Psalm 18:14 (New Living Translation)

his lightning flashed, and they were greatly confused.

From Daniel 6 and 9

May 14, 2011

Then the king arose very early in the morning and went in haste to the den of lions. And when he came to the den, he cried out with a lamenting voice to Daniel. The king spoke, saying to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?” Then Daniel said to the king, “O king, live forever! My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you.” (Daniel 6:19-22)
Holy Spirit, please us, as you did Daniel, to give a good witness of what you have done for us. Shut the mouths of all those who spew out false accusations against the brethren and bring us to your victory.

A Prayer of Confession for the Episcopal Church from Daniel 9

Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. (Daniel 9:3)
LORD, move our hearts to come before you in humility to pray.

And I prayed to the LORD my God, and made confession, and said, O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant and mercy with those who love him, and with those who keep his commandments, (Daniel 9:4)
LORD, please give us hearts made pure by confession. You are great and awesome and you keep your covenant and mercy with those who love you and keep your commandments. Help us walk in your ways.

we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from your precepts and your judgments. (Daniel 9:5)
Father, we in the Episcopal Church have sinned and committed iniquity and have done wickedly and rebelled by departing from your precepts and judgments.

Neither have we heeded your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings and our princes, to our fathers and all the people of the land. (Daniel 9:6)
Holy Spirit, we have ignored what you have said through your prophets who speak even now to our bishops and leaders of your church.

O Lord, righteousness belongs to you, but to us shame of face, as it is this day–to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, those near and those far off in all the countries to which you have driven them, because of the unfaithfulness which they have committed against you. (Daniel 9:7)
Jesus, we have sinned against your righteousness in this diocese and in the Episcopal Church, and many have fled this church because of the unfaithfulness which we have committed against you.

O Lord, to us belongs shame of face, to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against you. (Daniel 9:8 )
O Lord, to us belongs shame of face: to our bishops, clergy, and lay leaders because we have sinned against you. Bring us back to you.

To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against him. (Daniel 9:9)
Jesus, you are fountain of mercy and forgiveness even though we have rebelled against you. Wash us clean by your blood.

We have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets. (Daniel 9:10)
LORD, we have not obeyed your voice; we have not walked in your laws which you have set before us by your servants the prophets in the Scriptures.

Yes, all Israel has transgressed your law, and has departed so as not to obey your voice; therefore the curse and the oath written in the Law of Moses the servant of God have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against him. (Daniel 9:11)
Yes, Father, the Episcopal Church has transgressed your law and has departed from the words you have spoken; therefore we are under judgment because we have sinned against you. Have mercy on us for the sake of your son Jesus.

And he has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great disaster; for under the whole heaven such has never been done as what has been done to Jerusalem. (Daniel 9:12)
Jesus, the flight of many from the Episcopal Church is a sign of your great displeasure and judgment on us. Turn our hearts back to you and your ways.

As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us; yet we have not made our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities and understand your truth. (Daniel 9:13)
Holy Spirit, please help us turn from our iniquities and understand you truth so that we cry out to you in Spirit and in Truth.

Therefore the LORD has kept the disaster in mind, and brought it upon us; for the LORD our God is righteous in all the works which he does, though we have not obeyed his voice. (Daniel 9:14)
Jesus, the division and discord in the Episcopal Church is a sign of our disobedience to your word; help us return to your righteousness ways.

And now, O Lord our God, who brought your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and made yourself a name, as it is this day–we have sinned, we have done wickedly! (Daniel 9:15)
Father, bring us out of the house of bondage as you did the children of Israel — we have sinned, we have done wickedly!

O Lord, according to all your righteousness, I pray, let your anger and your fury be turned away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and your people are a reproach to all those around us. (Daniel 9:16)
Lord, in your righteousness, let your anger and your fury be turned away from the Episcopal Church; because for our sins and the iniquities of our church fathers, the Episcopal Church and your people are a reproach to all those around us.

Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of your servant, and his supplications, and for the Lord’s sake cause your face to shine on your sanctuary, which is desolate. (Daniel 9:17)
Father, hear the prayer of your servants and for Jesus’ sake cause your face to shine on your sanctuary which is desolate.

O my God, incline your ear and hear; open your eyes and see our desolations, and the city which is called by your name; for we do not present our supplications before you because of our righteous deeds, but because of your great mercies. (Daniel 9:18 )
O my God, incline your ear and hear, open your eyes and see our desolation, and the church which is called by your name; our righteousness is as filthy rags but we plead your great mercy.

O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for your own sake, my God, for your city and your people are called by your name. (Daniel 9:19)
O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for your own sake, my God, for your church and your people are called by your name.

Malachi 3:1-3, 4:4-6

May 13, 2011

“Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the LORD, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight. Behold, he is coming,” says the LORD of hosts. (Malachi 3:1)
Come soon, Lord Jesus. Send your messengers among us. Give us ears to hear and hearts to respond to what you are saying through them. Thank you for sending John the Baptist to prepare the way for you.

“But who can endure the day of his coming? And who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire and like launderers’ soap. (Malachi 3:2)
Holy Spirit, wash us and cleanse us with your refining fire.

He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; he will purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer to the LORD an offering in righteousness. (Malachi 3:3)
Holy Father, come and purify us; prepare us to be a people who will do your will. Thank you.

“Remember the Law of Moses, my servant, which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. and he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.” (Malachi 4:4-6)
Jesus, send your witnesses among us and turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers.

Luke 5:1-11

May 12, 2011

So it was, as the multitude pressed about him to hear the word of God, that he stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. Then he got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat. When he had stopped speaking, he said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” (Luke 5:1-4)
Lord Jesus, help us hear you when you tell us to launch out into the deep. Prepare our hearts to share the gospel of peace.

But Simon answered and said to him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at your word I will let down the net.” (Luke 5:5)
Thank you, Lord, that Simon Peter was willing to trust your word to him. Help us to be like Peter and go forth at your word.

And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. (Luke 5:6)
Jesus, we are always so surprised when we see you at work.

So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. (Luke 5:7)
Holy Spirit, show us, as you did Peter, where to let down our nets. Help us bring in the catch you have prepared for us.

When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” (Luke 5:8 )
Father, help us recognize our sinfulness when we come into Jesus’ presence to worship him.

For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken; and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.” (Luke 5:9-10)
Jesus, please help us to be fishers of men.

So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed him. (Luke 5:11)
Holy Spirit, help us to forsake all else in order to follow Jesus. Thank you.

Father, please put on all of us the shoes of the preparation to share the gospel of peace; gird our loins with your truth; put on us the breastplate of righteousness, and the helmet of salvation. Place on our arm the shield of faith with which to quench every fiery dart of the evil one; and place in our hand the sword of your Spirit which is your word; that having stood all, we might yet stand. Finally, help us to be strong in Jesus and in the power of his might and speak boldly as we ought to speak. Thank you. (See Ephesians 6:10-20)

Luke 14:16-24

May 11, 2011

***** From the Diocesan Update:
Diocesan Convention, “Be filled with the Holy Spirit”, is just around the corner June 10 — 12. We have super workshops again this year and our guest bishops and wives will be Bishop Harold and Liz Miller and Bishop Todd and Patsy McGregor.

Then he said to him, “A certain man gave a great supper and invited many,” (Luke 14:16)
Holy Spirit, help us throughout the diocese to heed your call to come to the Diocesan Convention.

“and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, ‘Come, for all things are now ready.’” (Luke 14:17)
Jesus, thank you for all your servants who have prepared workshops, talks, meditations, worship, healing, youth ministry…

“But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.’” (Luke 14:18 )
Holy Father, help us repent of seeking after the kingdoms of this world in place of your kingdom.

“And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.’” (Luke 14:19)
Holy Spirit, help your people see their excuses for what they are and repent of them and sign up for the Diocesan Convention.

