South Carolina legal letters

February 11, 2010

TEC has hired an attorney in South Carolina, who has sent a series of letters to Bishop Lawrence. The letters have been published. Providentially, Psalm 85 is the lectionary reading. I’d like to focus attention on the last verse:

My tongue will speak of your righteousness and of your praises all day long.

Father, so stir the hearts of Your children in the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina that their hearts will overflow with praise. May the atmosphere so reverberate with Your holy name that Your throne will span the entire diocese. Abide there, dear Lord. Amen.
Psalm 22:3

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed.” (John 8:31)
Jesus, please help us abide in your word — make us all true disciples of yours.

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32)
Holy Spirit, please bring us to that freedom which comes from knowing Jesus.

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. (Romans 12:9)
Jesus, help us daily choose you and your ways.

Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; (Romans 12:10)
Father, help us daily show forth your love to one another; help us take Jesus as our model. Thank you.

not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; (Romans 12:11)
Holy Spirit, renew us; help us renew our commitment to follow Jesus.

rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; (Romans 12:12)
Jesus, please help us daily join you in interceding for those around us.

distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. (Romans 12:13)
Father, please help us honor you by giving of ourselves, our money, and our resources for the advancement of your kingdom. Thank you.
