 10, 2010

Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.
Clap your hands, you people. Clap your hands. Shout to God with loud songs of joy.
Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
Dance on the lion and the adder; trample the young lion and the serpent underfoot. Dance to the Lord!
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!
Amen.

State Motto: The Crossroads of America

Matthew 7:13-14 (New International Version)
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

O Lord, we pray that the state of Indiana and our nation, the United States of America, will find the road that leads to life. Amen.

Galatians 5:1-6

June 9, 2010

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1)
Jesus, please come and break our yokes of bondage and bring us into the freedom of the children of God.

Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. (Galatians 5:2)
Father, please help us learn that the deeds we do in the flesh should be the fruit of our life in Christ and not the basis for living in him.

And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law. (Galatians 5:3)
Holy Spirit, please help us repent of putting our confidence in the deeds of the flesh.

You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. (Galatians 5:4)
Jesus, we pray for all those who are estranged from you that you will nail to your cross everything that hinders their walk with you. Help them turn to you and find you mighty to save.

For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. (Galatians 5:5)
Jesus, no deed done or not done avails us, but faith working through love.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love. (Galatians 5:6)
Lord Jesus, help us answer your call to take up our cross and follow you by faith today. Thank you.

A word received: I long to refresh my people; I long for them to turn to me.

Subject: Personal Prayer request
My dear prayer warriors,
Thank you all again so very much for your prayers that saved my life. Keep praying dear souls… it works.
I do need some follow up prayers please:
      1) Please pray for the complete healing of my lungs, for the lining, for elasticity, that the scar tissue heals up.
      2) For physical stamina = NRG!
      3) For my muscles and tendons: that the low grade pain leave and that they are restored and strengthened by the Lord.
      4) That I may speak without running out of breath mid sentence!
      5) That I may speak boldly about what God is doing in the healing ministry today as I remind people that God is still very much in the business of healing, of this I have no doubt.
      6) I am still on part time 2 to 4 hrs a day… please pray that I may have the strength to return to full time ministry, and one day play the bag pipes again
      7) For the souls who died in combat I knew in the Royal Marines: David Allen, (NI) Jock,(Falklands) Derick Reed (NI, my drill instructor), One other in the Falklands killed by friendly fire, he forgot the password, and sadly I have forgotten his name.
For the wounded: Tom who lost both his legs and for Tim who was shot and wounded but lost his child when his wife found out that he had been shot, collateral damage! For all the souls lost in combat.
8 ) For revival of the healing ministry throughout the land.
Thank you so very much dear souls. I really do so appreciate your prayers. I do so cherish your prayers. Much love to you in Jesus name

Abram and the Anglican Communion

June 8, 2010

Genesis 12:8-9 NLT
After that, Abram traveled south and set up camp in the hill country, with Bethel to the west and Ai to the east. There he built another altar and dedicated it to the Lord, and he worshiped the Lord. Then Abram continued traveling south by stages toward the Negev.

Abram goes to Egypt where he fails to build an altar, lies, and gives his wife to Pharoah in order to save his skin. On leaving Egypt, he makes his way back to the last place he had directly encountered God.

Genesis 13:3-4 NLT
From the Negev, they continued traveling by stages toward Bethel, and they pitched their tents between Bethel and Ai, where they had camped before. This was the same place where Abram had built the altar, and there he worshiped the Lord again.

O Lord,
By stages, we in the Anglican Communion have strayed away from You. We have failed to honor You. We have forgotten Your promises to us. We have lied. We have broken covenants with one another. Take pity and, by stages, lead us back, we pray. Amen.

Miscellaneous intercessions from Psalm 68

June 8, 2010

Psalm 68:5, 6, 7-10, 11-13, 19, 20, 35

A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.
O Father, the pregnant woman without support from her unborn child’s father or her own family is like a widow. Defend her, we pray.

God sets the lonely in families, he leads forth the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.
Father, the spirit of slavery in Mississippi engendered a spirit of fatherlessness. Pour out a spirit of adoption upon the state of Mississippi and lead forth her families with singing.

When you went out before your people, O God, when you marched through the wasteland, the earth shook, the heavens poured down rain, before God, the One of Sinai, before God, the God of Israel. You gave abundant showers, O God; you refreshed your weary inheritance. Your people settled in it, and from your bounty, O God, you provided for the poor.
Father, so much of Sudan is a wasteland. The soil is not arable, and the water wells are scarce. March through Sudan, refresh Your weary children, and provide for them from Your bounty.

The Lord announced the word, and great was the company of those who proclaimed it: “Kings and armies flee in haste; in the camps men divide the plunder. Even while you sleep among the campfires, the wings of my dove are sheathed with silver, its feathers with shining gold.”
Lord, announce Your word over Sudan. May a great company, tens of thousands and thousands of thousands, proclaim it against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. May these evil forces flee in haste and the wings of Your holy angels be sheathed with silver and gold.

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death. You are awesome, O God, in your sanctuary; the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!