“Still another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’” (Luke 14:20)
Jesus, come into the center of the marriages in this diocese and help us together bring the whole family into your kingdom.

“So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.’” (Luke 14:21)
Holy Spirit, help each of us go forth into our parishes and communities and invite others to come to the Diocesan Convention.

“And the servant said, ‘Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.’ Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” (Luke 14:22-23)
Jesus, don’t let any of our excuses stop us from going to the Diocesan Convention. Help each of us receive a fresh anointing of your Holy Spirit at the Diocesan Convention.

“For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.’” (Luke 14:24)
Father, even now, turn our hearts to receive the ministry of your Holy Spirit. Thank you.

A word received: Pray my people will heed my call.

Psalm 83 (New Living Translation)
1 O God, do not be silent!
Do not be deaf.
Do not be quiet, O God.
2 Don’t you hear the uproar of your enemies?
Don’t you see that your arrogant enemies are rising up?
3 They devise crafty schemes against your people;
they conspire against your precious ones. . .
13 O my God, scatter them like tumbleweed,
like chaff before the wind! . . .

May it be so for all terrorists and false media, we pray.

Healing of neurologic disease

May 11, 2011

A while back, I did a series of prayers for the healing neurologic disease. My recent reading (The Effects of Trauma by Jim Banks and Come Up Higher by Paul Cox) has stirred some thoughts on this subject.

Jesus Christ, Carpenter of Nazareth and Builder of the Universe,
All things were created by You and for You–all things, in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible. My eyes do not discern the unseen realities. Yet I believe You have redeemed both the visible and the invisible.
Your body was broken, Your blood was shed, and in three days, You rebuilt the temple of Your body. The day of Your resurrection was the eighth day of creation!
Master Carpenter, by Your blood, cleanse all the contamination of the building blocks of my body, the chemical elements of the seen and unseen portions of my being. (Pause and repent of any personal or generational false assumptions or sins that the Holy Spirit brings to mind.)
I present my body as a living sacrifice to You. I renew my mind by turning away from the personal and generational sins and false assumptions that Your Holy Spirit has brought to my consciousness. You are the image of the invisible God, and You renew the face of the earth by sending forth Your Spirit.
Master Carpenter, by Your body, realign my spirit, soul, and body to the plumbline that extends from Your throne. Disconnect me from all evil forces, including principalities, powers, dominions, thrones, and rulers.
Release my body from the residual effects of personal or genrational trauma and sin.
Bless the tissues of my body to safely remove all wastes, toxins, poisons, or any other by-products of personal and generational trauma and sin.
Command all short-term and long-term effects of trauma and stress to leave.
Shut down all portals or markers that give Satan access to torment me. Cancel all assignments of generational spirits as a result of trauma and sin.
If there is any portion of my being that has been separated from me as a result of personal or generational trauma or sin, I ask You to remove all defilement, fear, or torment from that portion and re-integrate it into its proper place and maturity. Re-unify this portion with my core being.
Master Carpenter, reorder the chemical elements within my being and rebuild my neurologic system. Re-establish the appropriate connections between the left and right hemispheres. Re-establish restorative, regenerative patterns of sleeping and awakening. Dismantle all automatic responses gained as a result of trauma, poverty, or fear.
I thank You, Jesus, for dying to free every aspect of my being. In You I behold the Lamb of God, and I am blessed. Amen.

Jeremiah 1:1-9

May 10, 2011

The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, to whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month. (Jeremiah 1:1-3)
Lord Jesus Christ, much of your church has been carried away and is captive to empty philosophies.

Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: (Jeremiah 1:4)
LORD, speak your word to your people. Put your word in our mouths and in our ears, and write it on our hearts.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5)
Jesus, thank you for forming us and shaping us.

Then said I: “Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.” (Jeremiah 1:6)
Holy Spirit, come upon the youth of this diocese and the youth going to the Diocesan Convention

But the LORD said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. (Jeremiah 1:7)
Father, help us to hear what the youth of this diocese are saying to us.

