Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.” (John 20:19)
Jesus, your people are so often fearful that they are going to offend someone with the gospel that they remain silent and behind closed doors when they should speak. Please give us boldness by your Holy Spirit to go forth and tell the good news of your resurrection and victory over sin and death.
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. (John 20:20)
Father, help us see the cost of our salvation once again; help us receive your love for us.
So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent me, I also send you.” (John 20:21)
Jesus, help us receive your peace and go forth at your bidding.
And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. (John 20:22)
“I send the Promise of my Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49) A word received: I was asking my people to turn their attention to me and wait for the move of my Spirit. Turn to me for what only I can do.
Jesus, help us receive the power of your Holy Spirit to do your bidding.
If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” (John 20:23)
Holy Spirit, please help us minister reconciliation and forgiveness of sins. Help us restore people to a right relationship with Jesus. Thank you.
