Psalm 37:23-26

October 21, 2010

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, and He delights in his way. (Psalm 37:23)
Father, we ask you to order our steps and we pray that you will be able to delight in us. Help us delight in you and your word.

Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the LORD upholds him with His hand. (Psalm 37:24)
Jesus, hold us up; hold us in your hand.

I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread. (Psalm 37:25)
Father, thank you for the way you have carried us all these years. As our days are, so let our strength be. (See Deuteronomy 33:25b) You are our refuge and underneath are your everlasting arms. (See Deuteronomy 33:27a) Please help us to be vigorous and study and fruitful in old age. (See Psalm 92:14)

He is ever merciful, and lends; and his descendants are blessed. (Psalm 37:26)
Holy Spirit, bless our children and grandchildren and all our spiritual children.

A word received: “Your law is my delight” — That is my hope for my people — that they would delight in me and my word. (See Psalm 199:77, 174)

North Dakota

October 21, 2010

–Coming of white man raised havoc with Indian tribes, estimated 15,000 dying of smallpox
–Sitting Bull, a leading opponent of reservation life, was killed as an elderly leader at his home on Standing Rock Reservation
–Wars, broken treaties, greedy traders and alcohol have left scars still felt today.
–Great Depression hit N.D.; thousands losing farms, moving into cities, or out of state.
–Broken dreams, physical hunger, hardship, & displacement contribute to strongholds of thoughts resulting in a “hope deferred” mindset.

Proverbs 13:12 (New International Version)
Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.

O Lord,
We pray that new joy will flood across the land of North Dakota. Anoint this land with a spirit of healing. Amen.

Lamentations 2:11-15

October 20, 2010

My eyes fail with tears,
My heart is troubled;
My bile is poured on the ground
Because of the destruction of the daughter of my people,
Because the children and the infants
Faint in the streets of the city.
(Lamentations 2:11)
Holy Spirit, give us hearts that truly grieve over the apostasy and destruction of the Episcopal Church.

They say to their mothers,
“Where is grain and wine?”
As they swoon like the wounded
In the streets of the city,
As their life is poured out
In their mothers’ bosom.
(Lamentations 2:12)
Lord Jesus, feed the children of this land with daily bread and with your living word.

How shall I console you?
To what shall I liken you,
O daughter of Jerusalem?
What shall I compare with you, that I may comfort you,
O virgin daughter of Zion?
For your ruin is spread wide as the sea;
Who can heal you?
(Lamentations 2:13)
Lord Jesus Christ, you are the healer; put your hand on the Episcopal Church and console and comfort us.

Your prophets have seen for you
False and deceptive visions;
They have not uncovered your iniquity,
To bring back your captives,
But have envisioned for you false prophecies and delusions.
(Lamentations 2:14)
Holy Father, the church as been afflicted with false prophets and its leaders and teachers and people have believed delusions; have mercy on us.

All who pass by clap their hands at you;
They hiss and shake their heads
At the daughter of Jerusalem:
“Is this the city that is called
‘The perfection of beauty,
The joy of the whole earth’?”
(Lamentations 2:15)
Holy Spirit, please help us lament the Episcopal Church’s fall from grace and daily life it up to Jesus in prayer. Thank you.

Colorado

October 20, 2010

In 1967, Colorado became the first state to reform its abortion law based on the American Law Institute (ALI) recommendation. The new Colorado statute permitted abortions if the pregnant woman’s life or physical or mental health were endangered, if the fetus would be born with a severe physical or mental defect, or if the pregnancy had resulted from rape or incest. Other states began to follow suit, and by 1972, 13 states had so-called ALI statutes.
Colorado is the only state in the nation with a personhood amendment on the upcoming November ballot. The personhood amendment states that life begins at conception.

Jesus, You are the way, the truth, and the life. We speak Your holy name over the upcoming election in Colorado. Amen.

Revelation 7:9-17

October 19, 2010

After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, (Revelation 7:9)
Lord Jesus Christ, help us join that great throng bringing honor and glory and worship to you.

and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” (Revelation 7:10)
Lord, salvation does belong to you. It is by your blood that we are saved.

