Rev. Kendall Harmon has requested prayers for the standing committee of the diocese of South Carolina, which is meeting today. The names of the committee members can be found here. I don’t know what is on the agenda. Simply ask God to prepare their hearts for His good work.

Jehovah-jireh, we trust in the provision of Your spiritual and material bounty for this precious diocese. Amen.

John 11:17-29

September 9, 2010

So when Jesus came, he found that he had already been in the tomb four days. Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles away. And many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother. Now Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him, but Mary was sitting in the house. Now Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.” (John 11:17-21)
Lord, come and be present here and bring new life to the dead and dying — bring your new life to dead and dying parishes.

“But even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.” (John 11:22)
Jesus, ask your father for new life in the Diocese of Albany, the Diocese of Down and Dromore, and the Diocese of Peru.

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” (John 11:23)
Holy Spirit, help us receive this good news for our families, friends, and parishes.

Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” (John 11:24)
The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms; (Deuteronomy 33:27a) Jesus, ask your father for new life in the Diocese of Albany, the Diocese of Down and Dromore, and the Diocese of Peru.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26)
      Jesus, I believe this.

She said to him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” (John 11:27)
Jesus, thank you for breaking into my life.

And when she had said these things, she went her way and secretly called Mary her sister, saying, “The Teacher has come and is calling for you.” (John 11:28 )
Father, help each of us hear and respond to Jesus’ call.

As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly and came to him. (John 11:29)
Holy Spirit, help us respond quickly whenever Jesus calls us. Thank you.

Rosh Hashanah

September 9, 2010

Rosh Hashanah (New Year, a holy day in the Hebraic calendar) was celebrated in Old Testament times with 100 trumpet blasts. The ten days between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement –9/17-9/18) are called the “Days of Awe,” when one considers his sins before God and enters into a period of repentance, asking forgiveness from God and those one has harmed, and of restitution. (See Lev.23: 23-25, Nu. 10:9-14, 1 cor. 15: 52, I Thes.416-17, Rev.10:7,11:15.)

Psalm 32:6-9 (New Living Translation)
Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time, that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment. For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory.
Interlude
The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”

Father of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
In this first day of a new year in the Hebraic calendar, we humbly ask for Your protection and guidance throughout the year. Amen.

As a bird

September 8, 2010

Psalm 11:1a (King James Version)
In the LORD put I my trust.

Father,
After the Israelites built the golden calf, Moses went yet again to Your holy mountain and received Your law. How many times have I been disobedient, placing my own thoughts, my own ways, my own inclinations higher than Yours? Forgive me, Lord. I fly as a bird straight to Your arms. Write Your way, Your truth, Your life upon my heart. I want to be Your child. Amen.
Jeremiah 31:33

Acts 14:27

September 8, 2010

Now when they had come and gathered the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. (Acts 14:27)
Holy Spirit, help us all share what you have done with us and the doors of faith you have opened for us, so that the faith of your people will be built up. Thank you.

Kentucky

September 8, 2010

From an Iroquoian word “Ken-tah-ten” meaning “land of tomorrow.”
Number of counties: 120

Jesus, You are the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. You instructed Your disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the baptism of the Holy Spirit. On the day of Pentecost, about 120 were in the upper room. Likewise, may intercessors in every county in Kentucky be constantly united in prayer, to the glory of Your name, and may there be a baptism of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Worthy

September 7, 2010

Psalm 27:4,8 NIV
One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek.

You are worthy, Lord. You are worthy.

Psalm 48:9-11

September 7, 2010

We have thought, O God, on your lovingkindness, in the midst of your temple. (Psalm 48:9)

According to your name, O God, so is your praise to the ends of the earth; your right hand is full of righteousness. (Psalm 48:10)
Jesus, help us today to walk in your righteousness. Wash us with your blood and make us clean. Thank you.

