Elections April 11-13. Prayers updated almost every day.
Five years ago, the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed. It was meant to end the Second Sudanese Civil War, develop democratic governance countrywide and share oil revenues. It further set a timetable by which Southern Sudan would have a referendum on its independence. The agreement has been violated and elections delayed. However, on April 11-13, Sudan will have presidential and parliamentary elections.
Today marks the beginning of a 40-day period through the elections. I have posted a set of new prayers and some old ones for your use. Later on, more will follow.
The problems in Sudan seem intractable. It is easy to let hopelessness grip our minds, but we are called to set our minds on things above, not earthly things. Our beliefs are anchored in the unseen realm. (Colossians 3:2-3) The world sees persecuted civilians and ragtag soldiers to defend them, and that is so. In the unseen realm, they are the meek and the poor in spirit. We see heirs of the earth. (Matthew 5)
Sudan is God’s field, and we are co-laborers with Christ in that field. (1 Corinthians 3:9) Let us labor in faith, conviction, confidence, and hope. (Hebrews 11:1) –JW
