Lord, let ____ have a discerning mind to prioritize the precious minutes in the day. Let my pastor discern what is most important and be guarded against the tyranny of the urgent (2 Corinthians 11:14, 1 John 4:1)
North India
August 27, 2008Following the murder of a Hindu leader, Swami Lakshmanananda, a wave of violence against Christians is sweeping North India.
O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands, let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear our prayers for the people of North India.
We confess the sins that the United Kingdom and the United States have committed in the development of this crisis. In colonization, we exploited the people and the resources of this land. In post-colonial times, we turned a blind eye to its poverty. We did not do unto our brothers and sisters as we would have them do unto us.
Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
Death has come upon this land. Your life always overpowers death. Your blessings always overcome curses.
We pray for the outpouring of God’s blessings of life to overcome the effects of these sins. We come together in the Name of Jesus to pray for the Light of Christ, the Blessing of the Almighty Father, and the power of the Holy Spirit to shine brightly where once darkness reigned.
In the words of Jesus (Matthew 6:14): “If you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
Therefore, today we will also choose to forgive those in the UK, the US, and Northern India who gave themselves over to the enemy and brought such despair upon this land. We will leave their sins to You and to Your judgment, but we will forgive those who committed the sins, so that our unforgiveness does not keep the effects of their sins bound to this land.
You love Your Son Jesus, have given Him Your Spirit without limit, and have placed everything in His hands. He is above all. We, Your church, beseech You now by the mercies of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, for the comfort, encouragement, and empowering of Your children in the troubled land of North India. We speak the name of Jesus over North India. He is above all. We claim the Spirit of Jesus against the spirit of murder, violence, rape, and arson; against all the demonic forces of nature and spirits of sorcery, witchcraft, and idolatry influencing this land. In Jesus, God’s Spirit is without limit. Send forth Your angels to guard and protect Your children in North India and to fight against the evil schemes of the enemy.
We pray for a cessation of violence. We pray that the murderers of the Hindu Swami and of the Christians be brought to justice.
We ask the mind of Jesus for The Most Revd Joel Vidyasagar Mal, primate of North India, and all of the Anglican leaders, in this storm. Amen.
Psalm 14:4-7
August 27, 2008Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call on the LORD? (Psalm 14:4)
Father, please protect and provide for your people who work for companies and managers that are ravenous wolves. Help your people be faithful even in such bad circumstances.
There they are in great fear, for God is with the generation of the righteous. (Psalm 14:5)
Holy Spirit, please help your people in bad work situations fear God rather than their companies or managers. Bless those who are righteous in evil circumstances.
You shame the counsel of the poor, but the LORD is his refuge. (Psalm 14:6)
Jesus, you are the refuge of the poor — bless with the counsel of your Holy Spirit those who are poor or in bad jobs.
Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD brings back the captivity of his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad. (Psalm 14:7)
LORD, let your salvation go forth and lead your people out of the captivity of bad employers. Provide for your people, LORD. Thank you.
A word received: I AM with you. Keep your eyes on me.

Our pastors
August 27, 2008Lord, I pray for discernment regarding the schemes of the enemy against my pastor _____. Show our congregation how to pray against all powers of this dark world and the spiritual forces of darkness in heavenly realms. And, Lord, protect us as we wage warfare on behalf of our pastor (Ephesians 6:11-12)
Father, I thank You that no weapons formed against my pastor will prosper. Every tongue raised aganst my shepherd will be cast down. Rumors and gossip will be turned aside. For ______ will be still before the Lord and wait on You. My pastor will dwell in the shadow of the Most High God and will be delivered from terror, darts of doubt, and diseases (Psalm 91:5-6). Set Your angels about my pastor (Psalm 91:11) and no power of the enemy shall harm ____ (Luke 10:19). Thank God forevermore!
John 6:60-66
August 26, 2008Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, “This is a hard saying; who can understand it?” When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples complained about this, he said to them, “Does this offend you? (John 6:60-61)
Jesus, so many in your church are offended by what you have said and done; help us to receive your words.
What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where he was before? (John 6:62)
Holy Spirit, help your church and your people believe the deeds that Jesus has done for us.
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. (John 6:63)
Jesus, please speak your words of spirit and life to the Episcopal Church today. It has become mired in the flesh; restore it to a life in your Spirit.
But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray him. (John 6:64)
Father, bring to faith the leaders and teachers of the Episcopal Church, for many of them betray Jesus by their lack of faith and their words and deeds.
And he said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to me unless it has been granted to him by my father.” (John 6:65)
Father, please grant this mercy for Jesus’ sake.
From that time many of his disciples went back and walked with him no more. (John 6:66)
Jesus, we weep for your disciples who have chosen to walk apart from you.

