Acts 1:1-11

The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, (Acts 1:1)
      Jesus, please help us throughout this diocese and at the Diocesan Convention to receive your teaching into our hearts and minds.

until the day in which He was taken up, after he through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom he had chosen, (Acts 1:2)
      Father, thank you for the faithful apostolic witness of Bishops Bill, Dan and David. Help all of us receive your commandments.

to whom he also presented himself alive after his suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. (Acts 1:3)
      Holy Spirit, please help us know Jesus and the power of his resurrection.

And being assembled together with them, he commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” he said, “you have heard from me;” (Acts 1:4)
      Jesus, help all of us who are assembled at the Diocesan Convention to wait upon you and receive the promise of your Father, the Holy Spirit.

“for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” (Acts 1:5)
      Jesus, baptize us with your Holy Spirit.

Therefore, when they had come together, they asked him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6)
      Father, we pray for your kingdom to come and your will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.

And he said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in his own authority.” (Acts 1:7)
      Holy Spirit, guide us so that we don’t get side-tracked by fruitless speculation about end-times. Help us live and hope in the resurrection.

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 )
      Jesus, please help us receive the power of your Holy Spirit.

      Holy Spirit, come upon us and empower us to be witnesses to Jesus in our communities, our diocese, and throughout the world.

      Father, help us see the harvest fields that are all around us.

Now when he had spoken these things, while they watched, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight. (Acts 1:9)
      and ascended into heaven, (Nicene Creed)
      Jesus, thank you for your ascension into heaven to sit at the right hand of your father. Thank you that you ever live to make intercession for us.

      He ascended into heaven, (Apostles Creed)
      Jesus, thank you for being taken up into heaven in the sight of your apostolic witnesses. Help us live day by day in the hope that as you were taken up into heaven, so you will come back in like manner. (Acts 1:11)

And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:10-11)
      Why are we standing here? Holy Spirit, help us go forth to the harvest fields in the hope of Jesus’ return again.
