Ethel Tulloch Banks

April 6, 2011

This prayer was written by Ethel Tulloch Banks, cofounder of The International Order of St. Luke the Physician with her husband, Rev. Dr. John Gaynor Banks. (Reference: Sharing magazine, March/April 2011)

O loving, healing, helping Father, we come to you through faith in the promises of your dear son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. Show yourself to us more and more in your nearness, love, and power, that in that knowledge, we may find rest, peace, strength, and love. Help us to rise above the pain and weariness and anxiety and to behold your face, that truly seeing you as you are, our hearts may open in such loving trust that you may do for us all that you would do. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Saudi Arabia

April 6, 2011

Current state of affairs is quiet.

Triune God,
You are sovereign over all of creation, a great and mighty God. By this prayer, we bring the nation of Saudi Arabia into Your presence. We trust that no prayer to You is wasted, even though we do not know what will happen as a consequence of our prayers. May the creative power of the Father, the life-giving power of the Spirit, and the healing power of the Son meet this nation at its point of need. Amen.

Inspiration for this prayer came from a prayer written by Canon Roy Lawrence, an Anglican priest with a healing ministry. (Reference: Sharing magazine, March/April 2011)

Joshua 1:5-9

April 6, 2011

“No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.” (Joshua 1:5)
Jesus, be with Bishop Bill as you were with Moses and Joshua. Write it on his heart that you will never leave him nor forsake him. Thank you.

“Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.” (Joshua 1:6)
Holy Spirit, please fill Bishop Bill, Bishop David, and Bishop Dan up with your courage so that they may rightly establish the parishes of this diocese.

“Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:7)
Father, show our bishops, priests, deacons, and lay leaders how to rightly apply your commandments and ordinances. Keep them on the straight and narrow path so that they turn neither to the right nor to the left. Thank you.

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Joshua 1:8 )
Holy Father, fill the heats and minds and mouths of the leaders and teachers of this diocese with your word and your Spirit. Let your word, your living word, be in their hearts and thoughts and mouths day and night.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
Holy Spirit, thank you for helping us know the presence of Jesus in our lives. Give all of us courage to go forth in the power and truth of the gospel. Thank you.

Praying the Nicene Creed, a word received 12/29/07: Each day I want you to take a phrase from the Nicene Creed and pray that phrase. My people need to hear what is true and make it their own.
I believe in one God,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, thank you for being one and thank you for your love for one another. Please help me, help your people live in the reality of your unity and love. Thank you.
the Father Almighty,
Father, thank you for being a father to me. Thank you that by your might you have made your son Jesus known to us so that we can become your children.
maker of heaven and earth,
Thank you, Father, for your creation. Please help us by your Holy Spirit to be better stewards of your creation.
and of all things visible and invisible;
Father, we know that we are surrounded by your angelic hosts and that whole company of heaven, that cloud of witnesses that has gone before us. Help us to be steady in you till we reach that place of rest. Thank you.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
Father, guide us by your Holy Spirit so that every other “lord” in our lives is brought under the sovereign rule of Jesus and he becomes our one Lord. Thank you.
