John 16:12-15 and Psalm 40:1-2

April 16, 2010

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.” (John 16:12)
Jesus, thank you for your kindness to us: you give us only what we can handle each day. Please give us ears to hear what you are saying and hearts to respond to your words. Thank you.

“However, when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak; and he will tell you things to come.” (John 16:13)
Holy Spirit, please lead us into the truth of the gospel each day. Come upon us today and revive us — fill us anew and guide us. Thank you for what you will be doing in the revival service at St. Michael’s Colonie this evening.

“He will glorify me, for he will take of what is mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:14)
Father, please help us hearken to the words that your Holy Spirit is speaking — help us receive them into our hearts and minds. Thank you.

“All things that the Father has are mine. Therefore I said that he will take of mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:15)
Holy Trinity, one God, please help us enter your life of love and sharing with one another. Thank you

I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined to me, and heard my cry. (Psalm 40:1)
Lord, hear our cry to you for the move of your Spirit among us; give us patient endurance to wait for that move of your Spirit and not cease crying out to you.

He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. (Psalm 40:2)
Holy Spirit, pull us out of the miry clay of discouragement and being content with things as they are in the church — set our feet on Jesus our Rock and help us proclaim his saving work to all the nations.