My pastors
August 26, 2008Someone gave me a set of 20 cards with prayers for pastors on them. I don’t know who wrote them. Since we are in a heirarchal church, these prayers would be applicable not only for our pastor, but also for bishop, presiding bishop, and the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Holy Spirit prompted me to use them for Rowan, whose leadership I have been disappointed in. I’ll let each of you fill in the blank on your own.

I thank You, Father that Your eyes are on my shepherd and Your ears are attentive to my pastor’s prayers and Your face is against those who plot evil against my pastor (1 Peter 3:12). For I know that in all things You work for the good of _____ who loves You (Romans 8:28). Who can accuse this pastor who is daily interceded for by Christ Jesus? (Romans 8:33-34). Therefore, in all things my pastor is more than an conqueror (Romans 8:37). Thank You, God.
Psalm 7:1-5 and Psalm 139:11-12
August 25, 2008O LORD my God, in you I put my trust; save me from all those who persecute me; and deliver me, (Psalm 7:1)
LORD, turn our hearts to you.
Lest they tear me like a lion, rending me in pieces, while there is none to deliver. (Psalm 7:2)
Father, we cry out to you for your church; we are troubled by the direction of the Episcopal Church and ask you to give us your strength.
O LORD my God, if I have done this: if there is iniquity in my hands, (Psalm 7:3)
Holy Spirit, help us recognize and repent of our iniquity.
If I have repaid evil to him who was at peace with me, or have plundered my enemy without cause, (Psalm 7:4)
Jesus, your church is being plundered by law suits, have mercy on us.
Let the enemy pursue me and overtake me; yes, let him trample my life to the earth, and lay my honor in the dust. (Psalm 7:5)
LORD, in your mercy protect us; guide Bishop Bill and the leaders of this diocese in this difficult time.
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” even the night shall be light about me; indeed, the darkness shall not hide from you, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to you. (Psalm 139:11-12)
Lord Jesus, there is no darkness dark enough to hide us from your light; help us to walk by your light today.

Billy Graham’s prayer for our nation
August 25, 2008The Democratic National Convention is this week, and the Republican next week.
Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness
and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says,
‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have
done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen!

Reflecting God’s nature
August 24, 2008God created human beings; he created them godlike, reflecting God’s nature. Genesis 1:27 The Message
Never again will anything be cursed. The Throne of God and of the Lamb is at the center. His servants will offer God service—worshiping, they’ll look on his face, their foreheads mirroring God. Revelation 22:3-4 The Message
O Father,
In heaven, there is a pure river of the Water of Life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. Canterbury is located on the River Stour. In Roman and medieval times, the river was used as a highway to the continent.
Remove the curse of sin over the Anglican Communion. We want to worship and look on Your face. Help us to reflect Your nature.
We pray for an anointing of Your Spirit over Canterbury. We pray that through the Anglican Communion will flow a river of the Water of Life. We pray that the Anglican Communion will be filled with Your Spirit and the Spirit and the bride together will say,
Come. Let him who is thirsty, come. All who will, come and drink freely of the Water of Life.
Amen.
Draw out
August 24, 2008Jehovah Sabaoth,
You are a strong God and a mighty God. When the children of Israel were in bondage to the Egyptians, and their lives bitter in slavery, You drew Moses out of the waters. When David was hunted by Saul and overhelmed by despair, You drew him out of many waters.
The Anglican Communion is overcome by many heresies, dear Lord. We cry out for the deliverance of Your people. Draw Your prophets out of the waters, we pray. Amen.
