Matthew 16:24-27

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24)
Jesus, please help us learn to deny ourselves. We are immersed in a culture ove over-indulgence; have mercy on us and help us daily follow you, carrying our cross.

“For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 16:25)
Holy Spirit, please ehlp us daily find ourselves in Jesus.

“For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew 16:26)
Jesus, you are my security, not my house or my car or my savings. Help me to count everything rubbish that I may gain you and be found in you. (See Philippians 3:8 )

“For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will reward each according to his works.” (Matthew 16:27)
Father, help me each day to do works of faith and of righteousness. Thank you.

A word received: You are held in the palm of my hand. I will not drop you.

PRAYER TABLE REPORT, St. Mary’s of Lake Luzerne, (Sat., Aug. 27, 2011, 11:30 a.m.-noon in front of Parish Hall prior to our weekly Saturday Community Luncheon. Beautiful, sunny day. Deacon Alan Hart presiding at His table.)

t–denotes received wooden cross made by Dennis Adams of North Carolina.
a–denotes anointed with Holy Oil.

GENERAL PRAYER — At the start of the Table, I first prayed aloud that the East Coast would have lives spared and hardships limited to bare minimum as the expected hurricane Irene approached us all. I prayed especially for God to spare the people of Hadley-Lake Luzerne-Corinth, who already suffered extensive damage to their homes in April with flooding of the Hudson.

a,t — CHRIS (woman) — Asked for prayer for her good friend KEITHA, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer earlier this week. Prayed for her to be at peace and to have courage. (She does not plan on anything heroic as the disease is advanced. Her husband died of cancer recently.) Prayed for strength for Chris as well.

a– EDITH — A regular at the Table. She came for prayers of thanksgiving because her fight with arthritis has improved and she has not needed medicine as often as she did. Also gave thanks for recent good reports of health on her brother ROBERT and sister GRACE, who have both been fighting cancer.
