Prayer Table Report

May 21, 2011

Christ Church Schenectady Prayer Table Report, Saturday, May 21, 2011, 9:20 – 10:30 a.m. Torre Bissell, Mark Pasko, and Joe Gaito on State St

+–indicates received a wooden cross made by Dennis Adams of North Carolina

+Junior (young Guyanese man on his way to work, waiting for the bus)

+Martha (woman) — “I need a job!”

+Fernandez

+Donald and +Navia (little girl) — Donald drove into the parking lot to get prayer for his girlfriend +Tracy who is graduating from college today. Navia is Tracy’s daughter.

+Pedro — “Patience!”

The Bus Driver slowed and honked and waved.

+Isran (woman who came across the street for prayer) — She had been a Christian before but is now going to a Hindu meditation group. She said that everything was “a heaviness and a blockage” to everything she does. I suggest that she ask Jesus to guide her on the path he wanted her on.

+DiandrĂ© (young man) — living with his girlfriend who has four children (he has a child by another girl). He wants to draw back to God. I suggested that he consider getting married — that it was not a good idea to have sex outside of marriage. He acknowledged that. We prayed that he would grow into the man, the father, the husband that God is calling him to be.

Joe — in recovery

+Paul asked prayer for his wife Connie.

+Janice (seriously wacked out woman) — She got 6 crosses to hand out to children. She asked prayer for Gary who needs an operation. At one point she said, “At least I know that my Redeemer lives.” After she left we thanked God that he would honor us be sending one of “the lost and the least” to us.

+Paula (regular) — we prayed for her kids.

Natasha and Andrew (regular)

+Lashika — She first asked what “this prayer table is all about” and then asked prayer for her fiancĂ© +Terrill who is on a plane trip.

Colossians 3:12-17

May 21, 2011

Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, (Colossians 3:12a)
Father, thank you for calling us to a life of holiness and for loving us.

put on tender mercies, (Colossians 3:12b)
Holy Spirit, please help us to wear garments of mercy — clothe us in mercy, give us hearts of compassion for the lost and the least.

kindness, (Colossians 3:12c)
Jesus, help us to reach forth our hands in kindness.

humility, (Colossians 3:12d)
Jesus, help us to be ever mindful of how great your love is and how fleeting ours is.

meekness, (Colossians 3:12e)
Holy Spirit, we want our strength to be under your control so that we daily use our strength for your kingdom purposes.

longsuffering; (Colossians 3:12f)
Father, help us endure in love for one another — never giving up on the hope that is in us.

bearing with one another, (Colossians 3:13a)
Lord, you have built us up in this body of your church — help us remember that each member of the body is important to you and to our common life.

and forgiving one another, (Colossians 3:13b)
Lord Jesus Christ, help us daily extend to others the same forgiving love you give us.

if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. (Colossians 3:13c)
Jesus, help us walk in your footsteps.

But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. (Colossians 3:14)
Holy Trinity, one God, help us enter into you life of love for one another by our love for our brothers and sisters in the church.

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. (Colossians 3:15-17)

How easy it is
for me to live with you, Lord.
How easy it is to believe in you
when my mind reels from not understanding,
or when my mind weakens–
when the most intelligent people cannot think
beyond the evening and do not know
what must be done tomorrow.
You convey to me the
lucid assurance that you exist,
that you will see to it that not all paths
toward good will be closed.
At the peak of earthly renown
I look back with amazement at
that road which by no stretch of the imagination
I could have devised–
A remarkable road through despair
which has led me here
where I too have been able
to send mankind
reflections of your rays–
As for what I
won’t have time or ability for–
This means that you have
reserved it for others.