All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying:
”Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom,
Thanksgiving and honor and power and might,
Be to our God forever and ever.
      Amen.”
(Revelation 7:11-12)
Father, help us to worship you. Blessing and glory and wisdom are yours. Thanksgiving and honor and power and might are yours. You are our God forever and ever. Amen.

Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?” And I said to him, “Sir, you know.” So he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. (Revelation 7:13-14)
Jesus, we pray for all those who are going through great tribulation now for the sake of your name: strengthen them and carry them through to victory.

Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” (Revelation 7:15-17)
Jesus, shepherd us and bring us to fountains of living water.

      Father, wipe away our tears.

Holy Spirit, come and anoint us.

Holy Trinity, one God, thank you.

Royal priesthood

October 19, 2010

1 Peter 2:9 (New International Version)
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Heavenly Father,
Your Word is a lamp unto the feet of Joseph, Sally, Chris, Lauren, Gaenor, Mark, Samuel, Erin, Isabella, Christy, Nick, and Alan. Your word is a light unto their path.
Lord, open up the path in a new way! Let the rain fall and wash away obstacles to their healing.
Holy Spirit, rain down until the spirit of healing rises up within their spirits. Rain down until a healing mist, each droplet refracting colors and musical notes and fragrances, fills their very being. Your word is a light unto their neural pathways!
Guard them from envy and depression. They are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, holy and set apart unto You. Clothe them in the royal raiment of Your sons and daughters, the raiment of Your kingdom and authority. Your word is a light unto their spiritual path to Your kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

Colorado

October 19, 2010

The average elevation of Colorado (6800 ft. above sea level) is higher than any other state and it is the home of 54 mountain peaks that reach over 14,000 feet. The Continental Divide, stretching across the state, makes Colorado a watershed.

Psalm 113:3 (New International Version)
From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
the name of the LORD is to be praised.

Father,
We pray that a constant canopy of worship will span the state of Colorado. New songs across the continental divide, Lord. We declare new songs to fill the atmosphere, new songs to eradicate idolatry from society and the land, new songs echoing on the mountain peaks, new songs to extol Your holy name. Amen.

Psalm 9:1-5, 9-10

October 18, 2010

I will praise you, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all your marvelous works. (Psalm 9:1)
Father, please give me an undivided heart so that I may praise you with my whole heart.

Jesus, guide me by your Holy Spirit so that I tell of all your marvelous works.

I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. (Psalm 9:2)
Holy Spirit, fill my heart and my mind and my mouth with the praise of Jesus and his holy name.

When my enemies turn back, they shall fall and perish at your presence. (Psalm 9:3)
Jesus, be with me in my going out and my coming in; by day and by night; at morning and at evening; at all times and in all places. So fill me with your presence and the power of your name that the enemy will be forced to turn back and be defeated by you. Thank you.

For you have maintained my right and my cause; you sat on the throne judging in righteousness. (Psalm 9:4)
Jesus, let your righteous judgments be manifest in the Episcopal Church and in this diocese.

You have rebuked the nations, you have destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name forever and ever. (Psalm 9:5)
Holy Father, come with the cleansing fire of your Holy Spirit and renew the Episcopal Church. Move throughout this diocese and purge us of our sin. Thank you.

The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And those who know your name will put their trust in you; for you, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you. (Psalm 9:9-10)
Jesus, we fly to your bosom; you are our refuge and the rock on which we stand; you do not move nor are you shaken. Fill us anew with your gospel truth; help us to sing your praises. Thank you.

A word received: I want my people to know the extreme love I have for them. I want them to look at my cross and know (underline know) that I love them beyond any measure they can imagine.

