Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved friend and fellow laborer, (Philemon 1)
Jesus, we pray for your faithful witnesses around the world who are prisoners because of their testimony. In the day of their trial give them your words to speak. Help them to be faithful to the end.
to the beloved Apphia, Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house: (Philemon )2
Holy Spirit, move through the house churches and home fellowships and make Jesus visible in the faces of those gathered there.
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Philemon 3)
Father, we ask for your grace and that more of the life of Jesus would be present and visible in us.
I thank my God, making mention of you always in my prayers, (Philemon 4)
Help us hold each other in prayer, Father; thank you for the opportunity to do this.
hearing of your love and faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints, (Philemon 5)
Holy Spirit, let your love for Jesus and our Father God be manifested in our relationships with each other.
that the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. (Philemon 6)
Jesus, please help us share our faith in you with others and acknowledge every good thing you have done for us.
For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed by you, brother. (Philemon 7)
Father, thank you for those refresh us by their joy in Jesus.
Therefore, though I might be very bold in Christ to command you what is fitting, (Philemon 8 )
Holy Spirit, please help us to be bold in urging one another to do what is fitting.
yet for love’s sake I rather appeal to you–being such a one as Paul, the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ– (Philemon 9)
Jesus, help us show forth your love as we appeal to one another to walk in your ways.
I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten while in my chains, who once was unprofitable to you, but now is profitable to you and to me. I am sending him back. You therefore receive him, that is, my own heart, whom I wished to keep with me, that on your behalf he might minister to me in my chains for the gospel. But without your consent I wanted to do nothing, that your good deed might not be by compulsion, as it were, but voluntary. For perhaps he departed for a while for this purpose, that you might receive him forever, no longer as a slave but more than a slave–a beloved brother, especially to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord. (Philemon 10-16)
Holy Spirit, help us to be specific in our prayers and words and deeds — help us follow Paul’s example of encouraging Philemon to be merciful to Onesimus. Help us recognize each other as brothers and sisters whatever our station in life.
If then you count me as a partner, receive him as you would me. But if he has wronged you or owes anything, put that on my account. I, Paul, am writing with my own hand. I will repay–not to mention to you that you owe me even your own self besides. (Philemon 17-19)
Jesus, please give us your love that lets us be vulnerable with one another as Paul made himself vulnerable.
Yes, brother, let me have joy from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in the Lord. (Philemon 20)
Jesus, refresh our hearts with your love and joy.
Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say. (Philemon 21)
Father, please help us go the extra mile for one another.
But, meanwhile, also prepare a guest room for me, for I trust that through your prayers I shall be granted to you. (Philemon 22)
Father, I want to live as Paul did — with hope and expectation through answered prayer.
Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you, as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow laborers. (Philemon 23-24)
Lord Jesus, thank you for our fellow laborers in the vineyard.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. (Philemon 25)
Lord Jesus Christ, let your grace be manifested our spirits and help us pour out that grace on one another. Amen.
A word received: Pray for hearts that are open to my work.
A word received: Pray for my word to take root in the hearts of my people.
