Malachi 1:6-8 and Words Received for a Sunday School lesson

November 19, 2008

“A son honors his father,” (Malachi 1:6a)
Father, help us to honor you.

“And a servant his master.” (Malachi 1:6b)
Jesus, you are our master; help us honor you.

“If then I am the Father, where is my honor?” (Malachi 1:6)c
Holy Spirit, help the Episcopal Church once again bring honor to our father in heaven.

“And if I am a Master, where is my reverence?” (Malachi 1:6d)
Holy Spirit, help us show you reverence.

“Says the LORD of hosts to you priests who despise my name.” (Malachi 1:6e)
LORD, bring the priests of the Episcopal Church to repentance wherever they despise your name.

“Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised your name?'” (Malachi 1:6f)
Father, help us recognize where we have sinned against the name of Jesus.

“You offer defiled food on my altar, but say, ‘In what way have we defiled you?’ By saying, ‘The table of the LORD is contemptible.'” (Malachi 1:7)
Lord Jesus, whenever we come to your table without true repentance, we show contempt for your table; have mercy on us and bring us to repentance.

“And when you offer the blind as a sacrifice, is it not evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? Offer it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you favorably?” says the LORD of hosts. (Malachi 1:8 )
Holy Spirit, move our hearts to offer the best and the first fruits of our labor to our God and Father. Thank you.

A word received: Wake up, wake up, my people. Rejoice with me.

Words Received for a Sunday School Lesson in December

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,” (Philippians 2:5) A word received: This is what I want for you as beloved children: that you learn to think like Jesus.

“who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, (Philippians 2:6)” A word received: I made a choice out of obedience and love for my father. I want you to submit your lives out of obedience and love as well.

“but made himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. (Philippians 2:7)” A word received: I laid aside my glory so that I might bring many sons to glory.

“And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” (Philippians 2:8 ) A word received: My love for my father enabled me to go the whole distance to the cross. I want you to know and experience that same love.

“Therefore God also has highly exalted him and given him the name which is above every name,” (Philippians 2:9) A word received: I want you to know the power of my name in your lives.

“that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,” (Philippians 2:10) A word received: There is no place where my name is without power to open what is closed.

“and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:11) A word received: When you confess my Lordship in your life you bring glory to my father in heaven.