Let Mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of your judgments. (Psalm 48:11)

Labor Day prayers

September 6, 2010

O Jesus,
You sit at the right hand of God. He has forged You a strong scepter and has given You all authority in heaven, on earth, and under the earth. We cry out for Your rule over the economic sector, though You are surrounded by enemies. Your sons and daughters, especially ________, freely join You in the establishment of Your kingdom in the business sector. They join at the fresh break of day, with all the vigor of youth. Defeat their opposition and bless their work. Amen.
Psalm 110 MSG, Matthew 28:18, Philippians 2:10

O Father,
We lift up those persons in the economic sector who praise Your name, especially ____. May they seek Your guidance in all their decisions, follow Your instructions carefully, and give You the glory. Show them when to move and when to wait. Go before them, we pray. Amen.
2 Samuel 5:17-25

O God in heaven,
Look at all the corporation executives, demagogues, and governmental delegates that deny You and defy the Messiah. They try to shut Jesus out of the public square, and they devise mean plots against the Christians.
You laugh at them in derision.
Your sons and daughters are not slaves. They are Your heirs, and joint-heirs with Christ Jesus. You bless their obedience.
We ask You, Lord, for our inheritance. We ask You to bless those who hearken to Your voice–overtake them with blessings. Bless their businesses. Bless their families. Bless their churches. Bless them with long life, we pray. Amen.
Psalm 2 MSG, Romans 8:15-17, Deuteronomy 28:1-2

Jehovah-jireh,
The Christians in the marketplace are surrounded by Philistines, who cut off their supply lines. The uncircumcised Philistines mock You, but the Christian entrepreneurs and their intercessors are undaunted. They have Your word, and their hearts have been circumcised. Show Yourself strong on behalf of the Christians climbing the economic cliffs of the enemies. Amen.
1 Samuel 13:19; 14:4-14

Dear Heavenly Father,
Your people perish for lack of knowledge. Yet, Your Son Jesus taught us that it is Your pleasure to give Your children good gifts–God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions.
Your children are employed throughout the economic sector of the United States, in industry, commerce, agriculture, science, education, health care, government, media, arts, and entertainment. Your children are also among the unemployed. Look with favor upon them and reveal to them new ideas, concepts, and inventions. Through these revelations, release prosperity to them.
You are omniscient and omnipotent, extravagant in Your generosity. With You, all things are possible. We ask these things for the establishment of Your kingdom on earth and the glory of Your name. Amen.
Psalm 112:1-3, Proverbs 29:18, Luke 12:31-33

Psalm 44:1-8

September 6, 2010

We have heard with our ears, O God, Our fathers have told us, the deeds you did in their days, in days of old: (Psalm 44:1)
Father, help us tell our children and grandchildren all that we have seen you do.

You drove out the nations with your hand, but them you planted; you afflicted the peoples, and cast them out. (Psalm 44:2)
Father, you gone before us and cleared away obstacles that we could not move. Thank you.

For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, nor did their own arm save them; but it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your countenance, because you favored them. (Psalm 44:3)
Jesus, thank you for covering us with your blood, washing us and making us whole.

You are my King, O God; command victories for Jacob. (Psalm 44:4)
Jesus, you are Lord; come and be king of my heart — rule and reign in me. Thank you.

Through you we will push down our enemies; through your name we will trample those who rise up against us. (Psalm 44:5)
Holy Spirit, you will empower us to do what we cannot in our own natural strength. Thank you.

For I will not trust in my bow, nor shall my sword save me. But you have saved us from our enemies, and have put to shame those who hated us. (Psalm 44:6-7)
Father God, we boast of you all day long, and praise your name forever. Amen. (From Psalm 44:8 )

A word received: Pray for men and women and children who will walk with me.

Kentucky

September 6, 2010

In February of 1775, Daniel Boone led a party to blaze a trail from eastern Tennessee through the Cumberland Gap to the south bank of the Kentucky River. In time, this became the Wilderness Road, which provided the means for immigrant travel and expansion.
At the turn of the nineteenth century, an extraordinary and very influential ‘religious’ movement began during revival meetings in south-central Kentucky. The excitement created there soon spread to Cane Ridge in August 1801, where crowds up to twenty thousand responded to fervent preaching in a new and demonstrative way! People would come with loaded wagons and stay for days, which coined the new word ‘campmeeting’. Between 1801 and 1840 this revival swept the entire South and became known as the “Second Great Awakening.”

