An update from Abp. Mouneer in Egypt

Yesterday we posted the request for prayer from Abp. Mouneer Anis re: the troubles and violence against Christians in Egypt.

Today there is an update from Bp. Mouneer posted by Jackie at Stand Firm

The cry “Ya Rab (O Lord)” of the Christians in Egypt brought to mind these verses from Psalms 12 and 13:

Ps 12:5-13:6
5 “Because of the oppression of the weak and the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will protect them from those who malign them.”
6 And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times.
7 O LORD, you will keep us safe and protect us from such people forever.
8 The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men.

Psalm 13

1 How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?
3 Look on me and answer, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death;
4 my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me.
(NIV)

O Lord, we cry out with our brothers and sisters in Egypt. O Lord, keep them safe and protect them, may Your Word be a precious treasure to them, giving them hope and joy.

O Lord may they know You have not forgotten them, that You see injustice and that the wicked will NOT always triumph. May they know that You are strong on their behalf.

O Lord, give light to the eyes of our brothers and sisters in Jesus, the light of Christ shining in their hearts (2 Cor 4:6), the light that shines in the darkness and that darkness cannot overcome (John 1:5)

O Lord, may all who know You in Egypt be strengthened to trust in Your unfailing love and to sing of Your goodness in these days of struggle. May their hope in You be a bright beacon throughout the land.
