Matthew 7:21-29

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my father in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name, cast out demons in your name, and done many wonders in your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you who practice lawlessness!’ (Matthew 7:21-23)
Holy Spirit, please help us do your will and hearken to Jesus’ words. It is not enough to mouth good deeds; we must also walk the way of Jesus which is straight and narrow.

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. (Matthew 7:24-25)

Jesus, you are my rock and my fortress. Help me daily establish my feet on you.

“But everyone who hears these sayings of mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” (Matthew 7:26-27)
Father, much that seemed sold has proved to have been built on sand and has been swept away. Help us daily stand on Jesus — he is our rock and our refuge from the storm.

And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. (Matthew 7:28-29)
Jesus, please help us receive your teaching into our hearts and minds. Thank you.

A word received: Keep turning to me.

      Notes from the Front Line

***** Prayer table at Cathedral of All Saints, Albany, Wednesday, Sept. 28

Deacon Sue Plaske and Beth Collum, 12:00-12:30; Linda Davis and Hilda Hardy, 12:30-1:00.

We were blessed with some breaks in the rain.

Mark: prayers for Pat, sexton at St. Peter’s Episcopal, for healing of injured ribs from falling in the bell tower.

Prayers for Pam in the loss of her husband during Hurricane Irene.

Beth: prayers for a friend struggling with spiritual oppression.

Our friend Brother Ken stopped to chat and share his wisdom as he usually does. Lord, we pray for peace and a great outpouring of your Spirit on your servant Ken. Bless him and his family, especially his son who just started college at Quinnipiac University.

Paul: prayer for Chris’s family in his passing; and for Rita’s family. Her funeral is tonight.

Mike: stopped briefly. He didn’t want prayer now. (Maybe another time!)

Sue: pray for Laura, who is taking the LSAT this Saturday, for confidence, knowledge, and clear thinking; and for lifting of her spirits.

Carol, Linda’s co-worker: We prayed for Carol and her sister Pam, along with Pam’s fiance Chris.
