But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.” Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord–Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here–has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, he regained his strength. Acts 9:15-19a, NIV
Open the eyes of our bishops, Lord. Open their hearts. Send your Holy Spirit to their meeting in Salt Lake City and convict them about sin and righteousness and judgment. We do not ask for justice, Father. We ask for mercy. Have mercy on these bishops. Take the scales from their eyes and let them see the truth. Set them free. Bless them, Lord, just as you have blessed us. Bring them to saving faith. Kindle in their hearts a bright burning fire for Lord Jesus Christ. Reveal the glory of your kingdom to them so that they may see how inconsequential their man-made plans really are. Turn their desires from amassing goods and property on earth toward storing up treasure in heaven. Have mercy on them, Father. And please also have mercy on us who offer this prayer, for we, too, are craven sinners in dire need of forgiveness.
Though our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
