The crest of the Mississippi River is coming to the Mississippi Delta. Many members of our parish are moving out of their homes, not because the levees have broken, but because the water will pour over the levees. Roads are being closed.
Because Yazoo is on the edge of the Delta, part of the city is on high ground. We don’t know how many homeless refugees will arrive.
Ecclesiastes 3:11,14 (New Living Translation)
God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. . . . I know that whatever God does is final. Nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God’s purpose is that people should fear him.
Father,
I declare Your purpose for Yazoo City and the Mississippi Delta: May we fear You.
In keeping and throwing away, may we fear You. In tearing down and building up, may we fear You. In welcoming and bidding farewell, may we fear You. In quiet and speech, may we fear You.
Redeem the past. Redeem the present. Redeem the future.
Heal the land. Restore order to the waterways. Fill the atmosphere with the praise of Your holy Name.
Order our footsteps and our hearts. Commission Your holy angels to assist us in all that we do. Amen.