Psalm 68:4-6

June 8, 2010

Sing to God, sing praises to his name; extol him who rides on the clouds, by his name YAH, and rejoice before him. (Psalm 68:4)
Father, please help us rejoice before you and praise you.

A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy habitation. (Psalm 68:5)
Father, we pray for all those who have never known the love and affection of an earthly father that they will find in you the love they need to grow into healthy people.

God sets the solitary in families; he brings out those who are bound into prosperity; but the rebellious dwell in a dry land. (Psalm 68:6)
Father, please protect the life of the families in this diocese; pour out your love and Holy Spirit into the marriages and families of this diocese. Help us know the abundance of your love for us in your son Jesus. Thank you.

Matthew 15:21-28

June 7, 2010

Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. (Matthew 15:21)
Jesus, please come into our region and into our communities and parishes.

And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.” (Matthew 15:22)
Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David! The youth in our community are severely possessed by many demonic forces: drug use, unrestricted sex, bullying, loneliness, and suicides!

But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.” (Matthew 15:23)
Holy Spirit, help us endure when there is no apparent answer from Jesus — only silence.

But he answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” (Matthew 15:24)
Jesus, I was a lost sheep and not a Christian, and you found me. Thank you!

Then she came and worshiped him, saying, “Lord, help me!” (Matthew 15:25)
Father, please help me worship Jesus.

Jesus, Lord, help us; help our children.

But he answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” (Matthew 15:26-27)
Jesus, I don’t understand why you are saying this, but I’m with the woman: I’ll take whatever crumbs you send our way. I want everything you are willing to give me.

Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour. (Matthew 15:28 )
Lord, I don’t know if my cries to you are cries of faith, but I thank you for every answered cry and plea.

A word received: Pray for widows and orphans and those in foster care.
Pray for my redeeming work among them.
Pray for the children to find love and hope and care.

***** “GUIDE ME O THOU GREAT JEHOVAH- CENTRAL ISLIP CONCERT CHOIR” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oei9Hcp5W9U&feature=related

I was really struck by the first hymn at the Healing Service yesterday afternoon at the Spiritual Life Center: Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah. I had never noticed what a strong element of healing flows through this hymn. Take a good look at the words below, then listen to the hymn. Torre

1.      Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
      pilgrim through this barren land.
      I am weak, but thou art mighty;
hold me with thy powerful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
      feed me till I want no more;
feed me till I want no more.

2.      Open now the crystal fountain,
      whence the healing stream doth flow;
let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through.
      Strong deliverer, strong deliverer,
      be thou still my strength and shield;
be thou still my strength and shield.

3.      When I tread the verge of Jordan,
      bid my anxious fears subside;
death of death and hell’s destruction,
land me safe on Canaan’s side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises,
      I will ever give to thee;
I will ever give to thee.

A model of evangelism

June 6, 2010

Regarding the resurrection of the son of the widow of Nain (Luke 7:11-18):
My Bible footnotes indicate that the bier was a wooden frame, partly resembling a coffin and partly a hand-barrow. The dead were carried out on this with the feet bound, the body wrapped in grave clothes, and a shawl over the face. Four men carried it on thier shoulders by two poles projected at each end from the corners.
This was the first time I saw the parallel with the story of the hole in the roof (Mark 2:1-12). Each story involves someone immobilized who is carried to our Lord by four people. I believe this is a model for evangelism, i. e. an unsaved person being brought to salvation and new life by the prayers of four intercessors.
I would love to test this hypothesis. Any thoughts as to how to do this, leave in the comment thread.

Evangelism

June 6, 2010

Acts 10:22b-23 NIV
A holy angel told him to have you come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.” Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests.

Oh Lord, commission Your holy angels to help bring about the evangelization of my hometown. Good news! Good news! Good news to Yazoo! Amen.

Luke 7:11-17

June 6, 2010

Now it happened, the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and a large crowd. (Luke 7:11)
Jesus, please come into our city and bring your disciples with you.

And when he came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. (Luke 7:12)
Holy Spirit, please help us walk with and comfort all who mourn.

When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” (Luke 7:13)
Thank you, Jesus, for having compassion on us; help those who weep hear your words of comfort.

Then he came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” (Luke 7:14)
Jesus, please speak your life-giving word to us and to our congregation and community.

So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And he presented him to his mother. (Luke 7:15)
Father, thank you for showing us your compassion made visible in Jesus.

Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us”; and, “God has visited his people.” (Luke 7:16)
Father, please visit us with the healing touch of your son Jesus and the power of your Holy Spirit.

And this report about him went throughout all Judea and all the surrounding region. (Luke 7:17)
Jesus, please let all that you do among us be fully reported in the surrounding area. Thank you.

A word received: Look at my call: it is a call to prayer.

Almighty God, whose beloved Son willingly endured the agony and shame of the cross for our redemption: Give us courage to take up our cross and follow him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Of the Holy Cross
