“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.” (John 15:1)
Father, draw me more and more into that vine.
“Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit he takes away; and every branch that bears fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” (John 15:2)
Father, prune away the unfruitful parts of my life so that I may bear good fruit for your kingdom.
“You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.” (John 15:3)
Jesus, thank you for the cleansing fire of your word.
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” (John 15:4)
Holy Spirit, help us throughout this diocese to abide in Jesus. [He is the true resting place for our souls.]
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
Jesus, please help me daily appreciate the high honor of being a branch on the vine. I can do nothing in my own, but only as you give me the power of your Holy Spirit am I able to do anything.
“If anyone does not abide in me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.” (John 15:6)
Father, help me recognize cast off branches for what they are: they can bear no fruit and I mess with them at my peril.
“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” (John 15:7)
Jesus, help us abide in you. Let your words abide in our hearts.
“By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be my disciples.” (John 15:8)
Father, let the fruit we bear bring you honor. Thank you.