Restoration

October 18, 2010

El Elyon, God Almighty,
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingom. Your dominion endures through all generations. You are faithful to all Your promises and loving toward all You have made.
We rend our hearts before You. We have perpetuated many iniquities and broken covenants. We have broken Your holy laws, and there is no health in us
Have mercy, Lord. You are gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. If patients suffering from neurologic disease are suffering as a result of our sins, take pity and relent from sending calamity upon them. Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn. Spare Your children, especially Joseph, Sally, Chris, Lauren, Gaenor, Mark, Samuel, Erin, Isabella, Christy, Nick, and Alan. Restore the years the locusts have eaten, Lord–a seven-fold restoration.
Love and faithfulness meet together.
Your promises have shaken hands with Your power, and they are now walking together.
Righteousness and peace kiss each other.
We will be glad and rejoice in You, for You have given the autumn rains in righteousness. You are raining Your Spirit down upon these patients to cleanse them spirit, soul, and body, just as You sent rain to cleanse the earth in the days of Noah. Their spirits, souls, and bodies overflow with Your abundance.
Your promises have shaken hands with Your power, and they are now walking together. Amen.
Psalm 85:10, 145:13, Proverbs 6:31, Joel 2:13-25

Colorado

October 18, 2010

This year we have been praying for our nation, one state at a time. Colorado is rich with natural resources including oil, gas, gold and silver.

State Motto: Nothing without Providence

Isaiah 45:3 (New International Version)
I will give you the treasures of darkness,
riches stored in secret places,
so that you may know that I am the LORD,
the God of Israel, who summons you by name.

Jehovah-jireh,
You are our Provider. We pray that the treasure of Colorado will be used to advance the Kingdom of God. Amen.

Another healing prayer from Georgia

October 17, 2010

We have the coolest readers!

Dear Holy Father,
Please hear our prayer.
We groan
for the redemption of this world
for your people and your church
for the pain and suffering we feel and see all around
for the wrong we do and for the sin in our lives.
We groan
in the effects of the fall,
in the frailty and faults and foolishness
of our human flesh,
of generational sin, curses, trespasses,
of internal and external, physical and soul trauma
of losses, griefs, events and accidents that cause
injury, distortion, misdirection, imbalance, anomaly,
deficiency, degeneration and malfunction.
We groan and weep
to see children suffering,
coping with diseases or injuries.
We come to You in their behalf.

ALL problems and powers are subject to Your Word.
We ask for Your word to be sent to heal these children
from their destructions. (Psalm 107:20)
We ask for Your word to heal and restore right function,
balance, coordination, equilibrium, sensation,
sufficiency of all that is necessary.
We ask You to intervene and speak,
For Your Word to avail
within the myriad intricacies of atoms, cells, tissues,
organs, muscles, bones, connective tissue.
Please make straight the broken, twisted neural pathways,
create new life in nerve cells, new connections and synapses,
overshadow, cover and insulate each nerve
and restore balance to the neurochemicals
right order and sequence to the firing of neurons,
proper order to the DNA and RNA,
order to the sequences of guanine adenine thymine cytosine
so that proteins are produced as they should be.
and the vibrant health of Your Kingdom should rule in the physical realm,
Please breathe new life into these children – life to spirit, soul and body –
as a testament and to Your mercy and power.
Please grant wisdom, inspiration, cooperation, dedication
to researchers and physicians
and counsel, mercy, joy, peace and strength to the caregivers.

We seek Your face for all these things.
You alone are the Worthy and Able, Faithful, True.
You alone can open The Book of Life and read from it.
You alone can read and write truth, love and life upon each book
of our deep hearts, souls, minds and bodies,
All cells, enzymes, proteins, genes, DNA, RNA are under Your command..
You alone can create, birth, build, sustain, balance, keep and restore
a human being with Your Word and Spirit.
You number our days.
You are our consolation, wisdom and counsel, our chief joy,
to make our days overflow with faith, goodness, love and hope.
Your Presence makes our days sweet and beautiful and peaceful,
a source of pleasure, satisfaction and glory for You.
We submit these our children to You,
for they are Yours, entrusted to us only for a while.
Thank You for all You have done and will do as Healer and Savior,
Thank You that as Redeemer, You work all things together for good.
In the Name of Jesus our Lord,
Amen

