Israeli-Syrian border

May 18, 2011

The exchange between Jesus and Peter took place on the road to Caesarea Philippi, near today’s Israeli-Syrian border.

Mark 8:32-33 (Young’s Literal Translation)
and openly he was speaking the word. And Peter having taken him aside, began to rebuke him, and he, having turned, and having looked on his disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, `Get behind me, Adversary, because thou dost not mind the things of God, but the things of men.’

Father, we join our voices to these words of Jesus, living and active in the atmosphere over the Israeli-Syrian border. Go away, Satan!

Luke 2:8-17

May 18, 2011

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. (Luke 2:8 )
Shepherd of Israel, watch over us by day and by night.

And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. (Luke 2:9)
Lord, send your messengers to us with your good news.

Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.” (Luke 2:10)
Holy Spirit, thank you for the joy you bring us.

“For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11)
Father, thank you for sending your son to us.

“And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:12)
Holy Spirit, thank you for the signs and guidance you give us along the way to Jesus.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: (Luke 2:13)
Starry Night by Van Gogh
”Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14)

So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. (Luke 2:15-16)
Holy Father, please help us to be a people who go with haste to see what you have done, what you have accomplished.

Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. (Luke 2:17)
Holy Spirit, please put your words into our mouths as we share what you have done for us. Thank you.

A word received: Wait for me — don’t rush ahead. I will guide you on the right path. Trust me. Keep your eyes on me.
