Fr. Nigel Update 9:14 AM

Friday 12/4/09
Fr. Nigel Mumford continues to improve, bit by bit. Yesterday was an orientation day for him in his new surroundings, so he was meeting new doctors, nurses and staff. He continues to receive some help with oxygen as his lungs are not able to manage on their own just yet. He said that his brief time on his feet attempting to walk is much like Tim Conway on the 70s television show “Laugh In” – he shuffles along with his walker. Although he would like to be gaining more strength and time on his feet, his dizziness and nausea are continuing to plague him. The doctors are trying to discover what is causing this.

Fr. Nigel is in wonderful spirits and his sense of humor is ever evident. If you know Fr. Nigel, you will know that he is keen on humor in the healing process. He is anxious to build up his strength so that he can be home by Christmas, which would be a wonderful gift.

Please pray for:
Immediate healing of the bedsore that is still causing him great discomfort
Healing of whatever is causing the dizziness and nausea
Complete healing and restoration of his lungs
Regaining strength and use of his muscles
      Peace and stamina for Lynn

Please give Praise and Thanksgiving to our God who has answered our prayers.
Because Fr. Nigel is still susceptible to infection, there is still a No Visitor policy. Fr. Nigel knows how many people are praying for him and he knows how God has listened to your prayers. If he were able, Fr. Nigel would thank each of you personally for your prayers for him and for others. May God bless you for your faithfulness in prayer and your faithfulness to Him.

The Manhattan Declaration

December 4, 2009

The Manhattan Declaration organization is composed of Orthodox, Catholic, and evangelical Christians who have united at this hour to reaffirm fundamental truths about justice and the common good:
1.the sanctity of human life
2.the dignity of marriage as the conjugal union of husband and wife
3.the rights of conscience and religious liberty.
I signed the Declaration and encourage others to do so. Over 250,000 have already signed it. In our enthusiasm, let us not forget to follow our Lord’s injunction and bless our political opponents.

O Lord,
If only we could love as You! Your love is steadfast; ours is mercurial. Your love overflows with tender mercies; ours is riddled with unforgiveness. Holy is Your name. Holy, holy, holy is the Lord!
We ask You to love the leaders of our nation, including our political opponents. Love them, especially President Barak Obama. Love their families, and their staffs. You know their needs. Bless them, Lord, in Your infinite wisdom. Bless them in Your judgment. Bless them in Your mercy. Amen.

During our 40 Days for Life campaign, commenter Sibyl said this prayer for our political opponents:

Holy Father,
I pray You will, by the power of the Holy Spirit, impart revelation, direct, unforgetable, undeniable.
Reveal your will to those persons you wish to use for your purposes.
Speak Your truth, love, life into their hearts and minds through dreams as you spoke to Nebuchadnezzar, to Daniel, to Joseph son of Jacob, to Joseph of Nazareth and others throughout Scripture.
Stir, convict, convince, warn those who will hear, believe and act. Grant Godly sorrow unto repentance.
Guide Your intercessors in the way that they should pray.
In the Name of Jesus, Amen

And commenter GA/FL wrote this prayer for our political opponents:
Father,
Please make the light of Your face and countenance to shine upon all this nation, the candidates and the voters. Let Your light work to expose evil and to reveal truth…to convict of sin, to convince of Your goodness, truth and love, to restore and guide and turn all who will humble themselves and agree with Your word, to be able to dwell in Your blessed protection and peace that the world cannot take away. In Jesus Holy Name, Amen

Father Nigel Mumford

I’ve been looking for scriptures particular for the healing of bedsores, without much success. One would assume that Ezekiel got bedsores when lying on his left side 390 days and his right 40 days. The paralytic lowered through the hole in the roof might have had bedsores as well. However, the bedsores are never mentioned. If anyone can think of pertinent scriptures, leave them in the comments please. Thanks, JW

O Heavenly Father,
You can do all things. Your ways are too wonderful for us to know and understand. No plan of Yours can be thwarted. Our eyes have seen and our ears have heard of Your mercy in bringing about Nigel’s recovery.
Just as Job suffered sores in his flesh, and You healed him, we ask for Your healing of Nigel. Just as You blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the first, we ask for an increase of blessings on the latter part of Nigel’s life. Bless his family, especially Lynn and Megan. Bless his finances. Bless his ministry. Amen.

Jude 1-8

December 4, 2009

Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ: (Jude 1)
Holy Father, bring us to holiness.

Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. (Jude 2)
Holy Spirit, please help all of us in this diocese know the mercy, peace, and love that is there for us in Jesus.

Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. (Jude 3)
Jesus, please help all of us in this diocese contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to us by your holy apostles and witnesses.

For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ. (Jude 4)
Jesus, such men and women have crept in among us and seek to lead the faithful astray; have mercy on us and as you shut the mouths of the lions for Daniel, we ask you to shut the mouths of these false witnesses so that your people will be protected from harm.

But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. (Jude 5)
Lord, rescue these men and women and grant them the gifts of faith and belief so that they do not perish.

And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, he has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; (Jude 6)
Holy Spirit, help all of us see in the punishment of these angels a warning for us. Help all those who have strayed outside the proper domain of marriage between a man and a woman come to repentance.

as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. (Jude 7)
Blessed Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them; that, by patience and comfort of your holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (BCP)

Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries. (Jude 8 )
Lord, even now awaken these dreamers to your righteousness.

Jerusalem

December 4, 2009

O Lord God of Israel,
We join our voices with the watchmen on the walls of Jersalem and ask that Jerusalem be made a praise in the earth. Return with mercy, Lord. Take possession of Judah as Your inheritance. Send Your Spirit of Truth upon Jerusalem so that a surveyor’s line stretched out over it will show it to be in alignment with Your truth. Jerusalem shall be called the City of Truth, and the Mountain of the Lord of hosts, The Holy Mountain! Amen. Amen. Amen.
Isaiah 62:6-7, Zechariah 1:16, 2:12, 8:3
