In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, in the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness; (Luke 3:1-2)
Father, let your word come to many among us. Come into all the wilderness areas of our lives and this diocese with your word.
and he went into all the region about the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. (Luke 3:3)
Holy Spirit, prepare the way for Jesus to come into our hearts anew by the faithful and effective preaching of repentance, confession of sin, and forgiveness.
As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.” (Luke 3:4-6)
Jesus,
* Prepare the way in our hearts to be filled anew with your Holy Spirit at the Diocesan Convention.
* Make straight paths for all who are coming.
* Make all the crooked places in our lives and parishes and diocese straight.
* Smooth out the rough places at the Diocesan Convention.
* Help all of us see and receive the salvation you have made for us. Thank you.
He said therefore to the multitudes that came out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?” (Luke 3:7)
Holy Spirit, please help us bring our sinful nature to the cross at the Diocesan Convention.
“Bear fruits that befit repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father’; for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham.’” (Luke 3:8 )
Father, please help us throughout this diocese bear true fruits of repentance. Set us free from having any identity other than as followers of Jesus Christ. Thank you.
I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty,
Father, thank you that it all depends on your strength and might, and not ours.