2 Timothy 3:14-4:5 and Psalm 127

October 17, 2010

But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, (2 Timothy 3:14)
Father, thank you for the teachers you have given me. Please help me by your Holy Spirit to apply what they have taught me.

and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (2 Timothy 3:15)
Jesus, I grew up without any knowledge of you. Thank you for helping me find you as a young man. Thank you for baptizing me with your Holy Spirit so that I could learn from your Holy Scriptures.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (2 Timothy 3:16)
Holy Spirit, please continue daily to teach me sound doctrine, reprove me, correct me, and instruct me in righteousness by your Holy Scriptures.

that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:17)
Holy Spirit, continue to equip me with your word day by day. Thank you.

I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. (2 Timothy 4:1-2)
Holy Father, please help every priest, deacon, missionary, and evangelist in this diocese take this charge to heart. Write it on their hearts.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. (2 Timothy 4:3-4)
Lord Jesus Christ, the time has come and your church has become a haven for those who pursue false teaching. Come and cleanse your church! Lord, you called St. Francis to rebuild your church; call many such men and women in our day to rebuild your church. Renew in our day the wonders of your Pentecost. Thank you for the ministry of those in the Franciscans of the Holy Cross, the Sisters of St. Mary, the Daughters of the King, and the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. Raise up many vocations to these orders.

But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. (2 Timothy 4:5)
Holy Spirit, please help each of us in this diocese fulfill the ministry you have given us. You have called us; help each of us discern and respond to your call. Thank you.

Unless the Lord builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the Lord guards the city,
The watchman stays awake in vain.
It is vain for you to rise up early,
To sit up late,
To eat the bread of sorrows;
For so He gives His beloved sleep.
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;
They shall not be ashamed,
But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
(Psalm 127)

Thank you, Lord, for filling up our quiver.

Updated prayer list for neurologic disease

October 16, 2010

Exodus 28:15-20,29 (New International Version)
“Fashion a breastpiece for making decisions—the work of a skilled craftsman. . . . Then mount four rows of precious stones on it. In the first row there shall be a ruby, a topaz and a beryl; in the second row a turquoise, a sapphire and an emerald; in the third row a jacinth, an agate and an amethyst; in the fourth row a chrysolite, an onyx and a jasper. Mount them in gold filigree settings. There are to be twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes. . . .
“Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing memorial before the LORD.

More requests for prayer are coming our way–Erin, spina bifida; Isabella, autism; Christy, brain injury; and Nick, mental retardation. What a high privilege to carry them into the presence of the Lord.

This is our twelve–

Tay-Sachs disease

October 16, 2010

Tay-Sachs is a rare autosomal recessive error of metabolism that affects the nervous system. It is found in Ashkenazi Jews, French Canadians and Cajuns of southern Louisiana. No one on our prayer list has this diagnosis, but I feel called to write a prayer. Our Jewish brothers and sisters have blessed us in so many ways. May we bless them.

Psalm 108:1-6 (English Standard Version)
My heart is steadfast, O God!
I will sing and make melody with all my being!
Awake, O harp and lyre!
I will awake the dawn!
I will give thanks to you, O LORD, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.
For your steadfast love is great above the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be over all the earth!
That your beloved ones may be delivered,
give salvation by your right hand and answer me!

O God,
We lift our voices in adoration. Your steadfast love is beyond measure, extending in every direction and through every realm. Your faithfulness is the warp and woof of time and space.
Just as King Ahasuerus extended his scepter to Queen Esther, we implore You to extend Your scepter of mercy to the victims of Tay-Sachs disease. The Jewish people are Your chosen ones. They are beloved.
Commission Your holy angels to make music over these patients, their caregivers, their physicians, and the scientific researchers of this disease. Be exalted, O Lord!
Your truth extends to the clouds. Release Your truth to the scientists and physicians who treat Tay-Sachs disease. Grant them supernatural insight into the healing of this disease. May understanding dawn and Your beloved ones be delivered from this affliction. We cry out in the name of Jesus, Son of David. Amen.
