2 Timothy 4:1-8 and Matthew 5:38-48

I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom: (2 Timothy 4:1)
Holy Spirit, help us receive this charge.

Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. (2 Timothy 4:2)
Father, please help us all minister in this way.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. (2 Timothy 4:3-4)
Jesus, we have come to such a time; lead us through it step by step.

A word received: Walk with me; let me lead you step by step.

But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. (2 Timothy 4:5)
Bless Bishop Bill and all our clergy. Help them to be watchful in all things. Jesus, please raise up many evangelists throughout this diocese. Help the laity hear the call to share the good news.

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:6-7)
Father, thank you for all your faithful ministers in this diocese who have fought the good fight.

Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved his appearing. (2 Timothy 4:8 )
Jesus, thank you for the hope of glory that you have given us.

      Notes from the Front Line

***** Please pray for the people of Egypt.

***** “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away. You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.” (Matthew 5:38-48 )
A word received: This is love: love which reaches out and embraces those who oppose you. Look to me: let me guide your love so that the fruit of my Spirit is produced.
