Ezra 8:21-23 and Romans 8:28

November 7, 2008

Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions. (Ezra 8:21)
Holy Spirit, bring your people in the Episcopal Church to a season of fasting and prayer so that we will know how to go forward. Help us humble ourselves before our God and Father so that he will show us the right way forward.

For I was ashamed to request of the king an escort of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the road, because we had spoken to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek him, but his power and his wrath are against all those who forsake him.” (Ezra 8:22)
Jesus, please move in our hearts as you did with Ezra to seek our Father’s help rather than the help of the government. As with Ezra, help us trust in you with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding; in all our ways help us acknowledge you so that you may direct our paths. (From Provers 3:5-6)

So we fasted and entreated our God for this, and he answered our prayer. (Ezra 8:23)
Father, we trust that you will accomplish your will on earth and in the Episcopal Church as you do in heaven.

We know that all things work together for good to those who love God (Romans 8:28 )
LORD, write this on our hearts. Thank you.

A word received: Pray for my people. Pray they will return to me. Pray for new life for my people. Pray that they will enter into the life of my Spirit.