Do not be afraid of their faces, for I am with you to deliver you,” says the LORD. (Jeremiah 1:8 )
Holy Spirit, set us free from hear. Give us your voice to speak your word to one another. Thank you.

Then the LORD put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me: “Behold, I have put my words in your mouth. (Jeremiah 1:9)
LORD, put forth your hand and touch our mouths.

A word received: Keep your eyes on me.

Christ Church, Savannah litigation

May 9, 2011

Court today. This is a 2009 post.

From Scripture
No king is saved by the size of his army;
no warrior escapes by his great strength.
A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;
despite all its great strength it cannot save.
But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him,
on those whose hope is in His unfailing love,
to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.
In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name.
May Your unfailing love rest upon us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in You. Psalm 33:16-22

Please Pray For:
The Judge

This is the prayer being used by Christ Church, Savannah, for its legal counsel:
Though we do not trust in any man to help us, we do ask that You, Lord, would help these men who have been appointed to serve as our representatives in the court, conduct themselves in accordance with Your will. We pray that they would be enabled by Your Holy Spirit to see clearly what You would have them do; that they would speak clearly and persuasively against any injustice or unrighteousness. We pray that the Judge would make just decisions and that You would prevent him from being deceived by the lies of the one who is known as the father of lies. We pray not that we would win, Lord, but that Your Truth would be vindicated in such a way that the proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ would never depart from the pulpit of Christ Church. We ask that the only “trust” which would have any claim upon Christ Church would be that trust, Lord, which Your people place in You as the Way, the Truth and the Life.

We pray that You glorify Yourself in these proceedings in the court and that we would not fail to be worthy of the calling You have placed upon us as Your stewards of Christ Church at this time. We thank You that our unrighteousness is covered by the blood of the Lamb. So move us by Your Spirit that we would not get in the way of Your will being done. Amen.

We also pray, Lord, for those who oppose the truth of Your most holy Word. Have mercy upon them. Amen.

Isaiah 54:17 (New Living Translation)
But in that coming day
no weapon turned against you will succeed.
You will silence every voice
raised up to accuse you.
These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord;
their vindication will come from me.
I, the Lord, have spoken!

May it be so for all terrorists and false media, dear Lord.

Psalm 63:11 (New Living Translation)
But the king will rejoice in God.
All who trust in him will praise him,
while liars will be silenced.

May it be so for all terrorists and false media, dear Lord.

Mark 4:22 (New Living Translation)
For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open, and every secret will be brought to light.
May it be so for all terrorists and false media, dear Lord.

Isaiah 59:6a (New Living Translation)
Their webs can’t be made into clothing,
and nothing they do is productive.

May it be so for all terrorists and false media, dear Lord.

1 John 4:1-6 and Isaiah 52:7

May 9, 2011

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. (1 John 4: 1)
Holy Spirit, please pour out your gift of discernment on your people in this diocese. Help us to distinguish the true from the false and daily choose what is true and of you. Thank you.

By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, (1 John 4: 2)
Holy Spirit, help us make a true and good confession about Jesus.

and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. (1 John 4: 3)
Holy Father, help us resist all that is evil.

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. (1 John 4: 4-)6
Jesus, thank you for coming into our lives and filling us with the strength and power of your Holy Spirit.

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, (Isaiah 52:7a)
Jesus, immerse us in your beauty — help us daily bring good news to your people.

Who proclaims peace, (Isaiah 52:7b)
Father, help us daily show forth the peace which passes all understanding. (See Philippians 4:7)

Who brings glad tidings of good things, (Isaiah 52:7c)
Jesus, help us publish glad tidings of great joy.

Who proclaims salvation, (Isaiah 52:7d)
Thank you, Father, for the salvation you have wrought for us in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!” (Isaiah 52:7e)
Jesus, come and rule and reign in our hearts!
