A Reminder: Anglican Covenant Design Group is meeting

January 16, 2007

All, just a reminder that the Anglican Covenant Design Group is meeting in the Bahamas this week.
Please uphold this work in MUCH prayer.

In meditating on the Epistle readings this week from Ephesians (both in the 1979 and 1928 lectionaries), I’m reminded of the following collect (of unknown original origin) which was included in the 40 Days of Discernment materials being used by many ECUSA congregations. It seems a good prayer for the Anglican Covenant Design Group and the Anglican Communion in these days.

Most Holy Father, may our knowledge of you shine ever more clearly within us, that we may perceive the breadth of your blessings, the extent of your promises, the height of your majesty, and the depth of your judgment. May your kingdom rule in us now, through grace, and bring us at last to your kingdom of light where we shall see you as you are. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Primates Prayer Day 9, January 16, 2007

January 16, 2007

Prayer Focus Today: The Most Rev. Mauricio de Andrade, Primate of Brazil.

Psalm 23 and Ephesians 5:1-14, KJV (Morning Prayer, 1928 BCP)

1Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
3But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
9(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
10Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
11And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
13But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
14Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

Mauricio de Andrade, Primate of BrazilLord Jesus, the Good Shepherd, let Mauricio hear your voice and be your own. Lead him in paths of righteousness for your Name’s sake. Waken and anoint him; let no vain words deceive him. Make him holy and fruitful in you, that his leadership may have your approval. Help him to reprove the works of darkness and lead people to your light, your living water, your abundant feast. We pray this in your Name. Amen.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR THE ANGLICAN COVENANT DESIGN GROUP, MEETING THIS WEEK.