O Father,
We thank You that Kentucky has been a birthplace of revival. We cry out for Christian leaders who bill blaze a trail through the spiritual obstacles confronting this state and germinate the seeds of revival again. Amen.

through Archbishop Kolini and Freda and for what the Lord will do
through the new Archbishop and his wife.

2. Confession of Sin: for personal sin and for the times when the

left undone.

3. The Wonder of God: for His calling Anglican Mission into existence
and His faithfulness in leading and directing us this past 10 and
more years.

4. Faith: for our trusting the Lord to direct our future together.

5. Petition: for the man of God’s choosing to be raised up, elected,
and anointed by God for the office of Archbishop of Rwanda.

6. Thanksgiving: that the Lord hears the cries of His people and moves
on their behalf for his purposes.

Suggested prayer to be used every Sunday until the election of the new
Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Rwanda:

“Sovereign God, by the power of your Holy Spirit, we ask that you
guide and direct those who will choose the next Archbishop of Rwanda;
an archbishop who will continue to have your heart, listen to your
voice and guide us in the fulfillment of your kingdom purposes.”

Philemon 1-25

September 5, 2010

Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved friend and fellow laborer, (Philemon 1)
Jesus, we pray for your faithful witnesses around the world who are prisoners because of their testimony. In the day of their trial give them your words to speak. Help them to be faithful to the end.

to the beloved Apphia, Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house: (Philemon )2
Holy Spirit, move through the house churches and home fellowships and make Jesus visible in the faces of those gathered there.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Philemon 3)
Father, we ask for your grace and that more of the life of Jesus would be present and visible in us.

I thank my God, making mention of you always in my prayers, (Philemon 4)
Help us hold each other in prayer, Father; thank you for the opportunity to do this.

hearing of your love and faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints, (Philemon 5)
Holy Spirit, let your love for Jesus and our Father God be manifested in our relationships with each other.

that the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. (Philemon 6)
Jesus, please help us share our faith in you with others and acknowledge every good thing you have done for us.

For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed by you, brother. (Philemon 7)
Father, thank you for those refresh us by their joy in Jesus.

Therefore, though I might be very bold in Christ to command you what is fitting, (Philemon 8 )
Holy Spirit, please help us to be bold in urging one another to do what is fitting.

yet for love’s sake I rather appeal to you–being such a one as Paul, the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ– (Philemon 9)
Jesus, help us show forth your love as we appeal to one another to walk in your ways.

I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten while in my chains, who once was unprofitable to you, but now is profitable to you and to me. I am sending him back. You therefore receive him, that is, my own heart, whom I wished to keep with me, that on your behalf he might minister to me in my chains for the gospel. But without your consent I wanted to do nothing, that your good deed might not be by compulsion, as it were, but voluntary. For perhaps he departed for a while for this purpose, that you might receive him forever, no longer as a slave but more than a slave–a beloved brother, especially to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord. (Philemon 10-16)
Holy Spirit, help us to be specific in our prayers and words and deeds — help us follow Paul’s example of encouraging Philemon to be merciful to Onesimus. Help us recognize each other as brothers and sisters whatever our station in life.

If then you count me as a partner, receive him as you would me. But if he has wronged you or owes anything, put that on my account. I, Paul, am writing with my own hand. I will repay–not to mention to you that you owe me even your own self besides. (Philemon 17-19)
Jesus, please give us your love that lets us be vulnerable with one another as Paul made himself vulnerable.

Yes, brother, let me have joy from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in the Lord. (Philemon 20)
Jesus, refresh our hearts with your love and joy.

Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say. (Philemon 21)
Father, please help us go the extra mile for one another.

But, meanwhile, also prepare a guest room for me, for I trust that through your prayers I shall be granted to you. (Philemon 22)
Father, I want to live as Paul did — with hope and expectation through answered prayer.

Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you, as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow laborers. (Philemon 23-24)
Lord Jesus, thank you for our fellow laborers in the vineyard.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. (Philemon 25)
Lord Jesus Christ, let your grace be manifested our spirits and help us pour out that grace on one another. Amen.

A word received: Pray for hearts that are open to my work.

A word received: Pray for my word to take root in the hearts of my people.
