Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see him, because he had heard many things about him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by him. (Luke 23:8 )
Lord Jesus Christ, help us rightly answer the question you asked: “But what did you go out to see?” (See Matthew 11:9) Help us come to you seeking more than Herod did: he sought some kind of magic trick to entertain him. Help us come to you because you are Lord and Christ and we desire to walk in your ways.
Then he questioned him with many words, but he answered him nothing. (Luke 23:9)
Father, please help us come to Jesus on his terms and not as Herod did: on Herod’s terms.
And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him. (Luke 23:10)
Holy Spirit, move in the hearts and minds of the leaders and teachers of the Episcopal Church to turn to Jesus.
Then Herod, with his men of war, treated him with contempt and mocked him, arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him back to Pilate. (Luke 23:11)
Jesus, we pray for all those who have mocked you, that your Holy Spirit will soften their hearts.
That very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for previously they had been at enmity with each other. (Luke 23:12)
Holy Spirit, help us examine the basis for our friendships and repent of those that are in opposition to you. Thank you.

PRAYER TABLE REPORT, (St. Mary’s of Lake Luzerne, Sat., June 25, 2011 at 11:45-noon in front of Parish Hall prior to our weekly Community Luncheon. Sunny, warm after heavy morning rainfall.)
Note: Every one of the Prayer Table sessions, no matter whether it is set up on a busy Schenectady Street or outside a Warren County mountain church, is different. Sometimes many people come for a minute or two, sometimes one person comes and stays for 10 minutes. Today was one of the latter for this table at Lake Luzerne. Deacon Alan Hart presiding at His table.)

a–EDITH — A regular visitor to the table, Edith today had a two-fold request. First, she wanted to give the Lord thanks for prayers answered: her brother ROBERT, sister GRACE and her friend (private, no name) have all had great recent medical reports in their respective battles against cancer. Then she asked for healing for her shoulder, which is giving her great pain and causing her to lose a lot of needed sleep every night.
(No one else came for prayer, but many walked by and nodded or indicated in some other way that they were glad to see the table there.)
