“Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean;” (Isaiah 1:16a)
Holy Spirit, come and wash us clean.
“Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes.” (Isaiah 1:16b)
Father, nothing that we do is hidden from your eyes; help us truly repent of any evil we are doing.
“Cease to do evil, learn to do good;” (Isaiah 1:16c-17a)
Holy Spirit, teach us and guide us so that we shun evil and do good.
“Seek justice,” (Isaiah 1:17b)
Jesus, please help us seek after your righteousness.
“Rebuke the oppressor;” (Isaiah 1:17c)
Holy Father, help us speak out to all who oppress others. We have been silent when we should have spoken.
“Defend the fatherless,” (Isaiah 1:17d)
Father, we cry out to you for all those children caught up in the foster care system: raise up men who can mentor and love them.
“Plead for the widow.” (Isaiah 1:17e)
Jesus, we plead to you for your help for all those widows who are bereft of help and have fallen through the cracks: help us show forth your love to them.
